WOW I must have been in a coma to have missed the five pages on this 165 deal! I knew Walt was running a 165 but missed this whole post somehow. I'm currently running Walt's high comp. 144 kit and thought it was the real deal (and it is) but now I gotta get this 165! Thanks again Walt for not resting/settling on a stock 125. Kelly, good to read you will be selling the completed kits and I look forward to your test results. Looks like my 144 will be growing up a little; lol kinda like me.

    bmah,

Well, being the resident village idiot, I have talked to them and they are a few months out from making one up for the Husky 2T's. You would need a digital ignition and a DC power source/battery. I might make a swing over to their facility in March coming back from or going to Moab so they can have a test mule. I have the DC/battery covered now. Huskie's aren't high on their priority list for making purpose built kits. Think KTM and YZ 2T's.

My head didn't have a ridge. The dome to squish was radiused already. I have had to radius heads on my Hondas before. I just rode it with my 13/52 gearing in my back yard but thus far it is OK but not what I expected. I will regear and ride next weekend. Jetting seems perfect. Engine started out a bit noisey but quieted down after running 10 minutes. I was begining to wonder if I shouldn't pull it back down. I am ordering gearing in morning from Halls. AND a new piston for my 144cc top end. Just in case I need a backup.

My take on this is just build them as a specialist build and stop saying that Husky should build one for us (dont take it as a bad thing) and take credit with a logo graphics package etc.
Just like AMG builds Mercedes super cars, Hartge builds custom BMW cars, Or even the M cars of BMW, Mugen Honda, Yoshimura Suzuki, HM Honda etc etc
Walt build em and badge em with your own logo, Husqvarna WR165 Walter Custom (with some bling graphic type thing) . this thing sounds like a winner.

Let's see what Kelly comes up with as I think he has the where with all to market something like what you are talking about. I personally don't want to get to the point where I can't do the vast majority of motor work myself. That is what I like to do. But take a new 125 install the kit, add the correct pipe for the rider, bling out the rest of the bike to make it crash and race worthy and go ride it. :D Maybe we can get Darin to bling out all the motor parts too.

Walt, just give me a little time. I have to finish the dining room project for Mrs. (Just got the drywall up/wiring in/plumbing stubbed in for upstairs bathroom). When I was gutting it, an infant shoe fell out of the ceiling, dating from the 1800's.

I have been working the past year on seeing how far I can push the 144 to oblivion and I am close. Plus, someone has been busy cutting carbs up/modifying them and now making my own needles (complimenting the final port work). Just one more engine mod, (I gotta do this so we could all benefit from it). We will be talking yet down the road for my 165 conversion.
Currently, I am working on a new graphic design, plastic scheme, frame color and etc.... for my 250. I think you guys will really like it when I release the final photos (Probably end Feb or early March. It would go perfect with the 165 concept. I am even going to tackle polishing the whole 250 cylinder. So what about the concept of a Husky 150 Magnum kit or a Husky 165 Magnum kit? Then if you and Kelly like the graphics we could get him to stock them.

That's what I'm talkin about! I think the most relevent comparative thought process in this case are the Italian Importer in house (re)built HM Honda's. They have full enduro competition ready reworked Hondas and other in house designed machines as well. Best of show with this endeavor! I'm happy to see all of your US ingenuity at play.

You might remember I tried to innocently go down that path a little over a year ago with a few closeout 125's and was publicly chastised and hammered for months by both dealers and customers alike. Was not pleasant for anyone and hurt my biz and reputation, it sucked. Was very unexpected and I was floored by the negative response and obviously had not thought the repercussions of offering a few bikes that we setup for the customer through. I am treading real light this time. The engine kit is very good and we are testing different pipes and setups so i can speak intelligently and steer customers in the right direction for setting up the kits to work for their personal needs. Walt approached me about doing this and was driving this, I am not jumping in last minute to try to rake in a profit. I have known Walt for years now since we rode for a week in Moab and think we have a nice mutual respect and good working relationship. Our testing sounds "fun" but really we have spent good time and development on the 125 platform after I sold my personal and very farkled 08 TXC450 to get the new 09 WR125 and start down this path. This sparked a whole movement (which I'm not taking all the credit for in any way, many were there before me) resulting in Scott Harden posting here that husky should be giving me bikes as I influenced so many 125 sales it was obvious to him/them. This is all good stuff and fun to be involved in. We will stock and be a point of resource for Walts very nice kits. This allows us to help the customer decide on the right setup for them and leaves Walt free from the retail side of things to do what he needs / wants to do. It should be a very good way for everyone to get in on this and be supported.

As for additional parts I am already in process with graphics and skid plates for the 125. We already have disk guards, rad guards, dampers and other products for these 125's. If someone wants a package deal that is never an issue. As for a HM Honda type deal I don't think there is a big calling for that although I love the idea and would love to be part of something bigger like that. This industry is very soft and like everyone else we are struggling and cutting where we can or have to. I would love to toss money and several projects but need to be real careful so we do not end up closing like a lot of other big and small companies in this dying industry and can stay afloat. Runniong a small biz, heck any biz in this MC industry right now is done a lot for passion as much as profit (ask my wife :>). I really want to support this effort, LOVE the 125 platform as you all know and feel we have years of testing and experiences to add to the wealth of knowledge and effort here and will do what we can / what the customer needs.

I appreciate the input and thoughts for direction. Walts kit is fantastic and we are 100% on board. We have cylinders off to him and things are rolling. It is in it's infancy and test phase so there is a little time before this is production ready and support is in place. As you all know we freaking love the brand, have been in this Husky game since 04 (when I bought my first new husky the TE450) when almost no one else wanted anything to do with it or wanted to offer any support and product for a small brand. It has not been an EZ path to take with severely limited customer base. We are working within our means to continue this support for the brand and this is just another great product we are supporting development on and being involved with because we believe in it, have tried it and understand it. Thats how we work here, offer things we build or have tested and can speak intelligently about. I could make all sorts of little shinny anodized trinkets and sell them on eBay and make more money but thats not the passion we have here. My TT name is Ride because it is that simple for me. I freaking love to ride like some people like crack. I love the people involved in this industry and Husqvarn it self (bikes, customers and company). People that know me know that. Husky is the brand I choose and work my ass off to stay in a position to make my Motosportz effort support the dream. I wish for bigger things like all the great suggestions here but reality is I struggle to pay my share of the family bills while I toil away at making some profit in a very small industry. I have a very supportive family and customer base and thank all of you :notworthy:.

We love this effort and will support it as we can. Please keep the suggestion coming and work with us to make this a great effort. Sorry for the long drawn out and sometime off topic post. Passion gets in the way sometimes.

I just picked up a 7 Port Cyl. for my 09' WR125. This is a donor Cyl. that I hope will make a great Candidate for a 165. It has one scar that isn't that deep at all. By looking at the Cyl. it is very thick and should make a great 165. I still need to learn what I have to exactly mail out and to where. Feel free to PM me w the info. Here's some pics*

That cylinder will work fine, that scratch will be long gone. We are still working on logistics but ultimately Walt is building the kits and I am supporting them. Send the cylinder to Walt. You will most likely get it back from me all ready to go. We are still working out the details and kits.

here is the 125 piston int he 165 cylinder, as you can see the scratch will be long gone...

I would at some point soon like to offer a demo ride on this bike to locals (or anyone who wants to come ride it). Maybe this weekend. Would love to get others on it and get opinions flying. Anyone in?
