Are you asking if it has a warranty??

I should have mentioned that you will be able to get all future replacement parts through Motosportz! I think that will really simplify any supply issues in the future. I am sure that Kelly will get back to you with prices in the next few weeks.

I have to think that even at AA abuse levels the piston should last ~100 hours and ring replacement every 25-50 hours. Remember that your "effective" rev range is 1500-2000 rpm lower than the 125 or 144. Your best speed range is going to be 5k-10.5K.

That is funny!!! No, no warrenty, but I can't afford a DNF due to modifying and engine.
Got ya. Does it lose any of the smallbore fun factor? Cost. Total?? Any where I can ride one?? Any one I can talk to about it? Thanks.

It doesn't change the feel of the bike at all. It just changes how it makes power. If you live and die for the 12,000 rpm song of the 125/144 then it isn't going to do that. It has its own wonderful song and if you can't tell I love it. I don't think anyone can gaurantee you that any motor is going to survive the torture of an AA guy for 3 hours of WOT. I don't know where you are located so I don't know about test riding.

I'll try to answer all the questions here in one post.

    1. We are a little early in the process so lots of building and sorting out. Give us a few weeks to get the cylinders done (sent a few and we are getting more) and parts all lined up

    2. We will be testing the FMF and Doma 125 pipes on the 165 kit next week. Will report

    3. Walt ran the kit i have on my test bike for the whole Cali trip (10-15 hours) and i have several rides on it. cylinder and piston look virtually new and no compression loss. I see no reason why these will not be reliable. Custom forged piston and still a very small one so should be fine. others have made 165-167 kits before and seem to last fine. I ahve ridden several 167 YZ's int he past and those seemed to hold up fine as well.

    4. The bike retains a LOT of the 125 feel but will a lot more power. IMHO this is the perfect woods motor. It's the Wr200 I always wanted. Now we don't have to wait fir husky to never build one. This motor is fantastic and I'm not just saying that because I am in the project now. Walt went on about how good they were and i thought it is probably just a little nicer than the 144 but it is far nicer IMHO. GREAT motor. More report will come.

    5. Cost will be about $680/$750 complete depending on the cylinder used. We are still working on this. Replacement pistons are about $150 and rings $32. Still working on all this.

We are testing as much as we can. More testing happening next week, already some good hours on it. Vibration is slightly higher but far from viby. I posted projected but not solidified prices above. I will try to get this 165 on JD Dyno in the semi near future. It rips the head off a great running 144 with a Doma i know that for sure. To me it is a bigger gain than going from a 125 to 144. Once you ride this motor you will never look back.

if your around next week and want to try it let me know. would be good to get more unbiased opinions out there and i have no doubt at all anyone who rides it will be in love.

I would not be real worried about the reliability of this kit. But if you really want to do a good test maybe get one of these to ajaxauto. If Mr. “never lift” does not kill it then it will last forever for the majority of us.

Kelly – If you are doing a dyno run I have a decent running 144 with a trials tire you can borrow if you want to do a comparison with the 165.

Mr ajax auto has one and should have it installed soon.BUT my son who is twice maybe 3 times faster then me WILL {or so he says} be racing the 125/167 at all the Nationals Hare and Hounds for 2012.
Next weeken is the first of our Dist 37 Desert races and then in 2 more weeks is the first National
Hope to have it all done and tested by then. Both my 2 sons and myself have never hurt a 125 motor so this kit will be put to the test. So rest a sure if it hold up to a full on 100 mile National
with a AA rider on it then the rest of us should have no problem STAY TUNED John

Does it look like it will work with the 09 125 cyclinder? Alot of these laying around new. Powervalve mods or the same? Can I bolt it up myself, if I/m not stupid? If it burns down, can you just throw your old cylinder and piston back and have a running engine again? If it works out, great job guys!!

Yes, resolved for the new and old cylinders. I have 2 09's off to Walt now. Comes complete with the PV mods and is ready to bolt on just like you bolt the stock stuff on. you can bolt on the original cylinder at any point as there is no mods to the case etc.

    Walt,
do any ports get misaligned after boring? Any case mods required?
I wouldn't mind having a 165 top end to swap with the 125 top end.

Nice job and thanks for putting in the effort man! We've got some good tinkerers around here.

No case mods are necessary. I do port the rear transfer before boring so that when it is done it retains close to the same size and timing as stock. The rest of the transfers and exhaust port stay relatively unchanged depending on each casting. They all differ a bit. I do massage any port that is going to be changed to any degree before hand. It is pretty easy to check this before hand by measuring the ports 4mm in to see if the elevation is going to change. It is surprising how much these cylinder castings vary from one to another inside the port passages.

I'm definitely interested. I love riding the 125 around the track, but it struggles pulling my fat butt through the mtns.
Heading to Florence tomorrow.... bring it down for some torture testing :D
