Just to present a different point of view, I have that same tankbag (wolfman enduro) and I will only use it on a long dual sport trip. It gets in my way on any more aggressive ride.
I make sure mine is as far forward as it can be without it sitting on the tank cap. I like to go fast so I use a lot of seat moving, it sits far enough forward for me to not be in the way.
Close, about 20km north of there so good guess. The trail is known locally as the steps just near mt sugarloaf west of Newcastle. Its not what youd call an alpine peak but the trail takes you from near sea level straight up part of the mountain to about 300m.
Ok have ridden sugarloaf a number of times, park in the downhill car park under the towers aslo linked into the Wattos from there. I have a bunch of mates 50 50 Sydney Newcastle and we call ourselves SECT being senior east coast trail riders. We ride mostly the Watts and Clarence (zig zag) although we do a few things like Kowen, Sunny Corner, Cessnock and down to Bright in the Vic high country. Most of us also road ride and DS as well.
Id love to do some riding down that way. Sugarlaof is a great place to ride, but it gets absolutely shafted by 4*4s after rain and development is eating away at its eastern border.
I am riding Clarence next weekend with some mates (Saturday) on some old semi covered single track grade 2,3 and 4 with a mongrel 5 hill. Happy to take a punt on you being halfway human if you want to come along. We are mostly in our 50's and 60's, ok for age but might be a nuisance if you are a gun. We meet at the main Zig Zag railway station. My Jeep is getting repaired again so look for a new dark Grey Outback. Ready to ride at 8:30 am. GHTE is AKA Glenn.
so I bought 2 packs, both moose racing. one for front fender and one for the rear to offload my backpack. so far me like it..i did not feel that extra weight on the bike and i was less tired after the ride
Just picked up this bag and rode with it last weekend. I have to say that on the really technical single-track I kept bumping into it but it wasn't a deal-breaker; you just have to get used to it. If I knew the whole ride was going to be that kind of trail I probably wouldn't use it, but for all the other rides it'll be great! (especially for someone with some back issues-like me)
Fair enough, where was it hitting? Legs/waist?. Im skinny and it has never bothered me, only ever hit it when my feet fell off the pegs and my torso fell onto it. When we do a bit of moto x style riding in a quarry I could see it getting in the way if you need to move your weight right forward. Make sure you mount it as far forward as you can.
It wouldhit me in the waist when I really moved forward in some turns. If I didn't have to worry about the tank venting I'd mount it over the gas cap and that would solve the problem competely.
So I got few rides now on moose front and rear fender packs. Happy to report that they both stayed on just fine through rocky hell of PA and whoops in NJ. I bolted rear fender pack and cut notches in front fender to make sure front one stays on. My only gripe is that they are not waterproof. Other than that...they work fine, and lighten my backpack load.
Got to chuckle at this thread. You know, in the UK, some say "fanny" means something else, as in a lady's crotchal region. So they call the pack by a different name. Just thought I'd be a dork and mention that. Dancing banana? Really?
