There really is no way to ride the 165 and not be in love. The motor to me is PERFECT especially with the 200sx pipe.

Walt, I have not tested the PC pipe yest as we are having record rain fall. Usually that does not stop me but on top of record snow fall it is not appealing to me right now. Might try to get out and get wet this weekend.

Today,I rode my new WB165for the real 1st ride and the 35 mile loop was in great condition, but I wasn,t,my 1st real ride in 3 months.Bike ran great,a little rich, will try a 30 pilot and run 44;1 feul ratio,I ride very tight woods. The bike would lug as good as a 250 and would lite up almost instantly with a quick turn of the throttle.I found my self using 3rd gear almost all the time and 2nd for the loomy sandy steep up hilis with no run at them, most coming out of corners, like others sead you can ride like an old man or a AA rider and have a great time.2 of my buds tried the bike and told me to leave it alone and you put together a great package, they were very impressed. Thanks Walt and Kelly.

I was talking to John(ajax auto) about the 2-stroke championship at Glen Helen. He was riding in the same moto's as the two Mags testing the 144's. He hole shot them both times easily on the 165. I am sure he will be on here later to give us a full re-cap of the day. Sounds like it was a great day to be riding.

    WB165 Ride Report:

I did my first real ride today. It was a blast! The bike worked excellent. I first did one easy lap. Let it cool down one last time, then it was time to let her rip. The trails were a variety of whoops, sand, some mud, hard pack, and short singletrack sections. It was a good test to get a feel for what the 165 could do. The torque right off idle is excellent and pulled fine through the entire range. It definitely feels like my old 2004 KTM 200EXC that I had a few years back. I'm loving it!

After I got back home, I did another compression test to compare to my previous results. It is averaging about 190 psi (with 2hrs on the engine).
Here is a link to my post in my Part 2: Install thread.

    Bike Setup:
2008 CR125 converted to WB165. Squish band set for 92 octane pump gas.
Keihin PWK 38mm with RB divider on outlet side and low circuit mod.
FMF Fatty KTM 200SX custom pipe by Walt.
CR flywheel with 7oz. weight added.

I initially ran my 125's winter jetting to be safe. Temperature today was 60 F. Actually, the jetting turned out to be pretty close. The pilot will need to drop one size.
I will post my jetting specs in our Jetting Database for 165 bikes.

I am now a WB165 believer! This bike is now perfect!
Thanks Walt for creating this kit.

How many 165's are actually out there now? I'd like to get one but don't want the down time of sending in my jug until the kits are available.

We are very close to having kits done and ready to swap for your core top end. I would say that in the next couple of weeks Kelly will have at least two kits at his warehouse for immediate shipping. So your only down time will be shipping to him and his shipping back to you. Anyone going this route should ship only their head, cylinder, and power valves themselves. That way there won't be anything lost in translation. The kit will come with head o-rings, base gasket, and top end bearing. We are trying to evolve the kit to be better all the time.

If you have a pre-09 cylinder then please e-mail ahead of time to make sure we have one of those cylinders in stock for swap. We only have one of the older cylinders to use as a core.

There are ~20 kits out there right now. Have a few more that will be getting delivered in the next week or so.

Today, I got the opportunity to put a little time on my 165 and while it is not fully complete or ready to race it is getting very close and wanted to offer some initial impressions.

The carb issues that have been discussed over and over did concern me and I will offer the RD Design modifications erase any carb issues and it would be seriously hard to out preform the stock unit. Mine was bored, divided, and modified as the slide was recut. Installing the RM needle and bolting up some suggested jetting the bike ran spot on and besides turning the air screw a bit nothing else was necessary for it to idle, have no bog, and run clean across the range. Highly recommend the mod s to anyone with carb issues or concerns.

The FMF SX 200 pipe and Leo Vince Silencer/SA offered a very predictable response and no drop offs were noticed. I do think some will prefer the FMF Silencer/SA for added low end response because there is significant difference in length, but I notice increased top in response with added the Vince to the 125 during break in.

The gearing I am using is 14/49 and it was certainly responsive and had plenty of low end response and a nice top end. I do wish 6th gear was little taller but outside of that felt first gear was almost trials like and quite close.

The suspension which had just got back from being revalved was a surprise for sure. The rear shock which was revalved and resprung was nearly perfect right after bolt on. I can certainly feel the difference! The 50mm Shivers were valved and not sprung and they were a little stiff to be honest. Little adjusting on clickers resolved most of the issue and certain that with little break in they will be an ideal combo. I think part of the stiffness issue may have been a result of over torqued pinch bolts. Would welcome ideas on what others are using as to specs on top and bottom.

Now for the part everyone is really interested in the motor. Responsiveness is the word that comes to mind and it is certainly very user friendly. Off bottom there is no sign of a bog or hesitation and from idle acceleration never failed. In the mid the powerband is simply awesome and the progression into the top is quite smooth. I did not feel the power signed off any earlier than before and the top was very controllable. My only area of concern was in the powervalve timing and that might require picking Walt’s brain on adjusting them for a little harder hit, but that might be my mind asking for that and not my body!

It is most certainly the bike most of us have been looking for Walt should certainly be proud of his handiwork and I actually enjoyed the ride and look forward to getting mine all complete before end of the month and will be sharing more details as I get more time on it.
I would welcome thoughts on larger tank and mileage. I do have concerns on the stock CR tank doing 30 miles but am going back and forth on the IMS or WR tank. Anyone tried both? Thoughts?
    Mike

This area is the least amount of rocks and roots, most of NE you couldn,t grow a tomato it,s so rocky.I,ve used about 1.75 gallons of feul on 35 mile rides and can tell you I hit a mx track leading out to the trail loop and the one smooth straight away I could rev out to the moon and then some.FMF Fatty SX200pipe and stock silencer, 13;48 gearing,I think the WR ignition is the perfect engine for this kit,so tame you can ride lazy and lug or you can get agressive and with a tiny bit of clutch,n you can hang with the best of them.I also noticed I have to break harder because your,e getting to the next corner that much quicker. No lie,you can stop on the middle of a hill and still climb it,it,s almost like cheat,n.
