Well who is going to give it a try this year? Come on if this old man can finish you need to at least try. Been out testing and trying a few different set ups. I did it last year on the CR 165 but she had a hard time on the big hills. I need my 300 for the Nationals which are the weekend before and the weekend after. SO I have been trying out the Wr 250 Might just ride the 250 this year unless my son Matt who said he will ride this year rides it. Believe it or not so far stock gearing is working fine. Rode the 250 a lot today and it just works so well in the tight and the hills. Only stalled it once all day Headed back out there next weekend to ride some of last years course
I've seen this race before, but I couldn't remember on the phone yesterday. You're crazier than I thought. Is a trials tire outlawed for this? I love riding out in Johnson Valley, but not on that hill. Maybe I'll come out there and sell XF coolant on a table haha.
there is only one nut crazy enough for KOM on this site.......Mr 50A Dez #1. I love thrash fests and hard tests, I just finished one, but that one was only @ 50 miles long of tough wet rainy rocky cactusy manzanita-y stuff Until I i ride a thasher 2 stroke, I couldnt destroy my TXC-R on that course....besides I think it would break before I did. John I'll be rootin for ya!! PS if I did do it it would be a 300 2T with a Goldentyre FIM style gummy 140/80-18 balloon rear and FIM type front with mousses in both ends.
You guys love that Gummy tire. I'm thinking the 255/256 would be better, but it might be too much of trails tire to be allowed.
Graham Jarvis uses the GT Gummy 140/80-18 to win/podium all of his extremo events.......and y'all know weirdo me I love FIM type tires front and rear, I have been running Pirelli scorpion pro fims from 140/80s on my 450 to the 120/90s on my 310
John have we ever ridden that in H&H races? I remember more than a few from the Jan H&Hs and from your 100s H&Hs that were moto carnage hills.
Stefy at Golden tyre told me Gram Jarvis did not run the gummy at KOM because of some of the high speed sections. She told me he used the Enduro tire with the extra soft moose Gram did have that moose go bad. BUT that was after 160 miles of both super rocky and some super fast high speed sections. Cody web also had his moose go bad but was just in front of Gram when it happen and was able to get to the finish first. I ran a IRC competition trials super soft 400/18 rear tire with a heavy dudy tube. That tire and tube made it but I only had to do 80 miles. I do not think it would have made another 80 miles. That tire, tube and rim then sat in my garage for 1 year untouched .I put it on added some air and went out this past weekend to do some testing for this years race. The tire got a small hole after about 2 hours.I filled it up to about 25 pounds and went riding it would last about 1 hour and then go flat. So I will keep trying different things before the race. The video tinkin posted was from last weekend where I had the old IRC tire on with about 20 pounds of air. Yes it works better with a lot les air I did purchase a new Golden Tyre Gummy 140/80 18 and a regular moose to also try out
aha that makes sense, also for the notebook try an FIM 140/80-18 tire like my fave Pirelli Scropion Pro FIM and stuff a new Michelin M14 Mousse in. That will for sure go the distance and you be surprised how well it works in the really technical stuff. And how well it sits on top of the soft sandy stuff as well. They are really engineered to last last one day at ISDE comp. Mine last a while but never too long, on dry rocks they really stick and you can do no spin low rpm climbs.
That hill or the sign on the top says So Cal Vista. Put there by the So Cal Motorcycle Club. They used that as part of there 3 rd loop down hill at this years So Cal National round 4 back in April. The so Cal Club as used it before I had no idea I was going up there down hill until I crested the top. Sorry I got a little carried away when I saw the sign on the hill. I also have a short video from this past weekend where Matt and I went up Jackhammer trail and a few down hills we made. The video really does not show just how steep and rocky some of these trails are. YES I know we are crazy Matt was on the Wr 250
Glad you reposted that. I saw you comment on FB and I meant to watch the vid but forgot all about it. I can't wait for the new KOM video
Jarvis' Mousse did not so much fail, as it was murdered. Drilled to near death, prior to the race. There wasn't much left of it at the start, goodness how they thought it would survive in a race that, from what I've gathered of the KOM, has some fairly high speed thrown in. I think Chilly's site had prep pictures - was it Chilly that weilded the drill?
Here is another look at the Jackhammer trail. It was part of last years KOM. We also made a new down hill on the way back to camp. Out having some fun before race day View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2OPAS833aLo
4:15 made me pucker up. I'd need my 511 set up differently before I felt comfortable going down that.
John, you have any gps tracks of last years race? I know most of the hammer trails I just don't know which direction you guys went.
Deleted my tracks BUT I have a few maps. Also I am going out again this coming sunday and plan to ride the course from the start to at least the 1/2 mark which would be 40 miles. I will try to bring my GPS and record the trails.
John I understand there will be a qualifying round this year. I'd hate to pay the entry fee and not get to race due to a problem in the qualifying round. I would just assume to start last and save myself for the race. I'll be camping at boone road before new years and run some of the course if I can figure it out.
I'll be out there (not racing) for the KOH race. My father and I help tech the race cars. is anyone hanging out after KoM for the week? we'll be riding all week except thurs/fri.
Yes there is a qualifier on Sat BUT there is a new up dated program that Dave Cole along with Jimmy Lewis posted. The update stated that for this year the entry for the pro class is 300 and the sportsman class is now 200 dollars. It also states that you do not need to do the Saturday qualifier if you do not want to. You will be allowed to race Sunday only. Better if you go on line to read all about it yourself I do not want to have read it wrong
Best of Luck Ajax, I do hope that David Knight comes with Dougy Lampkin and Jarvis because Knight is the stud when it comes to the high speed parts put in to help the ringers[ U.S. ] Any way it will be interesting. You have some serious energy Ajaxauto that is for certain.
