???? so, how was the race??? I'm dying to know what I missed out on. Hope it was a huge success with more dates planned for next year.
Just a brief post until I can my material and photos together to post here. Unfortunately, despite a generous purse offered by Husqvarna, turnout was significantly less than we expected. We were expecting in the range of 16 to 18 Husky racers, only six turned out for the race. That includes me and Richard Kenton-Weeks. We looking for a better turnout in order to persuade Husqvarna to help support a Midwest race series in 2010. Not sure what the prospects are now but I plan to stay in touch with the folks at Husqvarna. On the positive side, I think the six of us had an excellent time. Definitely, a mix of skill sets with beginners to pros in the race. One of the most exiciting elements of the heat race occurred when Hall's Husqvarna-racer, Ron Peterson, crashed on lap two and the entire field passed him. Restarting the bike took a while but once restarted, he hustled through field to finish in second place. An excellent effort for a guy who had a double hernia operation just eight weeks ago. The other truly positive aspect of the event was the opportunity to shine a spotlight the Husky supermoto bikes. They got a lot of attention and MI Supermoto owner, Dave Duprey, made announcements throughout the day thanking Husqvarna and promoting the brand. (Thanks, Dave! Great job on organizing and managing the entire Michigan Supermoto Championship series!) Hopefully, Husqvarna dealers in the Midwest will see some sales as a result of the exposure in this race. I'll post up more information and photos later. Have to get some real work done today.
Glad you all had a lot of fun and bummer that more people couldn't make it out. I was fully prepared to make the trip (bought a bike for it already even...) but neglected to register that it was the little guys B-day. Anyway, if there is anything I can do to help out and convince Husky that they should continue their support of supermoto next year, let me know and I'll do whatever I can. I have done my part with buying their bikes (4 and counting this year) and like you, we know that the SMR450 is a rocket right out of the crate and is the best bang for the $$ in the street legal supermoto category here in North America. Hopefully they will try a similar event once more next spring when all of the northerners are thawing out from ice racing and are itching to get back into SM riding. In our area, racer turn-out and enthusiasm tends to be higher in the spring and maybe the same holds true for you out your way?? Anyway, glad you had fun and I look forward to the pictures and more info when you get it posted up. I was there in spirit and if they try again next year, I'll be there for sure! Just don't book it on the weekends of Mar 25 or 29, or Sep 25. BTW, how fast were the fast guys? Did you take home some Husky Bucks??
I realize this post is way overdue but wanted to see whether we could get a race report published in a national magazine. We did, albeit a short one. Check out the October 28 issue of Cycle News (issue #42) on pages 34-35 for the race report. Hopefully, this will generate more attention for a series next year. We'll see.
