Well I figured I would make this thread so others don't have to go threw the madness I did. First off I did this on my smr where I needed lights. It is much simpler without lights. Here is a list of parts needed. 1. 07 or older wiring harness, cdi, volt reg, kill switch, stator flywheel and cover 2. 07 or older carb or a carb from a post 08 carbed bike. Tc or txc. 3. 08 or newer carbed bike fuel tank 4. 08 or newer carbed bike air box boot and intake boot. 5. An EFI flywheel puller yes they are different 6. 07 or older start stop switch, or you can use the mx style but will need two. the efi coil will not work. the reason you will need a cover is the efi stator uses 3 bolts to mount the stator to the cover. the carbed bikes use 2. you can use a stator/flywheel/cover from any year carbed bike, but i used a 07 because i wasnt sure if the newer carbed bikes stator had a different connector. also you dont need to buy a another tank. you can leave the fuel pump assembly in there and drill the hole for the petcock. if you look on the bottom of the tank there is a mark where it goes from the mold. personally i got another tank for simplicity reasons and the efi tank and pump assembly will easily pay for another tank.
Because the EFI sucks, my 06 510 smr ran PERFECT! And there is good reason the 450 and 530 smrr cones carbed. Carbed gets better mpg, runs smoother, less shit to break, I don't need a laptop and dyno to tune it,
The remaining two parts come in Friday. Waiting on a pre 08 start stop switch. They changed the connector in 08. It now plugs in behind the headlight. The older style plugs in by the coil via two bullet connectors. Also waiting on a stator cover. The EFI stator attaches to the cover via 3 bolts instead of the 2 bolts on non EFI Stators. Also the threads on the flywheel are different. The crank is the same but they changed the OD where the puller mounts. It is slightly larger. Almost done!!
Why would I need a dyno or laptop with the wideband?? All it does is show you your current A/F. So if it's lean or rich at a certain throttle position I can adjust accordingly.
Sense of humour ! Ironic you dont want EFI , Laptops , Dynos etc.... But want a "digital assistant" to help set up the carb
Racers have used a wide band set up for years to dial in their carbs In reality if you don't have a wide band O2 set up for your EFI to set your co1 co2 co3 you are just guessing Pinittowinit keep up the good work you go BIG DOG put a power now and a power now plus and a adjustable leak jet in that 41 fcr and you will blast.
Pinittowinit check out this little gismo we use to set up some of the bikes we work on it is A on bike dyno and the LC-1 teoughter
Thanks for the video. Not to tooth own horn but I'm a great carb tuner. But Like you said without a wideband your guessing. Every litte bit helps with performance and fuel economy. Lije the video shows you cam tune close by ear but see how much the A/f changes without a change in the engine tuning. I'll post a video on her first start Tuesday. Then I will post a video with the wideband and let's see how close I am by my tuning abilitys.
I forgot to add that I gave that new carb some Tokyo mods love before she went in. Tokyo mods fuel screw, throttle spring, and accelerator spring. And pre jetted it according to the jetting bible for huskies. Perfect setup in my old 06 with option 2. http://www.thumpertalk.com/forum/arc.../t-336681.html
Depends on where you get your parts. If you bought all new parts.,, hell I font even want to think about that. I got most of my parts hooked up, or traded, or given to me. And I'm in this for the cost of a PCv and a auto tune
