If you get the left peg on the tarmac, you're doing pretty bloody well in my book! I like my e09d, but don't think I trust em that much Enjoy!
Still don't trust them that much, just get a bit carried away riding on the range near home, had a lot of trust in the 606's l used to run on my XR, in the dry, scrape pegs and boots all day on them.
Ok, l have about 1000km on the e09's now and love them to death, still a bit hesitant in the wet, great on the road and dirt, dig well on soft sand but will have to let the pressure down a bit on the front as it wants to turn in all the time, almost like there is way to much weight over the front.
My e09d's have 2000km of use now. On the bitumen I'm as happy as I have been with any road tyre for dry weather performance and grip. Haven't ridden them in the rain so can't really comment. They have barely started to wear at all. I'm very happy with their longevity to date.
cool thanks i'll have to go see mat. I did finish making it used it for a bit,,, then ideas started coming up on how i could make it better. well its off the bike waiting for the up grades and it wasn't very good if you had some on the back = very sore bum. p.s. today it just ticked over 1 year rego.. $434 for a whole year (2 seats)
Well l done about 4500km on the E09's, love them to bits, hold on tight on the road and dig like buggery in the dirt. I am now due for another set and am looking at the E07's this time... will see how these go.
Dunlop D605 on the front, this tyre is amazing!, it settled the front end down on gravel by a serious amount compared to the D606 and I wont talk about the Metzler Sahara on gravel, yuk. On-road its locked in...everything I wanted. Will be loading the rear with the same (D605) shortly.
I used to run the 606's on my XR600 and had absolute fair in them. Sorta wish they did them in my size.
Can't agree more the e-09 is the best tyre for the rear I've had. Got 10500km out of mine. Went to Shinko 804 805 and couldn't wait to go back to the Mitas. Gave the Shinko 3000k's but the rear was just crap. Front was ok so just changed the rear. Couldn't beleave that I could get great lean angles with the 09 but the 804 would let me down. Cheers Greg.
Has anyone experienced the Dunlop Trailmax rear? http://www.dunlop.eu/dunlop_euen/mc/tyres/on_off_road/Trailmax.jsp
The 606's are a great tire, all around, but wear is fast, especially on a XR600, l got about twice the milage out of the E09's. It is hard to compare as l had them on two different bikes....l do a lot of the same type of riding on the TR as l did on the XR, and l don't think the 606's would last as long on the TR as they did on the XR. I do a lot of range work on the bikes as l live in Cairns, and we have a few of them. l also, ride the bike to work everyday. I would rate the onroad performance about the same and the offroad, l think the 606's are a bit better then E09's, not much tho. Not much help l know, but it is very hard to pick between them. I would go the E09's again if l did more offroad then l do now, purely because of the milage that l get out of them.
I've run a D606 and got 6000k and was impressed, its just the amount of tread void for road thats a worry. I've just cut out a TKX80, it was the most expensive tyre I've run, only did 4000k and had average grip on gravel.
I ride fairly aggressively, so l don't get the same milage as most. With the 606's on the XR600, l used to scrape both pegs hammering up the Gillies range , had absolute faith in the 606's not to let go, unless it was raining lol.. Was very unsure about the E09's at first and started off very steady, was still learning the bike, the Strada handles very different to the XR, but was soon scraping pegs going up the Gillies.. Both tires have very large voids when you have them cranked right over, but didn't notice any walking on the knobs with either.
Scraping pegs or your boots?...I leaned my bike over to see the lean angel and if it your pegs your the man!, you wont catch me more in the horizontal plane more than the vertical!!
When you're sitting on the bike, the suspension is compressed, and when you are pushing through a corner, the suspension compresses more, so just tipping the bike over with uncompressed suspension you're going to need more lean to get the peg onto the ground then you will on the road.
