I heard the dealer show is the 17th of this month, September........What's the update on the 650?? I can't decide whether take a good deal on the 630 or wait until the 650 news?? I know it's a week or so away but not many 630 around from what I've been told?? Also, I keep hearing the new 650 is supposed to be well priced, very reasonable MSRP??
Even if it is reasonably priced it's certainly not going to be $6495. I'll bet my bottom dollar. If the intro MSRP on the 630 was $8999 you can bet a TE650 is going to be at least that if not another grand. Motoxotica posted recently that they got one more 630 in. Tough decision for sure. Either way though, I'm sure you'll be happy with your purchase.
A Roman Catholic bishop who is very close to the Pope told me confidentially that the 650 is just a rumour ... but that Husqvarna is working on a Harley clone etc. etc. etc.
I would too. The 650 if it exists, will be a KLR like clone and a pig. Over 400 + lbs and as offroadable as a V-Strom.
While streamlining the number of engines the companies use makes business sense, it doesn't make sense to put the G650 thumper engine, which is extremely dated, into a TE model. It would totally change what that bike is. The TE630 has a market. A TE650 with the kymco motor would compete with the G650GS directly.
I agree with you completely! The 630 was the bike I was really after for a "real" off/on road DS. I own a late model KTM 450 exc, and although I love it it's not fun for 200 mile mixed use days. I only use the exc for off road these days.
I have posted it before but will repeat again. The BMW business model seems to be that they don't import standard models, everything on the showroom floor has quite a few extras. They do offer to build you a stripped down one but at least for the 800 adventure one the price seemed about that of two Kawasaki verses at discount dealers. Perhaps the Husky will have a somewhat different method of doing business. Maybe put the base model on the floor and let the buyer up grade at their own pace.
+1 I personally don't care for the G650. Is that the rotax single or the 800cc mis-named twin? Seems like a sleeper to me. If I were going to buy that type of bike it would be the F800GS. Geez they're a lot of money though, and heavier than sin. Frankly, it didn't make sense to me to put a kymco motor in a husky either, ala 449/511. But that's just me. The G450X doesn't make sense to me either, was like trying to re-invent the wheel. Why a heavy stainless frame? Frame rust just isn't an issue. Either chromoly or aluminum, both light and strong, the latter much more costly and complicated to engineer. And they were never going to become a household name in offroad here in the US if they never successfully competed in motocross/supercross. That's the proving ground for a true offroad brand. Plus you can't make it with just one model. Look how KTM has dominated the offroad market. Successfully competing in mx/sx as well as offroad competition, and a whole range of sizes and styles to suit. Like it or not they are now the largest manufacturer of offroad motorcycles in the world, by far. The japenese big-4 just never innovated to be able to keep up. Husky could successfully compete if they continue to innovate, dominate, and provide a broad model selection array for all types of riders and riding styles. Ain't gonna happen with 3 sizes of bikes, chinese motors, dated technology, piece-meal engineering.
Personally I am more intrested in a te 125 it would be much easier to drag over under or around barricades and use as a wild life observation platform. I know it is a husky forum but there is a ktm 350 to hang a plate on coming soon I understand. There is the F and the G series one is a single and one is a twin. The twin numbering is supposed to be the horsepower kind of like outboard motors. I think that is more fair than calling a 577 a 610. I had followed the 650 single bmw at it's beginning. I never did understand the weight compared to my vintage twins they were like 20 pounds less. They took an existing rotax engine and re designed about half of the pieces and got rotax to make it their way. Maybe it is made in a kymco factory now. Another thing I have read about the chain drive bmw models is that they spec a riveted together one piece chain so if you ask the dealer to give you new chain and sprockets they take off the swingarm and bill you like $500. As for the 450 bmw now husky they tried to take from their formula 1 auto or auto like vehicles and adapt it. I think they initialy tried pretty hard but significantly more than average of the top riders they got to pilot it got hurt. They sent me a postcard with a price but the dealer only had one with a $750 extra shock absorber on it.
As I own a TE511 i can tell you the motor is VERY good. A little weak in stock form, amazing in power up mode. Smooth, ideal, accommodating and useful while being fun. I think BMW hit the target with the 449/511 and most everyone who samples mine loves it.
I second this !! I've got about 800 miles on my TE449 and really love it !! A very well balanced mostly off road mcycle. Having said that I "had" to heavily farkelize it but that's more of the fun of building on such a great platform. Of course IMO Dave
I heard that BMW used the 450 x motor in the new huskies as they still have a contract with the manufacturing of the motor and it made more sense to keep on using it instead of using the old 450 Husky motor and paying the period of the contract -- who knows maybe a kymco motor will be next -- Think i need to look for a good 510te and get it jacked up for my Adventure riding --
BMW renewed the contract in August 2011. Take a look below at the link. http://www.kymco.com/news/content.asp?NewsId={90EC11BF-AD91-45A7-BCE2-D72F576238BC}
They need someone more well versed in English to write their press releases. My teenager writes better than that. Hopefully they can do a better job building motors.
Just talked with the Husky guys - For sure 650 in the U.S. 2012 - MSRP set to be approx. $6,999 Jan./Feb. release. Cool.... Later, Jeff Tasky
It will be a kymco built rotax anchor. I'm sure it will be a nice dualsport/adventure type bike. If it actually comes in at $6999 that's a bonus. I'm supposing I'll rather keep my 630.
