Hi boys and girls! It's time to play NAME THAT CRUD! It isn't a one part question.

In order to win (win nuthin), you have to be able to identify what it is, why it's crud, and where it came from. Good luck!:D
The only clue I'll give you is that it's in a general discussion so that you won't get any specific clue.

Okay, I'll give you a clue. It has to do with a motorcycle (but not a pumpkin colored one).

Did someone mix types of antifreeze and make the ultimate crudiator fluid?

I don't know about that. But it is radiator coolant that came out of my NEW WR300. I checked it when the bike came home the first day and it looked pale and clear. Today, when I took a peek there was rusty residue all around the inside of the radiator neck just under the cap, and the fluid looked dark and opaque. This prompted me to empty the fluid which gushed out totally rust colored. It took flushing the system ten times with fresh water before the water came out of the water pump housing clear. I replaced the liquid rust with some fresh Hondaline coolant.

I have never seen coolant come out of any motorcycle that looked like that. The only coolant that I have ever seen that looked like that was the coolant that came out of our old 1961 Plymouth Fury when it boiled over in the desert.

I've seen coolant come out of cars that looked just like that when Dexcool was mixed with the green stuff like the original Prestone. If it's left in there very long it looks like mud from the bottom of a pond. http://www.google.com/search?q=dexc..._POHM2AXzkIn_Cw&ved=0CC0QsAQ&biw=1678&bih=933 There is some new extended life antifreeze made now that is compatible with everything so I started using that.

Some of those pictures look a lot like what I saw. Maybe it got mixed somewhere along the line, but now it's all one type for sure. And that type will mix with everything that I could get at my local motorcycle shops.

It looks just like mine did in a new TE449.
Just surface rust from sitting in shippment, after we put some miles on them it mixes in with the coolant.
Could also be a preservative oil they use on the shiny internal parts after the leak checks are done.
Flushed mine too and never looked back.

I was gonna say, looks like the radiator water I used to see in my '64 Dodge and '71 Chevy van.

I suppose I should look at the water in my bikes sometime.... :D

Kinda like all disc brakes will do after sitting for a while? That's odd that it's happened in a motor. Wouldn't only the portion that's exposed to air rust? I would think that portion would be aluminum. The engine parts are where the steel is and all of that would be below the fluid line. confused how this happened.

rust from what?,,,isnt everything purty much Al alloy and plastic/ruber silly-cone? Its gotta be in the mix, no? I can only think of the screw that holds the impellar on as a ferrous metal fastener in the rad system.
it sure is ugly looking, but that 300 she is a beauty!!!

That's what I thought. There's almost nothing that could rust in the system. From the amount of glop that was in the coolant, you would expect to see something rusted completely out if it were actually rust. Must be Dexcool gone wild.

hey did your SDAR ride crew see my usual suspects out there? They were out on the trails as well when you guys were. I was on parent visting hiatus, but need to back in the saddle this weekend and preparing for the 28th xc event. Hope the 300 honey is the right stuff for ya! Its a cool machine.

There were a few group out there. We didn't encounter too many people out on the trail. There was a group of Hondas way out in the back, and we picked up some pumpkin rider who was sort of lost. He rode back with our group.

The 300 is everything I would want in a ride except for being too tall, but that's going to happen with anything worth riding. Got my new no-flex clutch cable on there so the clutch works properly, some new hand guards, and I got my freshly revalved Precision Concepts boingers working out the terrain. The bike is jetted close enough, and I can usually manage to get it started in two or three kicks....I'd say everything is hunky dory, especially now that I have some good coolant in it.
