I've been thinking the same, have new reed intake on the way and crank seals too. Don't think it's the seal though, been there and it's not spewing the smoke like that. Once I feel it is 100% dialed, I am gonna compare the stock carb to the Lectron back to back. Murphy's Law has been in full effect as of late!! Haha
I thought I was in great shape as far as my Lectron 165 tuning was concerned. Ripping around the farm everything was peachy. Now I'm riding the bike where Kelly and Blake raced yesterday and I have a wandering idle I've been chasing all day. If I go 1/4 turn richer it slobbers the way it used to when it was two full turns too rich. If I go 1/4 turn leaner it doesn't have the power to move, massive bog. Something has changed. The bike runs good and is rideable with 1200-1800+ idle swing but I can't believe the difference 1/4 turn now makes Real head scratcher-
Makes sense. I pulled the LHS cover and sprayed startng fluid there and all around the carb. No change, might have some bad petals? The bike does also seem like it has a bit of bog before the PV opens, but has a real good top end. I see what you guys were talking about how the 165 pulls through the deep stuff. !! Better not ride it anymore though. Sad thing is that I had the WR250 in the trailer and took it back out and left the 165.
I have never had a reed failure the bore and head on my 250 was pretty banged up from reeds that came apart when I got it.
Well I'm working on fine tuning my lectron. Powerjet is all the way open (3 turns), bike hesitates going from half to full throttle. If I whack the throttle open it'll go bah,bah,bah, braaahhhpp. Hesitates for what seems like 3 seconds doing this. Closing in the pj makes it way worse. I just put new reeds in to be sure, running a br9eix plug. Maybe should try the old br9eg. Pulls on the bottom and top great, its amazing how much more pick-up it has coming out of berms even in sand. I can tell it spools up much faster than the mikuni ever did. I dunno if there is a sweet spot with the lectron pj I was playing with 1/2 turns from 1.5 out and it seemed to get a little better every turn out.
You need the new rod that Kelly is having made. I ground mine to his specks and I was able to back off the PJ almost 2 turns and no more BAH when you whack it open waiting for the PJ to start feeding fuel. I wasn't having quite the problem you were but I could still make it hesitate in the right circumstances. Re-ground rod eliminates this completely.
My 09 WR250 with 38mm Lectron is 1/2 turn leaner on the rod then it came out of the box. I made the adjustment before I even rode it based on what others were posting as their settings. My power jet was at 1 1/4 turns out and I turned it in 1/4 once the weather started warming up. I suspected it was a bit rich but couldn't get a good high gear load on the engine with all the slippery mud I was riding in. At 1 turn on the power jet the bike really rips, it's crisp and clean with no signs of being too rich or too lean anywhere in the power-band. (even the purple power-band!!) Fuel mileage has really improved especially in the tight single track and no signs of it ever wanting to load up and foul a plug. I haven't touched the idle screw since the first 5 minutes of the first ride over a month ago. If you roll the bike over once slow with the kick starter it will start 1st kick cold with the choke and no need to lean the bike over an let it pee. Once warmed up it is always 1st kick unless it has set and you try to start it in gear, then it's 1st or 2nd kick. I really don't know what else a guy could ask for in a carburetor.
Did my 1st ride with my Lectron on a 09 WB165 and did 30 miles of single track and used about 1 and a quarter gallons of feul,was useing my 2 gal stock tank and I still have not adjusted a single thing on the carb.Bike ran incredible and will pull the middle and almost rev to much and there still has a good low end responce that I would like to come on quicker but again I do have the WR ignition .Checked the plug and it was a lite co co tan,leaner than it ever has been with the TMXX.might just richen the power jet slightly.I,m very pleased with the Lectron and also I ,m riding in N.E. at500 ft above sea level.I can throw a rock to the Atlantic Ocean,Oh look a Das Boot.
I had a long detailed message typed out and my phone screwed it up so anyway lets try again,, Im having a problen similoar to the one described with having a bog with large throttle openings and just curious how or if you solved it. Mine runs great off the bottom and rips up top if i rev it gently to high rpms then hammer it i can rip thru all 6 gears full throttle if i keep the r's up. If i hammer it from anything what feels below 5-8k rpms itll just bog until i let out. Above that it flies. Almost makes me wonder if the pv is acting up or something as the rod seems spot on as it idles clean and ive tried that darn pj in and out with little to no improvement Any tips or ideas is appreciated! Matt, I replied and gave you suggestions via Email. Sounds like it is not rectifying your top end issue. Give Kevin at Lectron a call and tell him I sent you to resolve this. He has decades of experience and should be able to sort it. Very nice guy.
Just for future reference, I ended up going richer by a half turn or so on the metering rod. Big difference. It still had the issue with the ms3 rod and shorter powerjet. I can't say for sure if the rod/pj helped or not but regardless it seems the bike clearly wasn't getting enough fuel to be happy at that mid rpm transition.
I'm happy where its at now Kelly. Appreciate it though. Once I get my 165 pipe I can forget about the carb.
i've just installed Wally's 165 kit and a quick ride around the yard its seemed horrible, no punch, very boggy. Is there a different setting i need to use for the 165 kit?
What carb? Should not need to change it. If you do it is slightly leaner your looking for. Where did you set the powervalve arm when you reassembled the head. Make sure the bolt on the PV actuation arm is at least halfway up the slot or you get a bog and hit. It ran fine as a 125 and you installed the 165 and it is boggy? I would look at the PV setting if that is the case.
Need some help with some adjustment, I just installed the 144 kit and for it to idle right the adjustment screw is only almost closed and can't seem to get it run to be strong down low. What do I need to do?
