125-200cc I Rode The Prototype Wr200 And It Is Amazing...

Never rode a YZ167 but cant imagine it having more power than the WR. It is an option though if the Husky isnt available or hard to find. Looks like Husqvarna is making strides forward (slowly) in their 2 stroke development where Yamaha is a bit more stagnant. If you did go with a YZ I would like to hear what you think. Even better a comparison between the two!

Don't know about the 167 or WB165 Husky but I can say my 08 CR Walt 144 will easily out run a 144 Yamaha and would think the WB165 would do the same to the 167. LOL I was at a cycle dealer the other day and drifted over to the Yamaha section. They had a 2012 250F and 450 sitting side by side with their YZ250 and the YZ 250 really looks old in compairson. I told the salesman when he asked me what I thought about the line up that he should put a bigger gap between the 2 and 4 strokes so the 2stroke doesn't look so old. He laughed and said "I think you have a good point". Not bashing the YZ 2-stroke but come on Yamaha....

John, let me/us know how the 144 compares to your new Gasser. I've been thinking of selling or trading my 200 GasGas for a taller 144 Husky or maybe a trials bike. If I hit a stroke and had a little extra money I might just go for a new Ossa but I'd have to make up my mid which one.

I sure will and by then I hope to have the Husky sporting the WB165. I think I might go with the 250E GG since the 200 and 165 may be so close to the same power. What year and model GG200 do you have? BTW unless I read something bad about the Ossa Explorer that will be in the garage too!

Mine is a 03 EC200DE with lots of goodies like the Ohlins package big tank carbon pipe guard rear disc guard 2k3 ignition with 10oz FWW, rad guards and bark busters + a skid plate, new chain and sprockets with 13:52 gearing, a MT43 with Tubliss and a new front knobby and heavy tube. I have looked at the clutch basket and the steels are just starting to polish the basket fingers so the previous owners must not have ridden this bike much at all. I had LTR do the front and back suspension and have a complete set of new plastics in the box so I'm really not dying to get rid of it because an 03 won't bring much of a price but to replace it with something comparable would cost a lot more. This bike would be perfect if not for the fact that I'm 6'6" and my son is now taller than me and still growing fast.

How is your Husky 144 in height compared to the GasGas?

My 08 Husky CR144 is taller than any bike we own; 2010 GG300, 2011 TM 250MX, 2010 Husky TC250. LOL it's tall and I short at 5' 7" (30" inseam)! I think thats why the new Ossa Explorer looks so good to me with it's 32.5" seat height. I'm an old fart now at 53 but still play like I'm a kid so I adapt as needed.

Old at 53 ? Wish I was 53 again. Anyway the reason most of the Husqvarna seem tall is because they are all setup with the wrong springs. IMO. Mine lowered quite a bit with the correct springs. You have to get the static sags right. I had to go down from a .42 to a .40 in the front and UP from a 5.0kg in the rear to a 6.0kg. When I had correct rider sag with the stock spring I had very very little static sag. You want 30-35mm static in rear. Shoot for 103-105 rider sag. Front , I have 40mm (40-44mm) static front and exactly 75mm rider sag (perfect). Get your sags right and the bike settles on down where you can get your legs over it.

I would like to hear what those who have 165cc+ big bore kits have in the way of gearing ? I know Walt likes 14-50(or 48T). I run a lot of tight woods here in the South. Right now I have the FMF 125 fatty pipe and waiting on the FMF 200SX mod pipe. I currently have 14-50 gearing and feel ever so slightly overgeared or rather too tall by as little as 1T on rear. I did think about putting on a 110/100X18 Pirelli MT16 rear tire and going back to the 52T. I am currently running a 100/100X18 Pirelli MXtra.

Not sure if this helps you guys...but a buddy of mine has a good FMF pipe and CF guard...I think this is with the silencer for $150...

My bro still rides a 05 YZ144(Athena)...it doesnt have the low end that my 02 CR125 did...its better than a stock YZ125 but no where near the power of a wr/cr125...We did this little test years ago...We were in the NV desert...we did uphill 3rd roll on, up hill sandy roll ons, big uphill in 1 gear....He was a little pissed since my old husky at that time was 6 years old with one 1 piston change(lol) and 2 extra rings....and I am packing an extra 25-30 lbs....

Vinduro I didn't check the static but did set the rider sag. I've never checked the static sag so will setting the static sag lower the bike? I'm 200 lbs and stock springs are on the bike (2008 CR125/144). BTW I'm really a youg 53. I still play football, baseball, fish, hunt, ride, etc. I have grandson's that are 12, 10, and 3 and they keep me on the go. Now my 8 year old granddaughter has a 90cc Honda 4 wheeler I have to keep up with LOL.

Looking at switching from a 2008 TC 250 with a 300 to a 2 stroke. There are a couple of 2011 WR144's around that have me thinking. Could I ride the 144 for a year and then upgrade it to the WS165? Do you have to switch the pipe?

You sure could jwdirt. Switching pipes is an option that from what I read just brings out more of the 165 greatness. I'm running a 08 CR144 now with standard 06 FMF Fatty pipe and PC2 and she rips; btw I'm 200+ lbs! They are making the 165 kit a complete bolt on swap out deal so upgrading is gonna be quick and easy.

i would wait until you have your exhaust dialed in to decide on the gearing, the exhaust with these bigbores make a big difference how they run. BTW I run 14-51

I'm running a 12/50... like more low end... But.. I'm down on power , this will be remedied by a new head / ring (coming from Walt) after this I anticipate running a 13/50.

BTW runnin a FMF fatty..04 CR 165

Is this the Husky 125 pipe or the KTM pipe? Guys with the 165 will want to upgrade to a 200 pipe if they make a pipe change.
