Looks like I've fallen for the old assumption trap. The instrument used to reset the ECU had to be logged onto a server somewhere and it took from 8.30am to 9.30am to have it ready for me when I turned up at 10.00. I assumed it was the MOSS. I paid $120.00 for something which seemed to work. It could be a parallel universe type thing. NorthnTerraTory, when it was hot and humid this summer my Strada felt as if it was fouling a plug at idle and other posts have mentioned their Huskys do not run as well in hot humid conditions. I've not noticed any drop in performance nor idle problems in dry conditions of +40 degrees C. I looked up the NGK web site which recommended .8mm gap (for other bikes) for the standard plug and the Manual for the TR650 warn against a gap over .6 mm as it might damage the ignition system. Your ignition system may be running at it's limit and the connections may need checking. That's a lot of maybes as I don't really have a clue. In my case, I pulled my plugs, looked at them, put them back in none the wiser, reconnected the coils went for a ride, and the plug fouling feeling was no more.
I forgot to mention, when I picked the bike up, after telling them they needed to reset the TPS they said "you were right, the TPS was set at 77%, but the instructions from Husky (or whoever it is these days) didn't say anything about resetting the TPS." I said something about Google and forums being more knowledgable than companies and workshops these days. I wonder how many people have had their bikes derestricted, only to be disappointed with the results. When I first mentioned the lack of power after derestriction on the phone the mechanics said "well there not that powerful a bike anyway!" Haha! Have to tell them how to do their job! Anyway, I'm loving the newfound power, especially when giving it a handful through five grand upwards! PS: thanks to all you TR650 lovers out there, this forum is fantastic. Without it I would still be riding the stock bike around cursing it!
I had Stefan do first service on my Terra (bought from First Class in Melbourne) last year. At that time I was not aware of the Moss thing. He did service the bike but explained he wasn't able to reset the "spanner" service reminder but didn't mention why. I have my doubts he has Moss.
Spoke with two Melbourne Husky dealers yesterday who had the MOSS tool and both advised BMW have withdrawn its use. What does that mean - well they physically have the MOSS tool they just can't log in which is what they need to do to service the bike. They believe that there will be an alternative software/diagnostic tool available, it just comes down to cost to them and the return on investment. Neither dealer has a large customer base with the TR650 or the Nuda. Will be contacting PFG today to see what long term options are available in Australia for TR650 and Nuda riders. PFG were the original importers of the bikes before KTM " screwed the pooch".
I don't think that KTM have done anything to affect you or your bike. BMW sold Husqvarna. In Australia, KTM have nothing to do with our Huskys. PFG was the husky importer for Italian built Huskys. PFG issued the warranties for Italian built Huskys. PFG continue to be the parts supplier for Italian built Huskies.
It's difficult to establish who was screwed over in the contract of sale of the company unless you were a party to or privvy to the actual agreement. It matters not to us consumers. We just want to know who is responsible for our support as customers, especially those still covered by warranty.
I checked today with Full throttle M/C Brisbane about the return of their (m)Oss machine, and they are still waiting. They have a large backlog of Nudas and TRs requiring normal servicing. Keys and ECU problems are sent off. (I assume to PFG) Erik, if your reading this, Is the "Oss" up and running in Europe?
So Paul Feeney, what are you doing to support us Italian made Husky owners ? Now that IS the question
Surely, it was BMW who owned the Italian Huskys that let us down, selling re-badged Paris-Dakars without ensuring that they were "perfect", before selling out to KTM's boss, not actually to KTM as such
Hi Paul, It is! At least in the Netherlands. Has been up and running for a few days now. Everthing TR650 and Nuda related can be done again. Erik
Mate, I suggest you pick up the phone and ring PFG on (07) 5596 0718, ask for Chris and explain that you want to find a dealer with the new diagnostic tool near you. He was very helpfull when I spoke with him. Nev is correct PFG are responsible for our bikes in Australia hence the reason for calling them direct. The KTM screwed the pooch comment was because of the way they conducted business in Australia when they took over the brand and left PFG in a hole during the transition between owners - apologies to those I offended!
Spoke to Stefan yesterday about an ECU remap/update , said he has had good results in the past but is unable to log in at the moment .....?
mmmm so what i have been reading in this thread, that the moss system is not working atm... well that's bad news for me as tomorrow, i'm putting my bike in for its 10k service and to get de-restricted and for both the moss system is needed. I guess i will have to wait and see.
Little update guys: A problem with MOSS is that it was exclusively for BMW dealers (and Husqvarna dealers). However the European Union passed a law that states that exclusive access to the electronica of a car/motorcycle is illegal. Not only a official dealer, but also a regular garage should be able to maintain the electronics. So that is another reason (next to the KTM drama) why OSS came into play in Europe. Every dealer, garage, guy-with-a-shed can get access to OSS if he: 1 buys the system with a VAT number (no consumers) 2 signs up to the system 3 pays BMW for each hour the system is used. So the European guys are all helped with this. Erik Italhusky.com
