    I have an '08 TE 610.

First i put on a free flow exhaust--it happened to be an Uptite unit, but really all free flow exhausts are going to have similar effects to performance. And what a difference it had! It was VERY noticable. Huge WOW factor. At the same time i unplugged the o2 sensor, removed it, and i put in a brass bung in the mid pipe where it had been. I got around 50mpg this way. Did about 1000 miles. It ran well at sea level in the desert. There was a blinking light on the dash, indicating the bike was thinking something was wrong, but no big deal.

After a couple months i added the 2.2k ohm resistor (that some might call a 'chip' - although its not really a chip in the common sense of the word). It plugged right into the wires where the o2 sensor had plugged in before. George made some up, and i got mine from Kelley who also sells them.
By doing this the bikes FI delivery system was 'told' to switch from the stock, lean, corked up, injector 'map', -- to a much richer, 'race' injector map that performs VERY well with the opened up exhaust. I did this for more performance gains, not because the bike wasnt running well (it was running good without the chip, and with an opened up exhaust using the stock FI settings, with only minor backfires on rare occasion).

With the 2.2k ohm resistor (chip) in place, the bike again had a big increase in performance. About the same increase (again) as it gained when i put on the free flow exhaust. However, fuel economy is now down a bit, and it would be nice to have the option of riding the bike with either 'race mode' or 'economy mode' - for example on the pavement i dont need to be in race mode.

So imho the 'power up' kit gains about half its increase from the 'chip' and about half from an open exhaust. Its a BIG difference. Like a whole new bike. It is now faster than my XR650. Its a fast bike! It still gets decent milage, over 35 mpg when i am 'on it', but i would love to be able to get 50mpg when i'm on the highway.

Hope that helps guys thinking of opening up their bikes.

Poping on decel does not autmatically mean Lean. Excessive lean will create very high EGT and this does become a problem but poping on decel has other explainations. Some perfectly tuned 4 stroke engines pop with no harm what so ever.

I completly agree with you on this. I am quite sure based on plug readings, with my bike anyway, that the popping I experienced was due to a lean condition and I am sure its all about the EPA BS that makes these bikes come this way.
I've never seen a plug so white that there was actual ash on it come out of a running motor before. I was scared to ride it after seeing that.

If it was that worrisome I would use a borescope (through the sparkplug hole) to inspect the inside of the cylinder, make sure piston is not showing signs of burn.

I noticed you are in CA, I wonder if the stock ECU settings are different for CA bikes? Although usually a slightly richer mixture has less pollutants... The higher EGTs of leaner mixtures often mean more CO,NOx and HC thus the stock bike has a Cat to deal with these.

Also have you had any other FI adjustments?

I just ordered an 08 SM610, and I was wondering how much gain was available from just a slip on vs. a full system. I am going to be doing a lot of commuting, so I think I'll leave the O2 sensor in place for milage.

Nothing would suprise me anymore regarding Ca. and emission settings. They are building stations on some major hiways where you can stop, get a latte and plug in your electric car.

As of now all I have done is bypass the O2 sensor and add the LV slip on. The bike has ran perfect ever since and the plug is nice and tan. I have never checked any of the settings with the I beat setup. I get around 125-130 miles out of the stock tank which is not ideal but so far, good enough. I'm going to try to come out your way this summer for West Fest on the TAT so will need more range. I'm thinking about plugging the sensor back in and playing with the settings. I have a friend with the software all setup.

    You running the stock plug?

I will be at WF09, I will be the guy on the 08 red/black 610, haha a few years ago there might have only been 1 or 2 but not any more!

You have typed 2.2 ohm several times, do you mean 2.2K ohm? as in 2,200 ohms?

I assumed it to be 2.2K (2200) ohm.

Then a bidi and a mango lasse and fries.

    Hi Mike-Kay.
Just been reading your post. I have a 09 --TE610 That i have just sent for my first service. Will fetch her this afternoon. I also bought a Arrow aftermarket new pipe that i got at nearly half price. The agent here showed me the pipe and i see that it comes with a electronic plug or something that plugs onto the end of the lamba sensor wire. Is this enough. Do i need to do anything else to the bike--mapping etc. Or is it all taken care of. Apparently this pipe is made specially for the 610 and approved with the warranty. Thank's any info will be appreciated.

I have a 2008' SM 610 with a Leo Vince slip on pipe. The fuel injection was remapped for the pipe by the dealer and I was wondering if I will need to have it remapped again if I buy the Lambda removal kit - plug, washer and electrical cap?

I just added the Lambda removal kit and the bike runs great. No more popping and farting and it feels like it runs stronger. It was raining today where I live so I will have to wait for a dry day to really test it. So far I'm very happy with it!

    Nice. :)

It sounds like the ktm could use some fine tuning with the carb, perhaps?

    Thanks,

I felt the same way, but I couldn't hear it very much.

And if you think I'm a young kid - I'll be 59 on Monday.

Has anyone tried the Husky dual map switch in their Special Parts catalog, p/n 8000H0590? I tried to get one for my 08 and 09 TE450 but was told by the dealer it was not available. Seems like the perfect option for the fuel mileage/off-road power tradeoff. I have an 09 TE610 still stock and I would like the option of picking between the modes, 15 mpg is a big deal.
