Here it is roughed in. Broke my smaller mill. So had to do the H lil bigger.
Guess that happens when you rush too fast.

Trying to do some tedious stuff to get hang of machine.

Hardest part was using wench, then moving everything in place with pry bars and pipe.

    Here is rough proto type.

Going to beef up pivot joint some.

Going to get a pointed mill to thin down the H in the center.

    But you get the concept.

The final one will go on the 83 Cr 250 and tip gets anodized blue.

    Thanx OBD!

Was only going to do one but now might do some for the other bikes.

 Maybe some hidden checkering on the underside. Or should I say knurling?

Top is knurled and bottom was as well. But machined into shape on bottom and sides removed it.
But I can cut some grooves in bottom. Good point!

So what did you get for a mill? CNC or manual. I have a line on a Bridgeport J head that I will be picking up after my truck is finished

I went with new Smithy combo unit.

I was going to get everything seperate used. By the time I started chasing down parts/pieces missing, thought heck with it. Then ran into stuff 3 phase electric. Then looked at space to put it all. Then thought what is my limit on size of stuff to machine for bike stuff?
I have not ruled out getting a CNC machine down the road?
All my stuff is manual because I was concerned about digital reading stuff going bad.
So far! Like it and think it works perfect for me and what I will be doing. I do have some adjustments here and there to tighten things up. I'm not going to do boring cylinders, but I did buy all the stuff. Mainly, just boring stuff and cutting internal grooves for o rings etc...
Still have a wish list of items to look for: rotating mill table, face plate, step blocks, v blocks, etc...
I have not realized all the stuff that I have forgotten over the years, but it is coming back.
Biggest thing is I need to have patience!
Bridgeport is nice if you can snag it!
What is sad is that all this stuff, is becoming china farmed out!
Old barn beams were bowing tho! Wasn't sure I could get moved into position rolling on pipe, crow bars etc....
However, I either messed back of my knee up or tore all muscles in back of my calf!!!
Almost, thought of just putting layer of crushed ice down and then when machine was in place. Just letting it melt into the spot! That's how I set/move big granite monuments/mausoleum buildings. Ice and cranes. Ice lil more difficult in winter!

    Here you go Jim!

You got a great one there. The J heads with the cast door on the side of the main casting has amongst the best machine iron that was ever available. Treasure that baby! My old Series II NC ran better at 35 degrees than it did in warmer seasons. You just need to put them under a tent when the humidity condenses and it would look like you had a rain storm in your building. Save desiccant packs to put in a tray on your table when covered. The machine I will be getting has a 32" table but considering the guy treasures my advice he is giving to me. I just have to move it.

Here is my 83 250 gas cap I made today.
Eventually, I will have it blue anodized.
But you can see what it looks like.
