    1. Another +1 here for the new posts button.
    2. Time spent browsing all the sub categories is time well spent. There is a treasure trove of FREE info there. After one learns what's in those, he can just use #1 on subsequent visits.
    3. For everything else, SEARCH works quite well
    4. Is that all the flaming the OP is going to get? Sheesh, think of what would happen on ADVrider. Oh well, I guess that's why CafeHusky is the classier forum and that is part of the reason I like it.

Search doesn't work as well as you think sometimes..... I was looking for my Eco Enduro post. When I typed in Eco Enduro, nothing, but when I typed in Electric Bike I got it.

I agree, the search is not perfect. The real problem though is for the people that are so new to this site they don't know what to search for. By the way try using quotes for 2 word searches, that may help "Eco Enduro", or even try 'AND' e.g. Eco AND Enduro.

I've been actively searching for a better search alternative. If that works out it should solve a lot of the problems.

But hey, lets congratulate ourselves at least a little bit, late in 2009 thanks to our new (very quiet) tech person, huge number of hours, and significant $, we can now search for 3 character items such as 'gps' and 'ims'

Other sites, including TT perform no better than CH. If you can find better performance in the search function.... Cool!

Use Google to search the forums. Enter the following into the Google search box:

    site:www.cafehusky.com ECO

I got 79 hits, all on cafehusky posts.

This works on many forums, including ADVrider, where I first learned about it.

ECO is replaced with whatever you're searching for.

NOTE: the software on this site changed the line above that begins with 'site:' and made the www string into a URL. So retype this as you see it if copy/paste fails.

    More complete info.

    Google search forums

    site:www.advrider.com laminar wr250r

To search for threads within a forum, add the full path of the forum, as it appears at the top left of each page. For instance, if you want to search only Flea Market for KTM 950 stuff, you could use this:
    site:advrider.com "ADVrider > Gear > Flea Market" KTM 950

If you wanted only Parts, then tack a "> Parts" to the end of that quoted bit.

    Example search:

site:advrider.com "ADVrider > Gear > Flea Market > Parts" KTM 950 fuel pump

Site seems pretty straight forward to me. Half the fun is navigating through the different forums and reading at one's leisure. Just enjoying the threads and posting replies with fellow Husky fans burns up a couple of relaxing hours in what may have been an otherwise crummy day.

Glad you like the info. Great people. :)

The Cafe Office, ironically, is exactly for threads like this. Issues, comments, questions, feedback regarding the cafehusky.com website. That is why it has the subtitle 'site specific'. That was the best title I could come up with. Other titles, which escape me at the moment, seemed to imply either technical help on how to use computers in general or invited ongoing suggestions/feedback, or even 'announcements'. All of which I really did not want to emphasize. There are a lot of threads which are specific to this site in particular so that is supposed to be a place to have them without cluttering up the rest of the forum.

The Diner has the subtitle 'high class off topic', it is only viewable to the people that are logged in. It is the off topic area of Cafe Husky where people can discuss things that have nothing to do with bikes, or the life style at all. Other places on the internet sometimes call it 'off topic'. The intent was for more of a place to share personal or family matters, which is why people need to be logged in to see it - so pictures of peoples kids don't wind up archived in google and other search engines. I use it occasionally to put up emails received from people from other countries telling me I have won the lottery there aka get rich schemes... because I need to vent occasionally. If you dig through that forum you may be surprised what some of the topics are.

How this forum is set up, like everything else in life, is a compromise. It certainly isn't perfect, and is constantly being re-evaluated.

A general statement from my perspective. I really wish the bike specific forums were used less and this general forum was used more. The intent is that people only use the bike specific forums for the hard core technical information about the bikes themselves, as oppose to general discussions. The reason for that: the intent is for people that visit this site years from now to be able to know where to search for that information without having to wade through the things that would not apply to them. "How much is my 4st bike worth?" definitely is 4st specific, but I'm not sure it will be of interest in 5 years... at least not as important as "how to change the fork seals".

My guess is that may be where some of the confusion is coming from, and in theory some threads should be moved to the General (Main) forum or other places. But the reality is I want cafe husky to be as friendly as possible, and there are so many posts/threads I can barely keep up with the ones specific to this site.

one thing that would be nice...is in the 2st 4 st lefties area to list them down so you can see if there was a post in the area I watch...

maybe you need a few moderators that can help weed stuff out and to the proper area....

While not a perfect solution try clicking on "Husqvarna Bikes Bikes & Accessories" in the red(ish) bar. That will expand the list so each subforum is listed vertically.

I've been working on the other issue, how to keep things organized/moving threads, for a while now. There are no perfect solutions but there are better solutions that I'm working on. And that is one of the reasons I don't get to read the forum much anymore.

I really enjoy this site. Right now I have an hour before work & drinking a cup of coffee [no pun intended], & can find no better way to relax. I think it can be a simple site for simple people, a techical site for the mechanically inclined & even a more complexed site for people that enjoy that sort of thing. Although I can't find the time to visit every subject, I can pick & choose what I want.[even if it doesn't pertain to motocycles]. If a couple of days goes by w/o visiting I feel like something is missing. [Sorta like not riding for a couple weeks]. If a person visits enough, I think this site becomes a little like family with all sorts of personallities that become so familiar that you almost know what comment they are going to bring to the table. Pick a subject, sit back & enjoy it!

It is a nice easy site to NAV around in .... I'd leave it alone unless you just have nothing better to do or you think can get some measurable improvements in areas that you deem necessary ...
