The terrain is not terribly technical at all. Occasionally there will be a hill or two that causes some trouble -- but they are generally not too bad. What makes the race hard is the pace and the distance. Imagine a trail ride of some of your favorite single track -- now imagine doing it for 6-7 hours with about a 5 minute break every 90 minutes. I didn't race last year but in 2011, the speed averages were so fast that 80% [that's not a typo] of the riders on the B schedule houred out. I was on time fore the first 30 miles and was late the rest of the day. So I rode for 5 hours AS FAST AS I COULD RIDE. Finished about 30 minutes down and finished about 15th on the B class. If the pace hadn't been so quick -- the conditions were epic [the same year as Jake's video]. You just followed the strip of black soil. This is a great race and a must do. The finish is priceless.
What makes it really gnarly is borrowing a buddies 05 TE510 setup for someone that outweighs you by 50 plus pounds at the last minute when you realize your bike has eaten the intake valve again to ride 6 hours of single track on. I was almost crying in my helmet the last 15 miles of the 122 that day. Still fun
Host club Boise Ridge Riders posted rules and race info. DOT, EPA (CARB) LEGAL FUEL CONTAINERS ONLY. These Type are good from what I understand (May buy a bunch to sell at the event.......) Blitz and Scepter are a couple of manufacturers that make EPA/DOT/CARB compliant "Jerry Cans" http://www.lowes.com/pd_90258-1362-85033_0__?productId=3654528&Ntt=blitz gas can&pl=1¤tURL=?Ntt=blitz+gas+can&facetInfo=#BVRRWidgetID
I F-ing HEAT those new cans. EPA my ass, i ahve never dumped so much gas all overt han before they made these F-ing things. Still plan on doing this event, you?
So much for the mash a gallon jug full of gas until it overflows the tank method. This works nicely on the 449/511 if you aren't concerned about soaking your rear tire :-)
Yes, and still planting seeds among my crew and extended crew, gotta have at least one trip partner. As for the EPA gas can thing, at least it isnt a high speed pit stop type deal. We have the take your time fueling option here.
Sign up is open, better get in before it sells out... http://www.boiseridgeriders.org/pre_entry.htm Later,
Glad to see all this action, hope I'm not too grumpy and race faced during this meet and greet CH riders get together!!, I'm proud of you CH guys!! Yes I'm signed/committed/enlisted...... 2DAY 50A..... I hope we can create some sort of paddock/Pit area to support each other and for fun as well. I still have some Husky marker tape rolled up in pit box. I'll be using a moto customized Wht Sprinter with Wales UK stickers on ithe windows. Dont know if I will have a pit honey or fellow racer with me yet, none of my local crew have stepped up. 1000 miles up and 1000 miles back....it's a little bit of a hack. Looking to arrive Thurs eve or Fri morn.
At this point I have to plead the 5th... What class are you signed up for? It would be cool to have an all 125/165 minute. If I were signed up I might be signed up for 30a, but if I want to ride with Kelly I have to switch to 30b. The goal is just to finish both days so the class doesn't matter much to me. Hmmmmm. These life decisions are so tough. Later,
I'm heading to Lowes they seem to have a good variety of $%&#^ing EPA cans. I'm thinking about a few 2 or 3 gal size cans? The TXC tank is only a little over 2 gals, so a small 2g epa can out at gas stop with some goodies tied to it may be the easy way to go. I'll keep the illegal 5 gal can in the van to refill the little guys. Rules are now with the 35 mile max between fuel regulation.
I originally signed up for 30A, but switched to 30B. That would be cool to have a group of 125/165s buzzing around the mountain. I've never done Idaho City before, so I'm taking the easy way out and just doing 1 day.
I signed up for 40B (and I'll be the older one in that class!)as I wanted more time between checks so if it ends up being a hot one I can recover. Not really a race for me just a good time. Jump on my minute if you want. I think Jake might drop to 30B so we are on the same minute too.
It is EZ to pit together and everything is right there. But there is no really helping each other as you leave the pits and never really come back through. your pretty much on your own for 120 miles. People on the same minute or close can help each other because you will see each other all day. the real "race" is comparing special test times at the end of the day regardless of your class. Although the A class has the advantage of a much less torn up course.
That would rule if you were on our minute, I am now 30B. Kelly is our captain, captain Kelly... haha Just request to be on his minute "You guys are set. I made Kelly the Captain (#79) and Jake the group rider. I changed Jake’s class to B4 Vet. Later,
