Ahhh, that's right. The one you guys ran had a big wide center knob. Looks sorta close at first glance. I'll try one for ya , my 606 is getting close to toast with just about 1000 miles on it.
Is Zip-Ty going to sell the Golden Tyre bibs? Trail Rider Magazine Editor, Kevin Novello used them racing Romanics and gave them a big thumbs up... His right up on tire and bib mousse... While in Romania I had an opportunity to try the Goldentyre GT216 90/90-21 front tire, GT216X 140-80/18 rear tire, and Goldentyre 120x bib mousse. The terrain we tested them in varied from dry, rocky cart roads, slick greasy trails, rock and root laced single track, and of course several steep hills that varied from loose gravel to rocks and roots. It was a great environment for testing these tires. The GT216X 140-80/18 rear tire has a softer compound designed to handle extreme enduro conditions. It worked well in technical terrain but struggled in the slick soils. I then tried the GT216HB 140-80/18 model, which is the enduro model and features a firmer compound. I liked this compound better as it handled a wider variety of terrain effectively. The front tire is comparable to the Bridgestone M59, which is high praise. However, the real winner here was the Goldentyre Mousse X. The 1Mousse X is a special mousse for extreme enduro and is softer than anything I’ve tried. The mousses I’ve tried have left me frustrated and re-installing my tubes. Mousses are notorious for deflecting off of rocks and drastically altering the characteristics of your perfectly tuned suspension. That wasn’t the case with the Goldentyre Mouse X. The rear tire felt like it had between 8-10 PSI while front felt like it had around 11 PSI. They are very, very impressive and I will pick up set when they become available here in the U.S. As of the writing of this, there are several Goldentyre dealers in the U.S. but inventory is low to nonexistent. Keep an eye out for these: they are worth it, particularly the mousses.
Yes, we have them, but they sent us the smaller ones by accident so we have to cut them and add more material. The Bridgestone mousse is also a great alternative.
Placed an order last night for the GT216 90/90-21 and a GT257. Can't wait to get back on the trail with these tires!
Got to try these out yesterday. The trails were wet, and mountain runoff from the "storm of the century" was making little streams of the trails in some spots. First off, the 90/90-21 GT216 was absolutely brilliant! The most confidence inspiring tire I've ever used. I was riding the sloppy trails faster than ever. The GT257 does indeed have a trials tire feel. It hooks up well -- very well -- on wet rocks and roots. No problem there. Even in slick norcal red clay mud, it seems to be able to paddle it's way through, so even on the two stroke I was able to make forward progress in the puddles and generally wet conditions. Corners just like a trials tire with predictable, yet progressive, break away. Only problem was braking traction. It wasn't bad, just wasn't as good as I expected. It's the kind of thing you'll get used to after a ride or two. Overall it's a great tire. No mud packing at all. Did pretty well on high speed wet fire roads (high speed for me is maybe 20 - 40 mph). A little vague at speed in the corners on the fire roads. I'm probably going to keep the GT216 on the front year-round. When the Motoz Mountain Hybrid becomes available, however, I will probably put one on the rear to compare to the GT257. I suspect the GT257 will remain a winter (norcal winter is when we get the most rain with the occasional light snow to mix things up) tire for me, and the Motoz Mountain will be a good summer/fall (norcal fall is when we have the most dust on the trails with the occasional light shower to mix things up) tire. BTW, I like the way zipty ships their tires: I'm so used to getting them bare or with a little plastic wrap on them -- no protection at all. Here's the two tires side-by-side:
Nice!!! Did 62 miles of NW sloppy gnar yesterday and had crazy confidence in my 216, excellent tire on most everything. Running a 803 trials rear and that works great too but I can't make them last and this one is not looking good at 350 miles. Cracking everywhere across the rows of knobs. Love the traction, don't trust the tire. Crap. That rear is cool. Wonder how long it will last.
Does a Moto Z, like a Terrapactor ST compare to either of the GT fronts grip? When is the Moto Z Hybrid supposed to be available? Someone(vendor) on ADV Rider was taking pre-orders.
The Terrapactor ST is my second favorite tire right after the 216. Both very good. The 216 seems slightly more versatile and I think will last a good bit longer.
