that is weird HuskyDude, I've got the same view in my mirrors......... Woodsy; the left one is the HDB setup, you can get it from Motosportz -->
Ya the first one I took was just a reflection of my belt bucket. Not very tasteful I like that one a lot better.
These are quite elegant, vib. is not a problem, cheap at about $8 bucks, and every bike shop has em. And they actually work as a rear view mirror.:
Bar End mounted mirrors WoodsChick, I've got CRG Lanesplitters mounted with RinoMoto's specially grooved bar ends. Don't know if they could be adapted to work w/handguards - I don't have any on my bike. Link for cheapest CRGs I could find: http://www.tobefast.com/crg-billet-bar-end-mirror-pr-151.html Link to RhinoMoto: http://www.e-securedsite.com/RHINOMOTO/store/myProducts.cfm Pic installed on my '08 610SM:
No real issues. I fold them in for general off-road and take them off and stick 'em in my pockets for narrow single track. They come off with a single small allen wrench. I've tried lots of different kinds of bike mirrors over the years... "Third Eye" and a few others. Mirrycle mirrors are the most well made and durable so far. The best part is that with them mounted on the handguards, your rearward view is excellent... no shoulders. Here's another view mounted directly to the handguard bolts on a set of Zeta handguards. And a view from a cropped shot with them folded in. C
I got these from henri on adv HB7 via this thread They were kind of expensive (about $140) I had to pay CA tax on them too. They look nice on the bike but if I were to do it over I'd get the round lollipop ones in the longer length and just use the stock perches. I asked for bar mounts cus I hate the idea of breaking the perch, but I think I'm over it. They are too nice for a dirt bike. they are only about $60 and work great. Probably a little lighter too.
These work pretty good, you look back under your arm, might need to lean a bit to see but they wont snap off in a tip over www.dual-star.com/index2/Equipment/adjustable_mirror1.htm
I "ordered" a set of those in March. In May I picked up a used set elsewhere, since I could never get a hold of dual-star again despite many calls that went straight to their full voice-mail system. I suppose they are still "on order"
I'm loving the HDB setup. I've got them on the 610 and the 525 now.... and in the city I can see behind me better then most of the roadbikes I've had.
I "got lucky" and they had them when I ordered them a few years ago. Even in the tucked away position I kept breaking them. And of course the replacements were "backordered". I found that the local REI and bicycle shops had the exact mirror body in the form of a bar end mount with a longer bolt post. So I cut it to length and it worked fine, and cost less. The only trick if you don't have the DualStar mount is fabing something up to hose clamp it to your bar. I would think that an "L" bracket of some sort clamped on should do the trick as good as what they give you. Now that I'm running the HDB setup that mirror mount style is the second best I've used. I ran them for a couple of years and the only downside was the sideways look when the cop almost decided to write me a ticket for them............. they work pretty damn good too, and cheap.
I really do think those are the best handguard set-up on the market... for DS'ers that need a good, easy to move from harms way, set of mirrors. If I didn't already own four sets of perfectly good handguards and was in the market, I'd pay the small premium to get the HDB kit. I've spoken to the owner in past months. he's working on a mirror mount kit so that owners of the more popular handguards can have a well thought out mirror design. The mirror is a ball and socket mount... not easily adapted, so a specialized mount is a prerequisite. C
I recently installed the HDB hand guards and mirrors. Easy install. Very very well made. The mirrors work but take some getting used to - "objects may be closer than they appear" doesn't quite cover it. Most of all, I love the unobstructed view ahead. I want to see as little bike as possible when seated.
I agree and same situation for me as well. For a solid setup preferred the Fastway guards that mount to their top clamp. They are super strong and never come loose, but they have no setup for mirrors like the HDB's. I now wish I would have got set of them. I just took the Fastways off my KTM to do a sub-mount damper and replaced them with Cycra's. I should have taken the Cycra's off my 610 and got the HDB's for the Husky. That eases my pain. I may switch guards anyway. I hate the big folding lollipop mirrors I have now when hitting the trail.
Scroll up to see my Mirrycle mirrors... small, an excellent view behind, reasonably sturdy, semi-easy off and on. Not as convienent or as "designed in" as the HDB mirrors, but not bad.
Yeah I was checking those out. Different brand name, but I actually have one of the exact same mirrors mounted on all of the family's bicycles. They are great and very inexpensive. They'd be perfect if you could swing them out of the way on the fly.
I can and do... not totally out of the way, but inwards, as in facing each other and "bladed" to the bike. Or, they can be removed in under a minute. C
I see that. That's not a bad idea. Even if a tree takes one off it's a cheap loss. We have lots of trees. I'm swinging by the bike shop.
