Thanks for taking a stab at it. I know it was talked about in another thread, glad to see you got it and good luck!
Hey thanks for the invite! I would need to make it over the pass, so will watch road conditions. Sounds like it could be a cold time!
it can be I suppose (I've only been once) but it's pretty dry regardless of the weather. but the riding is good and the people are even better.
Any news from Dean (Coffee)? Looks like the Atlas fire is a little SW of his place (or where he used to live anyway). I haven't talked to him in a good while. Hope things are OK
I haven't heard anything from Dean in years. I know an administrator (that isn't active on the board anymore)pretty well, so I made an appeal to them directly.
FYI We (300KatoBrian and I) ran into your new moderator out on the trail the other day on her Varese Red Husky 125, just to let you all know DD still gets out and rides.
As of earlier today, it was right across the street. It doesn’t look good for his property. This is atlas peak where that fire started. This was less than 12hrs from when it started Sunday night. Since then, the fire has switched directions, and the entire hillside in this picture has burned.
These wild fires you have are just horrendous and so harsh on so many good folks. What with hurricanes on the East Coast and Fires on the West Coast the weather goods are extracting a huge toll. One brave lady on TV had lost her house in the Napa and looked the camerman in the eye and said it was not a loss but an opportunity. What a fantastic attitude, makes one feel proud of man kind and somewhat humble with your own likely attitude to such awful events.
It’s been pretty crazy. My house has been threatened a few times, but fortunately winds have changed each time. I’ve been working 18 hour shifts. I work for the water department in Saint Helena, which is 15 miles north of napa, and we’ve had power intermittently so we’ve been maintaining generators and water pumps for the fire department in case it makes it here. We’re surounded on 3 sides by the fires. The one that has destroyed large parts of Santa Rosa has backtracked to Calistoga and now Calistoga is completely evacuated. This fire has slowly been creeping towards Saint Helena.
I have a friend at work who just bought a house in that area a few months back. Luckily she still has a home, but they had evac orders last week. It's sketchy at best up there. Thank goodness for our dedicated fire professionals.
No, it seems "threadish" . Thanks DD, things are going good. In fact it seems like we have a couple of new mods. nice. Maybe we could convince Chod to think about moderating again, now that there are more folks to share the heavy lifting.
'68- hope things go well... finger x'd. I can't believe that fire is heading back east (my buddy just sold his home off of Coffey Ln & his condo in Wikiup two years ago. he is very grateful to be in Nevada. His brother sold his house on 121 just a couple of months ago- but the map shows the fire just missed... maybe. Waters Rd. He's happy to be in Arizona. hmmmm, now I'm beginning to see a pattern. Maybe I should get out of California). let us know about if you find anything out about Dean too. (of course if all of CH's servers are in coffee's house- we'll know if things turn worse) We'll keep all of you Napa Co. CH'ers in our thoughts- Sonoma Co too (hell, looks the valley of moon is taking a hit now). In fact, if you guys get a chance, check in here and give us the good news. take care.
Didn't mean to hijack the thread..... but I would think a discussion of the whereabouts of the missing owner would be relevant. I doubt the server(s) are at his house, when I was there he had some sort of long range wireless link setup since he didn't have an internet connection up there. I don't think that setup would support the Site's traffic.
There have been threads started about this before. No conclusions were reached in those threads either.
I apologize..... I actually did a search on "Coffee" and "Dean" before I ever made a post here.... this was the only thread that anyone had responded to in months. Sorry to bother everyone. Have a great Friday the 13th!!!
