This happens also when you change your oil filter and crimp the black ground wire into the plastic front sprocket chain guard. I have a thread on it several months ago. Happened to me with exact same symptoms. Any one of you change the oil recently?
What the??? My screen isn't showing a 'post new thread' tab. Nowhere can it be seen! Grrrrrrrrrr...........!!
Did you check the ground wire that runs around the chain guard to the bottom bolt of the chain guard and see if it was pinched? curious to see if that was the problem
If that's the case I'll be re-positioning that ground next oil change. Don't need to be constantly messing with such an important connection.
I've been feeling around there, pulling the wire about and what not; doesn't 'seem' to be that. If I don't get it sorted by the weekend, it's going to a sparky I was speaking to earlier today. He says he'll sort it. Once sorted I'll post what the issue was on here - maybe it might be something that you guys should look out for too.
All the sparky is going to do is get a multimeter on it. You can do that too. It really is easy, and as long as you're methodical about it, you'll track it down in no time.
the symptoms tell me it is the pinched ground wire from the chain guard. It blows the same fuse and the only light that is on is the emergency top light maybe running light but i do not think the brake light works. You can not see any thing from that emergency light. When it happened to me I had to ride 35 miles pitch black and could only see 5 feet in front of me. It would have been easier with a coleman lantern to drive that night. Luckily there were two cars and I just followed them and watched there head lights. If you pay some one to look at it I am curious to find out what else it could actually be. I did what riding donkeys described with a multimeter to trace it but luckily I also remember making a note of it the night before when I changed my oil that it was going to be pinched one day kind of a bad design around moving parts. Good Luck in finding it yourself. Doubt it turns into some thing complicated.
