Sorry to bring up an old thread, but LV offers two different slip ons. The Motorcross (P/N 3845C) and the Enduro (P/N 3552). It appears that the Enduro does not have the inserts you are discussing. Speaking with the LV tech, he says they are built in, no options. He also said the Enduro is 94db. The Motorcross version has inserts and can blow up to 102db and also has the Carbon Fiber end cap. So, are you guys using the Motorcross version? Does anyone have feedback on the Enduro version? Thanks
I was wondering why the "enduro" muffler I got from motostrano has no 94 and 98db inserts as advertised.. this helps explain it. I got a 3845C which has only a spark arrestor and is otherwise a straight glasspack muffler. It does have the carbon fiber endcap, which is cool, but I think the 3845 will be way too loud.. we'll see if motostrano makes good on this.
Wait, I'm confused. Did you get the Enduro or the 3845C (motorcross)? The Enduro doesn't have removable inserts, but should only blow 94db. It also has a built in Spark Arrestor. The 3845C has removable inserts.
I should have made that clearer.. I ordered what is advertised as an enduro muffler with 94 and 98db inserts. They sent the motocross muffler. The box is stamped 3845C and there are no baffles in the muffler or inserts in the box, only a spark arrestor which is not installed by default. It doesn't matter to me if the muffler has permanent baffles or removable inserts. It just needs to be 94db. I'm quite certain the motocross muffler is much louder than that because it is straight through. There is no way for me to baffle it. If the motocross muffler is supposed to come with inserts and mine are just missing, maybe I can buy a 94db insert from one of you guys. But let me see what motostrano says..
Thanks, That makes sense. LV Tech told me that you had to buy the inserts for the Motorcross version separately.
Update: Well Motostrano doesn't pick up my emails, but they did seem willing to set this right, once I got them on the phone. I will not have to ship the whole muffler back.. they promise to send the baffles. They also say the only difference is that the Enduro comes with removable baffles. That contradicts what the LV tech said. But whatever, I'll be happy to receive whatever baffles get it down to a reasonable level. Plus I can reinstall the exhaust with no delay...
I just ordered the Enduro version from Pipe City ($299, no shipping). I'll report back once I get it and installed.
Wow. Compared to that deal, I got hosed. The Motostrano guy called back and asked me to unpack the box and see if there are any allen bolts holding the encap on. Maybe the inserts they have need to be installed upstream of the cap (?) On Friday they were in the middle of talking to LV and just sort of dropped it, and the baffle is not in the mail. I think I'll call back Monday for a straight return, which was the original plan that they hemmed and hawed at.
Got to call them. Talk to Megan and provide the part number. They are a dealer for LV and will have LV ship direct to you. She said they can order virtually any pipe for any bike even if it is not listed on their site. I've pruchased from them several times over the years and they have great customer service. I had a spring that holds the can to the pipe that broke after a few months. I called to purchase a replacement and they sent me two for free.
Well I got the pipe yesterday and it was not exactly as the LV tech described. It was the 3552 Enduro model but it came with one insert in the can and two additional ones. Also the spark arrestor screen was included but not installed. It did not have the carbon end cap as expected. So the main difference was that the insert was not permanent. I hope to install tonight and try the longest insert with the screen. We'll see how quiet it is. Also an interseting side note. Included was a copy of the letter from the USFS certifying the results of spark arrestor testing. It said that it was only certified for motors up to 39 HP.
The LV tech convinced me to keep the motocross version, saying the new one that I got is 94db without any inserts. I have not gotten the bike together and tried it yet, but will give them the benefit of the doubt for now.
My last update Installed the pipe & Lambda removal kit last night. Great power improvement. Here's the deal with the enduro (3552) pipe. The pipe came with two long inserts and two short inserts along with the spark arrestor screen. One long insert is able to work with the screen and one long insert will not. The same for the short ones. The long one not compatable with the screen was installed from the factory. I will say that the long inserts were not much louder than stock. Good sound. The short one was LOUD! It sounded good, but over the top for me. I ended up using the long insert with the screen and am very happy.
Update: I too am very happy I don't know how they did it, but the 3845C is pretty quiet. I just put the spark arrestor in and installed it, expecting to get all POed about how LeoVince bullshitted me into running a too-loud muffler. They did not. It sounds about the same as the stock muffler. The design looks about the same as another muffler (the coveted MRD/SSW) I had on a DRZ. It has the typical steel perforated core surrounded with packing, and no baffles. Yet this wide-open LeoVince isn't half as annoying as the MRD. I tried to baffle the MRD and it was still way louder than the 3845C. So both me and my neighbors are greatly relieved.
