That shock revalve is happening now. Lectron carb installed and running well. The fun continues. Fantastic bike IMHO.

Just got done testing the Lectron carb. It is good stuff. Read here on that

Another major upgrade and the last big thing I wanted to address on this bike after I did the gold valves in the fork was the harsh feeling shock. It worked OK but kicked me around some and just had an overall not great feeling. To be expected from a 10 year old 125 with a stock ridden by a 200 pound off roader. My buddy Scott who is a A class fast guy always uses mutual friend Daves service. Dave is also a local FAST guy, like real fast. He works through TBT suspensions and uses their wealth of knowledge and experience plus his local knowledge of what we ride. In the past I have used WER, LTR, House of Horsepower, ProMotion, Race tech and a few others. All good experiences there. The reason I went with Dave this time is I have ridden with Dave and like him, he is a good guy and friend, is very fast, rides the same areas I do and the big one is I have ridden Scotts bikes and loved them. What Dave does to Scotts bikes that made me try him is make them trailbike plush AND race bike controlled. That to me is a really hard thing to do. Some guys get the trailbike plush thing perfect (LTR) and some do race setups well (ProMotion and house of HP).

So I send my shock to him and he revalves and resprings it and I pick it up on my way to go riding with my bike half apart. After searching for some snowless trail We find some and we are off. I could literally tell in 200 feet is was FAR better. First off before you felt everything on the trail. Not horrible but you feel it. Now your floating along above everything. Nice. Get to the first intersection and I'm already ranting to Scott. About 6 miles in I am loving the suppleness yet controlled feeling I really liked on Scotts bikes (two YZ250's, YZ450, TXC450, brand new WR450 getting done now). I thought I knew better and went slightly stiffer on the low and high speed and rebound. These changes made it less supple but slightly more controlled. I moved the compression clickers back to where it was setup and left it for the rest of the day, near perfect for me. Flows over the chop so nice, really controlled on the log crossings and rough trail, sucks up whoop sections well, handles nice in the tight stuff. The two clicks stiffer rebound made the back less active which I think I preferred. I'm having a hard time complaining about anything it does and I like to complain about suspension :>) My gold valves forks that felt really good because they were so much better than the rear now feel just on par or slightly lagging behind the rear performance. I look forward to more playing with the shock and getting the last 5% out of it. I did not set the sag and could have bolted this on and gone trail riding or racing. The good thing about riding with friends like Scott and Dave is you are the slow guy in the group and need to be on your toes. This bike is fitting me so well right now that I have been in the zone. Daves work on my shock completed the puzzle. The bike is planted and agile. The motor is ridiculously good making responsive squiry do it all power that is miles wide and flexible yet responsive and fast. Hows that for a freaking sentence :>) It also is not overly powerful which I love. 250's feel bulky and a handful in comparison. My 165 feels nimble and responsive. Can poke around and trail ride, hill climb and bash trail or rip a new hole. You choose. Massaging bikes into what works for you is FUN. I think it is funny I ended up taking a 10 year old bike to levels most would never consider and I started with a inexpensive somewhat abused craigslist junker. That process is fun for me and I really have always liked the 04 CR125 for some reason. Well built, slim, fast, reliable. This has been fun.

Next up. JD TMxx carb, new clutch and maybe a hydro clutch conversion.

i've been looked at the rekluse clutch and I don't think they would work on a motorcross circuit say on whoops/rollers, fast corners when its required to slip the clutch to keep the bike in the meat of the powerband. For example, the clutch would be engaged say at the start of a whoop/roller section, but what would happen when its required to work the clutch to lift the front wheel on each roller using the clutch? On fast corners slipping the clutch to get drive out of a corner do these rekluse clutches work in these situatons? The only benefit i'm reading is that prevent the bike from stalling perhaps i'm missing something?

it is really good for picking your way up nastly slick hills and technical stuff. it fans the clutch nice and you use your throttle to control it. But yes, you loose some clutch engagement accuracy and control. I used to use them but have not for years. I like them but miss the control the clutch gives you. On 125's they take to much away for me. Softens the bottom end to some degree.

I have the EXP on my 08CR WB165 and it's not really needed on that bike for sure but I love it. I'm a lot better at MX than I am the woods and thats where the EXP helps me. On the MX track the 165 has so much pull I don't need to slip the clutch like I did in 125 trim but I still can. You do lose some feel with the EXP but with practice it's not bad and actually fun. I do feel it helps put the power down a little smoother and I can really pull out of a corner with it. If I just rode on a MX track in 125 trim I wouldn't get/use an autoclutch. I'm an old fart now and my 165 is my do it all bike, MX, trails, unmarked woods, and even following my grandkids so it's a big help and a welcome tool.

I find that on my 165 that I rarely use the clutch under normal cornering and hill climbing. It just keeps pulling. SOoooooooooooooo......................Who needs an autoclutch !

Me :D. Don't really need an autoclutch just want one; I have two hands. I look at it this way, we don't need these new facny carbs, flex bars, etc........the autoclutch is just another add-on for your bike that makes thing easier and IMO better. I kinda like things that make other things mo-better :applause:.

I sampled Walts 165 at the NW gathering. He has the auto clutch and LHRB. Pure riding bliss !

Yeah Russ my 08 CR WB165 is so freeking good I don't know what else I could do to make it better. I Have the EXP, FMF 200 KTM pipe, Flex bars, suspension re-valved, new plastics, new grafix, new tires, 36mm SmartCarb, and of course the WB165.

Add a LHRB and give yourself the time to learn it and it will add a whole new level of fun. Most guys don't give the LHRB enough time. It works really well on these less torquey bikes. When I was riding Walts. I could stay 3/4ths on the throttle and steer using the LHRB going into corners. The LHRB combined with the auto clutch is the ultimate in control. Send some photo's

I may have to give the LHRB a try. Right now I find myself turning on the rear in the woods as the turns seem to come up a lot quicker with the addition of a SmartCarb. On the send "some photos" I've never been able to post pics; my computer skills are very limited  . I can email them if anybody cares to post them up.
