FE/FC Looking for some FE501 Feedback

I want to know how the 501 is in really tight singletrack? I want a "do it all bike" something I can i can hit tight singletrack one weekend yet next weekend load up with giant loop bags and go on a duel sport ride too. My dealer said the new generation husabergs have been totally problem free so I am sure reliability is a non issue.

Well for me, what you describe is how I use this bike and my past 310. The 310 didn't like the dual sport part much with my large stature sitting atop it but the 501 fits the bill much better for me. I took an advanced off road riding class Saturday and spent the day riding tight technical stuff with tons of rooted, wooded hill climbs and the 501 was every bit as good as the 310 for me. It's nice to be able to loft the front tire at will with this bike. The 310 wouldn't do that with me on it.

For those in Aus check the terminals that go onto the headlight. My mates 2013 berg 501 had the terminals rub on the steering neck and blow the fuse for all the lights. Took us a while to figure that one out. Not sure if the Husky 501 has the same issue.

First post I have 200kms on the new girl. Absolutely fantastic bike coming from a 2012 ktm 350 excf the bike just oozes power. Doesn't feel heavier then the 350 while riding the only thing i've noticed is that it has a massive speed wobble when cruising along, hopefully a damper fixes this?

Yes my front wheel is very out of balance so I feel a heavy pulse on tarmac. Off road I've hit 90 mph no problem. When I installed my sub mount I increased the head bearing torque to act as a cheater stabilizer. Food for thought.

It also runs quite hot especially on the right side where the fan is? And the plastic on that side has gone a brownish colour around the fan

Hey reveille, have you checked the fuel range on the stock tank? I'm curious of the range for dual sport rides.

The FE501 runs really hot, exhaust wrap/cover shield is advisable, XF coolant as always. Also look into reflective taping the under side of the fuel tank. If you run rear bags, such as giant loop which are great, you will need a upper muffler heat shield. That bike is a blast to ride. I would powercommander it up too since it lacks that throttle snap the 511 has, easily tunable with an accel pump.

What map are you running on your FE501s and have the ECUs been re-flashed recently to ensure everything is current?

I'll be picking mine up tomorrow and when I asked the dealer about this he indicated he would ensure the euro map was loaded on and that it was re-flashed for most current mapping.

This make sense?

Also, any suggestions on which brand of components to utilize for street legal requirements (horn, keyed ignition, brake light switch ect..?

Considering mounting a 4.1 gl acerbis soon to accommodate my ride environment. What type of mpg are you guys getting with your 501s?

I like the 4.1 gallon tank, but you will need to wrap the head pipe. Not sure which maps we have installed, more than likely the EU map. We sell the ignition switches, but I'd add XF and wrap the pipe before you added it. We use double take mirrors and tuff lights that we carry in stock. You can ask Ty about the switches, etc. Oil needs to be swapped asap with SS filter to prevent crushing,.

Congrats I used the sicass rear brake light switch, it is a plug and play switch and is $30 or so. No key on mine since I don't ride around town on it. If you can get the Euro loaded for free go for it. The stock mapping is lean and is the KTM 500xcw green sticker mapping. Mine runs really lean and hot with the stock mapping but I'm sticking with it for a while until it's got around 20 hours or so then I'll make a decision. Fuel economy seems close to 45=50 mpg so far but I've been running mainly off road during breakin. I can't wait to see pictures of the bigger tank mounted. Please post some when you can.

Tinken,, I just read your recent post about 0-40 mobile 1 and the SS filter too.

I will definitely require a larger tank. My friends that have 500 excs have been getting similar mpg.. 45/50.

Spoke to a knowledgeable source at Cyclebuy today and he indicated the only mod necessary would be to trim the front end of the seat pan slightly to fit the larger 4.1 or 5.3 acerbis tanks intended for the late model KTMs..

I wonder just how much seat pan trimming is needed for the Acerbis and if it's just the pan or the cover too?

I dont remember them trimming at all, could be wrong though..

I did some further research and the pan and cover need to be trimmed from pointed at the end to rounded at the end to fit down flush in the tank recess.

That is what I had found also. I figured that I'd mark my seat pan to the correct dimension and then
have Seat Concepts install a new pad and cover after doing the minor trimming. Hopefully they are
acceptable to this minor modification.

I also thought about purchasing a KTM 500 seat pan for recovering but learned that the rear attachment points differ. At least this is what Cyclebuy told me during our discussion of the tank fitment.
