  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

What is the 165 like as a Motocross engine. As I ride MX tracks a lot and have one in my back yard.

It's very good. I bought a WR165 a few weeks ago, and spent Wednesday afternoon on the MX track with it. It's better than I had expected, based on what I've read.

Get the cr ignition and leave it as a 144 for mx.
I think it would be expensive to buy a complete CR ignition. I have not fitted the 144 kit yet. I want to learn how to ride it as a 125 first and put some hours on it then fit the 144 kit. With the possibility of using the 125 parts to send away for the 165 kit. To fit sometime well into the future. (Undecided at the moment.) I am enjoying it as a 125 so far.

The WB165 with the 200 pipe makes an awesome MX bike IMHO. I'm 54 and it makes up for my mistakes; a little help if you will :D. Love the extra TQ out of the turns :applause:.

Get a top end pipe and it will make a fantastic MX engine. Pulls hard out of the corners and way more power to clear jumps. Brandons semi high comp 165 is a freaking rocket and makes 250F's seem slow.

I just got the word that a 2s 165 would indeed run with 250 4s. I can well imagine it would be a smokeathon against those pigs with Walts kit. 150cc is the limit for a strictly 125 class.

A WB165 kit with a top end pipe setup for slightly more compression is a super fast machine. Not fast for a 125 just stinking fast. Brandon's is a handful in the woods. Setup like this for Mx I think you would have zero issue hanging with if not destroying 250f's

Hi Head,
We have two XC's here a XC 125 with a 165 kit and 144 kitted as standard Xc that was post GFC stock that PFG bought in and sold at very good prices.

Make sure before you pretty much do any riding that you take everything apart and grease everything, that is swingarm bearings, control linkage, head stem, and even the axle shafts (thin smear of grease and well oiled), you will most likely also need the front axle nut changed from the large allen key. Just a note, the 2010 WR's came with a softer spring than the XC's (o.42 kg cf to 0.44 kg) and rear's are the same at 5.0kg. We have had ours all revalved with new seals (SKF's) so unsure what yours is sprung like.

They are a brilliant little bike, and so fun to ride (coming from a 250 EXC KTM).

I have revalved the forks to a MX spec single stack and it is way better for the riding I do. How does your 144 compare to the 165? I am really enjoying mine as a 125 so far but I think it will be awesome when I fit the 144 kit. Thanks for the tip on greasing every thing, I usually do it pretty soon after buying bike anyway. Will do it sooner than later though. I am just about to try a 52 rear sprocket this weekend.

The stock Marzocchi 50mm forks on the 150 xc I found to be harsh, with a big mid stroke spike. The front end would never settle into a rut or into turns.
Had them revalved and it was a big difference, although I've since lost 10kg and perhaps they are a little too firm for my weight now.

Definitely do the bearings!! This is one thing I neglected to do as my previous two bikes, VOR/TM both came loaded with grease.
Husky must seriously skimp on grease, and worse then that the shop that charges you $$$$ for pre-delivery setup must also neglect to ensure the bearings have a good amount of grease.

52 sprocket, be interesting to hear how this goes.
I find in tight single track with stock gearing, you can't use third properly and 2nd ends up revving out too much.
I was thinking either a smaller back sprocket to give it some extra legs to hold 2nd longer, or go the 52 to make 3rd more useable. Only issue would be open trails and fire trails would suck with a 52.

52 sprocket on a track will do fine also on a technical trail, loose sand or wet clay, open stretches not ideally

to be really competitive on open terrain, change bike

Took bike out on weekend to Louee MX complex, fitted the 52 rear and tried a 6CHY17-62 needle #5 slide #25 pilot. Bike was great, had a heap of fun. I think the secret to the keeping it in the power is clutch, clutch and more clutch. Was able to get on the power way earlier than I am used to. Later braking also, this bike has such a strong brake as well. Not sorry I bought it.

2nd from bottom = 4th clip. With that 17-62 needle #4, you have ended exactly where I want to be but I will be using the 17-61 clip 3 both = (16-62 clip 3.5) . Have now been told after a two week wait none were in the country so waiting another week for it :banghead: .
