Thanks man. It's really hard to decide on tires. Everyone I know rides with different tires. So I rarely get non-bias advice.
no I ran the E1 size tires because the 310 is "really" a 250 120/90-18 pirelli scorpion pro fim always with mousses
Here's my report... Slick marbles on clay, check. Brown clay, yep. A road that was just exposed to the Gorman Ridge Rally yesterday and swept clean and torn up, sure. Hard whoops at moderate speed, felt great. Sand over hard pack whoops at a little faster speed, no sweat. Deep sand, what deep sand? I could drive in to turns with decreasing fear of front washout with each minute. Big nasty rocks on single track felt like nothin. In fact I had to turn around at one point because the 606 I run out back was just bucking, sliding and digging holes after the front skipped off rocks the size softballs with ease. Then I hit a fast single track mixed sandy, then clay, then dirt, and back to clay, loose stuff on hardpack. This is a favorite trail because it's a marked one way only trail, so I can hang it out a little more with little fear of a head on. I hit a pace that had me going way faster than normal just grabbing a handful of front brake and diving into turns that used to make me calculate a little more. It's got what I used to consider fun small jumps that turned into launch pads that made me bottom out more than once, and I've lost easily 15lbs since my last sortie. After I flogged it for about 25 miles, I turned it over to my honey and she put another 15 on. She was having such a good time, even a head on with a Dick head on a quad that broke both hand guards and resulted in knobby marks on my muffler a broken visor on her helmet, and a bruised knee didn't stop her from having a great time. I asked her if she noticed the tire after I cooled off from wanting to hunt the jerk down (he didn't even bother to ask if she was ok) and she said, "Oh Yeah! I totally rode another 10 miles after that because it felt so good." Well worth the price and 35+ miles of thoroughly mixed terrain didn't even take all the fuzz off the knobs.
We run 110's on most of our tour bikes, easier to turn. 120 on the modded bikes like Ty's factory bike.
I noticed this some too. Front hooking up so well it made the back feel bad. Like unbalanced suspension. I am running an inferior but long lasting K270 Kenda which works for me and my long lasting needs but is not the ultimate traction tire.
I just mounted two; TE310 and 650 Terra. Taking the 310 out on Wednesday for some sand and rocky trails. The Terra will be on a multi thousand mile ride in two weeks. No idea what to expect on that one but we will find out!
This tire is very interesting. from super fast pro speed dez racing on a big 4 stroke racer to super fast pro* speed PNW woods riding on a 250 2 stroke racer........all that is about as far apart in types as possible. * Ok not quite that fast buuut at a good expert ammie level pace.
Got mine today and mounted. Will be a week or so before it sees the dirt. May get a new rear before then too. Does have a rotation arrow. Measured about 4" wide compared to 3.5" on the stocker.
Three hours on the trail today with my new front on the 310. Barely noticed the sand and mud and in fact after the first sand trap I pretty much just ignored the next ones. The tire is just 1/2 inch or so wider than a 90/90 bit what a difference! Money well spent, especially after watching the KTM 500EXC in front wiggling around while I tracked straight thru everything.
You guys better hurry Because I was there today got my tires and when I left there were only a few left Now for testing
If you decide it's not worth it, I'm sure you could find a buyer for it around here... I'm getting my old IT 200 back in action and I'd love a gently used new front tire for it!
Well I finally got my Golden Fat Tires mounted up. I purchase a few new michlien 90/100/21 moouses Ty told me to cut yes cut my new mousse and add 6 more inches to the tire. Boy that hurt to cut 2 new mousses. Anyway stuffed the new mousse in with a lot of Enforce Tire soap and the new 6 inch piece in the tire. Got it all mounted up and went for a test now remember where I live it is summer and it is still hot. Got out to my test area at 5.30am and started to ride as the sun came up it was already 90. My 30 mile loop has a little of everything and a lot of King Of The Moto stuff rocks and ruts. The tire works great in all areas. That tire along with the 48mm forks Ty just did on my Wr 250 made it a easy ride. This old Wr 250 is my test bike but today if felt like my Zip Ty Racing Cr 300 Race Bike. Between the tire and the suspention I could hit anything roll over rocks and glide over the sand. I was having a great time and did not want to stop but knew I had to as it was getting hot. loaded up at 9.30 and as I got back to town the temp at the bank said 112 Mounted up another tire on the CR 300 this time adding only 5 inches and got the bike ready for next weekend. Round 9 of the Nationals in Reno Nevada. That area has a lot of rocks and I believe the speeds will be slower so a little softer tire might help. Bottom line this tire worked every where I pointed it cant wait to race it next weekend. Stay Tuned for a update
Just did another 184 miles in technical mountain riding. Silt, rocks, loam, everything. Tire is awesome. Found it likes more pressure than i usually run. Like 13-14 where I usually run 11-12. Feels bullet proof, has virtually no wear, hooks up on everything, saved my ass on a few sandy/silty ass pucker sidehills. Great on river crossings too. Love that tire. I think it is my all time favorite front tire. here is some of what we rode... http://www.cafehusky.com/threads/that-did-not-suck-184-miles-with-3-good-friends.45246/
So far on this trip 1047 miles and the base of the tits just wore off yesterday. Lots of pavement mixed with gravel and dirt. I'm really amazed how the tire is lasting for real dual sport use. My buddy started with a new 606 so we can easily compare the wear.
