I hope the re-torque fixes you up. When winter hits that could be a good time for the 530 kit. :D

Good luck here and maybe the re-torque will work ... The gasket was not all blown out looking so maybe you have a better than average chance here ...

I'd recommend moving to a warmer climate before the snow falls :)

hi dan i might be way off base here but my brother has a 530 ktm which had exactly the same problem e start wouldnt start the bike but the kickstarter does turns out it was the torque limiter the starter motor sounded like it was turning over the motor but in actual fact it was not turning it over fast enough

My 08 TXC250 has a hard time starting in gear with the estart ... the clutch is dragging too much and the engine will not start sometimes ... Move it to neutral and it fires off with the estart 99% of the time with only 1-3 seconds on the button ...

Never any backfires but in the case where I use the kicker, it normally fires 1st kick ... I really like my bike ;)

On the up side I got the SAMCO hoses for the bike.

These things are great and very well made.

Here is a sample of the cross section of the hoses:

    These things are 5 Ply.

Some pics of them on the bike:

That is some heavy duty hoses! How many ply are the stockers? Bike looks good.

It does make the bike look smart. I have some on mine too.
But I really haven't heard of a hose failure with the stock hoses. Well maybe just on the cross over. That's the one that should be changed.

I went to the Samco website and they don't show any hoses available for bikes after 2006. Is there any significant changes or would I just have to do some trimming?

Not sure. Got mine on e-bay. They are for an 09 and fit just fine.

Any ideas on why the bike won't start w/ the e-start (it turns over, but just wont fire), but fires up when kicked?

    Help!

check the polarity on starter motor did happen to someone here if i recall wire were a$$ backward and the starter was spinning reverse.

Have not touched the battery. The bike started fine prior to re-torquing the head.

Here is what I thought it could be and have triple checked:

    1-Cam Timing:
2- Valve clearance: Checked, all valves are a bit on the loose side.
3- Auto Decompressor: this is the item I'm not sure of, but it seems to be functional. It pivots back and forth freely and is not stuck. I even made sure the Exh, cam was seated to the left to make sure the AD was contacting the valve rocker.

What really baffles me is that when kick started it fires up and runs fine.

The only other thing I have noticed is that it is idling lower (1400-1500 RP) vs the 1700-1800 i had it set at before. Even turning the idle adjuster screw all the way in the idle will not go above 1500RPM.

I might have found the issue!

Took the coil off and was checking resistances and noticed that the spark plug cap was not giving the proper reading so I took it apart and found that the resistor that connects to the spark plug was cracked.

I'm hoping that this is the issue. When using the e-start the engine might not have turned over fast enough to provide a good spark. When kicking the bike one manages to turn the bike over faster producing more current which was able to overcome the poor conductivity produced by the resistor.

In fact after reassembling the bike after fiddling w/ the spark plug cap I can no longer kick start it.

Ordered new parts so keep your fingers crossed!

Sweet! Where is this resistor? Any pics of this?

inside the spark plug cap- common among all bikes atv's etc... is a 5Kohm resistor incorporated within the cap. Purpose is to decrease possible interfierence from radio frequencies.

Wouldn't that be to decrease interference to radio frequencies ?
