Are the mirrors adjustable for rear vision and how are they at speed with vibration? How would you compare the mirrors to the stock 630 mirrors in terms of rear visibility? Did you go with the standard or ulitmate (heavyduty) guards? Any recommendations for drilling and tapping the bars to ease the process? How much weight are you adding with the complete kit to the bars? Thanks,
They are fully adjustable. They do vibrate some. I don't think it's any more than any other motorcycle mirror I've had. Don't expect to be picking out the eye color of the driver behind you. Quite a bit better. The mirror glass is more outboard than the stock mirrors. The glass is also convex, giving you a wider field of view. Standard. Just take your time and make sure the tap goes in straight. I tapped mine while the bars were mounted on the bike and didn't have any problems keeping it straight as mentioned above. Be liberal with the WD-40 while you're tapping. I have no idea. You're welcome.
They adjust somewhat, but not as much as a conventional mirror. Nice thing, keeps the law off your backside and they tuck away nicely. Some one else asked could they be used on other guards? I don't see why not, they are mounted via a single hole in the guard, but the guard has recesses built in (little poclkets) for them to nest in when not in use.
Yes, there is some limit to how far you can adjust them. But they're adjustable enough that I can see just about anywhere I care to see, really. There is also a pocket drilled into the handguard itself that the base of the mirror rests in, which keeps the mirror where you put it. I don't know how well that would work on a standard handguard. There's just not enough metal there to do that. They also do not offer just the mirrors on their website. You might be able to call and get them.
will be interesting to see if it will interfere with your reception which is what Trailtech told me a mount like that would do. They should have the antenna done soon.
Speaking of the prototype HDB Voyager Protector, Paul sent one out to me to try out as well. He hasn't started production yet as it sounds like he's still awaiting feedback from these samples. My Voyager couldn't lock up more than 1 satellite but did get enough signal to update the current time. Not enough to get position, altitude and all that 3 dimensional stuff. Justin and crew from TT just got the external antenna and sent me the 1st one! Pure coincidence as I was on the phone with them about something else and asked what their thoughts were about the metal coverage on the front. One thing led to another and here's what arrived today! Will string it in tomorrow. Looks like it's going to have to go on the rear fender. Sigh, got to take the tank off.........again Edit: Major kudos to TT, BTW! Kelly has mentioned before how customer friendly they are and I am definitely a confirmed believer! If you ever have a question about any of their products as a user or potential buyer call them up and chat. Worth every minute.
Wow. Those anodized guards looks awesome! That might just be enough to get me to order this weekend. How well have they taken the abuse? Any color loss?
I have the HWDB guards installed on my Gas Gas and have been impressed enough to say they will be on all my future bikes.
I was going to order a pair of the hand guards tonight, but I was wondering if I could get some guidance on what to order...the site says the 86x38/40 for the top clamp... what did you guys do for the lower clamps? Finally any issues tapping the stock bars? Thanks!
For which bike? They don't make a top clamp that's compatible with the lower clamp on a 630. I had to order both top and bottom clamps. I went with a setup for my 630 that would keep my bars pretty much in the stock position. Here's a copy/paste from my invoice: Choose Your Top Clamp Bolt Pattern: 86x38/40mm Bolt Pattern. Upgrade to our Ultimate Hanguards: None Upgrade Top Clamp: PowerLet Top Clamp, Fat bars only. Add a Lower Clamp: 10mm Bolt Lower Clamp Short (1 3/4"). Add Black Anodize: None, Leave Billet Handguards Plain. Add a Mirror: Two Mirrors.
So far I have not noticed any problems with reception. I spent a week on the bike last month in eastern Oregon and it worked great the whole time.
