Today @ Johnson Valley - Ricky Brabec - Getting chili for the first national of the year. Stoked to be out here and ready to race. Huge thanks to bob & Diane bell at #precisionconcepts for getting me out here as well as the rest of my sponsors #sidi, #Oneal, #ZLT, #hammernutrition, #FMF, #A'ME grips, #THR & #DT1, couldn't do it without you! Thanks guys you rock!
I've been sitting here looking down at the Desert MC race knowing it will be the last time a race here will ever take place. As I watch the youth and peewee racers get their trophies for an awesome morning race, it makes me so sad to think they will never experience the beauty of this area - ever again. To those of us who have enjoyed this area all our lives, we know all of the canyons, mountains, valleys and views that go on as far as the eye can see that we will never experience again. It just makes me sick inside. These families and racers who have made it a tradition to come here, will lose this tradition forever! I'm trying to stay up here as long as I can because I know I will never enjoy this view - ever again! Thanks 29 Palms base, I hope the closure of this area to the public was worth all the sadness and heartbreak this has caused! -Tracy Windsor
Oh look, KN won a race! Seriously, great vid. Now that the area will be closed off by Uncle Sam and his ever-expanding moral killing endeavors, is there any area close that's similar? I do realize it won't be the same. BTW, D38 is fighting a huge battle to keep its spot open right now.
Argubright had a mechanical issue at the start and then finished in 11th. He was disqualified though because he swapped bikes. Rough start but I think he'll be on the podium next time
This was the hardest National or for a fact the hardest course I ever road. Except maybe King of the Moto I loved every inch of it but it was tuff. since the one loopers had there own 40 mile course and the rest of us got 80 miles of tuff. I believe most people did not even make it to the remote gas stop at mile 40 is less then 5 hours so the second 40 miles part was then closed off to them. I had a desent start was running great and then at mile 20 must have hit something just a little to hard Bent the front rim and broke 2 spokes. At that point I was so afraid that the front wheel would break. I just rode the next 20 miles to the remote pit where we checked the front wheel and since my spare was back at the main pit I said lets just go for it and be carful. Well it lasted another 60 miles wobble wobble all the way. I finished 5th in class 68th overall That might sound bad but there were close to 400 guys on the line. Super big turn out since about half of what we just rode WE WILL NEVER RIDE AGAIN Thank You Uncle Sam. I got it all on film so some of the footage we will never see again. Unless you join the army and play bomp the land games It really is sad once it sets in just how much we lost I will work on posting it in the next few days As for the bike I swear it is just unbelievable how well it works I never fell I never had to kick start once I left the line it just works Then add in it looks like a new one. Left the line at 9.30 finished just before 3 so it made for a long day
You did awesome John, this course was very hard. More than 50 percent DNF. Ricky broke both front and rear brakes. It was an great day for me out in the field with Ty, Danny, Jake, Justin and the rest of team Husqvarna. It was good to see the caselli's there and speak with Nancy and Sara, Antti and crew.
Some amazing results regardless of the issues. They were posting a lot of videos on FB, those starts look cool on your vids but are even better with a video of the whole line. Great ride, can't wait for the video!
We had a drone fliming the start and around base camp a new view from a different angle Looking forward to seeing it
that top ad makes it look like the dude is jumping the line and running over a father and son to get a start - Funny related story. Buddy of mine had never raced, we did a off road race together and it started in about 6 rows of waves. I was in the second row he was in the 6th. Flag drops for the first line guys and they take off and I hear a commotion behind me look back to see my buddy pushing his way through 4 rows and wheeling off. I guess he thought we all went at once. Another buddy got a picture of it, was hilarious. He will never live that one down. We call him holeshot.
Now I'm.......wishing I did this one (hard course=slower course). Great ride to all, 1st Husky, Local SD talent Justin Morgan!! Sorry for Jakes break. Ajax/ John nice finish--again, this guy is Mr non DNF!! And man you looked good doin' it in the full factory BNG/BNG (Bold new graphics/bold new gear). More fotos please!! What happened to Sutherlin?? He was top 2 for a while. Nice win for Ivan P1 !! Nice double podium for the Beta guys, Justin Morrow P2, Nick Bur(n)son P3
The funny part was hearing afterwards how 160 guys passed him and he was like WTF? He was on a DRZ with a blown rear shock, was a funny day. He actually races my old 09 WR165 (and bought a new one too) and does really well out in St Louis.
Only took me 6 hours. But I stopped for a few injured racers and gave gas to 2 guys within 2 miles of the pits. Jake scared the hell out of me when he passed me. Never seen anyone go so fast in the rough stuff while racing. I'm glad the weather and veiws were so nice.
wow with every word that this was a very hard hi level terrain course.......the AMA D37 forum is lit up about how difficult it was out there, too difficult for many with complaints from racers. ( I regret not doing it now, I even had good game this weekend...dang it) John K you rock man. here prelim results y'all can check classes and oa etc etc http://www.moto-tally.com/nhha/results.aspx
