Yes the 501 uses 2 side mounting bolts like the Husaberg VS the KTM that uses a single bolt through the rear fender. Pans are different. Husaberg/Husky are the same and KTM is different.

Those two wide bolts are a pita sometimes. Maybe seat concepts can make you a seat?

Nice Fast1! I figured you have been missing your TE 510. I look forward to your comparison between the two.

Can you explain this in further detail? Especially about the oil filter crushing.
I assume this pertains to the KTM 500 as well, right?

    thanks

Thick oil and high RPM are collapsing filters and not allowing enough flow. In my conversations with Tinken it seems he believes (and he has a lot more real life hands on engine experience than I do) that oil flow in all these modern 4 strokes is imperative. Oil is sprayed all over through little orifices in these motors and flow is very important. The thinner oils flow a LOT more. And it is a misnomer that thicker oils provide more protection and lubrication. Basically it sounds like thinner oils and high flowing SS filters are the go on all modern 4 strokes. I personally believe in this, makes a lot of sense and have converest to thinner oil and high flow SS filter.

    - It sure is nice having feedback from race teams like ZipTy that thrash bikes harder than we do and can report issues so we can address them up front.

Is it related to the Micron screen size of the oem filter vs an aftermarket stainless steel or more to do with the oil viscosity rating

It's both because I have heard of stainless steel filters crushed as well.

Easy on the break in on these or you will be experiencing the $500 piston. No riding it like you stole it. ;) Oh and btw, that's the bike of the year. :D

Awesome! Enjoy it. I love mine. Just finished washing mine after riding in the mud last night. I have 5.5 hours now so its still breaking in. Mine runs so hot the decal on the right radiator shroud is melting/peeling off. I have been riding tight woods exclusively with very little open stuff. When riding open areas I don't feel the heat. I sure hope this thing chills down after 10 hours...

The dealer re-flashed my ECU and loaded on the Euro "unrestricted" map.

During the first hour of very easy dirt road riding I did not experience any abnormal heat issues. My break-in basically consists of going up through the gears to about 50 mph (with stock gearing) and then slowing down with engine breaking from 6th through 1st. I usually do this repetatively for the initial break in.

Reveille, Have you thought about loading on a richer "euro" fuel map? I'd hate to have an orange brother and be faced with a locked ECU.

I think I'll really enjoy this bike and could see it being the Enduro bike of the year.

Now I just am waiting for my accessories to show up...

None of the local dealers can do the ECU flash. I'd need to go to Hall's which is a 2 hour drive or ship my ECU to Munn's racing in Texas and pay $125 plus insured shipping. I may just do that this coming week and be done with it. I don't want to literally melt my bike one part at a time...

I thought I read that Halls would do it for $50.. You may want to give them a call.

Why not just buy a JD tuner instead of flashing the ECU?

    That 501 looks sweet !

I thought the dealer mentioned that the "Euro" mapping only changed the fuel metering (increased) and did not impact any timing.

The timing could be altered with the handlebar mounted "mode" selecter.

    Is this not true?

I did call Hall's. $125 to reflash and another $100 for a bar mounted switch. Not sure who posted the $50 but they must know someone personally and did it off the books or something.
