If the mapping on the JD unit is all done right there on the box, how do you know if you got it set up correctly? Seat of the pants & exhaust sound?
ALL the huskys need to go richer. I tuned mine by feel and was very close. It is obvious when you add fuel and it runs far better. They come with some idea where to start but basically they all need a little more on the bottom, a little more than that mid and a lot more top. My bike runs far cooler as well. It is really quite EZ to set up once you read the instructions and understand what it is doing. Also if installed where you can see ti it shows you where you are in the map so you know which parameters to change.
What I don't get is why it seems so complicated to have something like this tied in to a wide o2 sensor so there is no adjustment needed. (less expensive then pc v)
You've said this does much better than ibeat. You also mentioned it adjusts 3 settings like pilot, needle and main. Other than doing it on the fly, how is that different than adjusting(richening) co1 co2 co3 with ibeat? Not trying to hammer ya here, just trying to learn.
The thing gets results you can feel and adjust on the spot if needed. I could never get rid of the low end stutter completely with iBeat no matter what I did with co adjustments even after the reflash. A couple of course adjustments in the garage and a couple of rides for fine adjustments using some common sense and everything is butter! I have no idea if power was increased or decreased but it runs great. I yield around 25-28 mpg being in 1st and 2nd gear a lot on latest rides. 1st gear is pretty tall on this bike.
There's actually 6 settings with the JD compared to 3 with iBeat. Idle mixture, throttle closed (like pilot and fuel screw or air screw) Just off idle, 1/8-1/4 throttle (needle and pilot) Mid, 3/8 to 5/8 (needle clip, needle, main) High, WOT (main jet) Starting point of "Mid" setting, how early or late the mid kicks in, (needle tapers) Accelerator pump, shot of juice with a quick twist of the throttle. I've used iBeat on my 2010 TXC 250. The JD tuner is vastly superior in terms of overall adjustment capability, and more importantly, actual results where the rubber meets the road. Hope this helps.
Kelly Will this work with my 08 450 FI? Seems like yes from your first post, but JD's site does not list it. I want it if it will work. Thanks
I believe there is one for that model, will check. Please send me a regular Email and I'll sort it out. motosportz@gmail.com
I have one and absolutely love it. I have a FMF Q4, single, standard airbox with out labyrinth and OEM PU. The bike is awesome. i can run it from sea level to 8.5k (so far) and i get 45mpgs average. i can say enough good things. i mounted right above the battery under the seat. the maping they sent with it is right on. PM me if you have questions.
Does anyone know if jd's done his base mapping with the stock husky muffler and in race mode? Another other combos or bikes with the o2 sensor still installed would require self adjustment / fine tuning I would think. Also probably no more need for that pesky mode switch either.
The mode switch alters the curve and I'm told it should work with the JD tuner. Mode 3 is for mud/rain and is designed to help reduce wheel spin in those conditions.
I recall i was told it was sent to me set up for PU kit installed, aftermarket exhaust, labyrinth removed. I have already adjusted it since to match what i need AND to get the good MPGs. I ensured my ECU is at 100%/100%/100%.
Will work for anything as it is adjustable leaner and richer. Will add a lot of power and better running on any bike. Pretty EZ to adjust it by the seat of the pants method and cure any issues you might have.
So all this talk about it but never a mention of the cost? I see it's $209 on the JD website but how much are you selling it for?
