Portugal for the last 27 years. Lots of hand made parts and very high quality. Motor is sourced from Asia. Upgraded and has 2 year warranty. Now that I have one it is obvious this guys are enthusiasts, love motorcycles, and care about design. Other than the motor and suspension components they build most the bike and have nice features. Fit and finish is excellent as is hardware selecting. Super easy to work on and maintain. Its a great bike. here is the USA site. http://motoajp.com/ Also check out the AJP forum for info. here is a little factory tour, hit the next button at the top of the page to see all the pix. Very nice factory. https://www.facebook.com/4578346309...7834630984493/535223199912302/?type=1&theater
Thanks I built it to get this stuff off the husky forum so as not to clutter it with my stuff but people still want to talk about it here so whatever. All good.
Kelly knows more than I do but motors from China, think Frames china some euro and japan but assembled in Spain
Are we still talking AJP? Spain? Chinese frames? Better not to post if you have no idea (unless your just here to bash). Well you got one thing right. The motor is from china, brand is Zongshen is ISO9001 compliant and has large long term contracts with HD and Piaggo. And it is good one and upgraded and carries a 2 year warranty. I just got the full manufacturer specs and info on it. Very nice quality motor with counterbalancer, 2 eaton pumps, SS oil filter stock, roller rockers, and almost 2 quarts capacity. I dont think it is going to be an issue and works very well. Its impressed the heck out of me so far. This motor is also used in GG, the new adventure bike and many other factories are using it. Its a good motor. George, you bad mouthed the 449/511 motors not long after selling one to a customer I sent you. That was not received well by him you told him how good the bike is then months later posted "it is as good as the chinese bearings that are in it". Come to find out they have very high quality german bearings in them. Other than the torque limiter that have been VERY reliable and robust. I love mine. Over 6000 miles of hard thrashing, valves still in spec, bike is stinking fast / runs perfect. My point is please don't come here and bash things you don't know about. Seems you are trying to blemish a bike you have never seen or experienced. AJP builds everything but the motor and the suspension for the most part. Source stuff like brakes as well like every other manufacturer. Frame, plastic, molds, seat and everything are all done in house. This is not fly by night effort this is 27 years of focused manufacturing. They have a very nice facility. 3D cad cam engineering, in house mold making, fast prototype 3D printers etc. These guys are for real and have a great product. If people are going to cry over sourcing parts you will not be buying anything, cars, bikes whatever. An AJP PR5 just took 2nd int he pro class at the Portugal extreme enduro. Endless happy customers in the UK for years. Nothing to be scared of they are just new to the US. hand welded and painted frames, built entirely in house. I own a AJP so can speak to it directly and the quality is top notch. Fit and finish is exceptional. In house seat mold, swingarm mold. All done in house and refined quickly as needed. The seat itself is super high quality, like everything else. 3d modeling and element stress testing, in house. Virtual bike modeling for tolerances and fitment / interference. Just like the big guys only better as no big corporate bean counter breathing down your neck. Built by enthusiasts that all ride... right out of the back of the shop. Have spoke with the importer to great lengths who has been to the factory twice. He is / was a dealer for Beta, Sherco and a few others and totally gets quality and good product. several 3d printers for test fitting plastic and other parts... All bikes are pre run on a dyno etc. Frame building supplies Oh yeah they build the complete exhaust muffler and all and it is super nice stuff that fits perfect and is well built. Was going to replace the muffler but after looking at it is is a very nice aluminum unit with two included inserts and really no way to improve. (dont need to buy one either) these guys can't keep up with demand even though you can see they are well stocked and trying... Come with quality Michelin tires not crap. These bikes are slap hand guards on and go. Even the skid plate is one of the best designs I have ever seen and built all in house (Remind me of the new TM designs ones only better coverage and fit) Awesome 48mm Sachs fork fully adjustable and even have externally adjustable preload and are nitrate coated. Top quality. I have 2 rides on them and are already my favorite forks. The new Beta trainer has much lower spec 43mm forks for comparison. Very nice subframes and in house built tank. Attention to detail here as they have a billet receptor and cap so you will never mess threads up on the plastic tank and it will never wrap. Innovative, incredible build quality / fit and finish, and built by enthusiasts. Even the details like fasteners and such are well thought out and implemented. Takes very few tools to work on, all hardware is top quality and fits perfect into threaded holes as they should. These guys are for real as is the product. Just want to make that clear. I was told the quality is very high. I had high expectations when uncrating mine. It crushed my expectations. Build quality is as good or better than anything. Bike rides awesome and brings a lot of advantages to the table. I defy you to look at one in person and not be amazed by the quality. Everyone who has seen it said they look super high quality and everyone who rode it loves it. I'm doing demos, anyone is welcome to come ride one... then you will get it. hope this clears that up. Kelly
Not at all. Not going to interest everyone but it is a great offering. Overlook it if you want but the product is excellent.
Yes, we all know how you talk openly about how the 449/511 engine is "a piece of shit". I have been hearing about this rhetorical nonsense from both your customers and mine who have spoken with you. Seriously, I would appreciate if you got your facts straight and stopped. Only some of the parts on a 449 are manufactured by Kymco such as the cases. These cases are injection molded and trifle the quality of even the modern KTM engines today. All of these engines were then assembled by BMW in Germany using precision German bearings and hardware.
Didn't say anything bad about AJP quality or components only thought I read that from one of your earlier posts or somewhere on the frame, reason why I said "think" (my bad). Reason for the Kelly reference. Where did the ref to 449/511 come from? Feeling bad about the Mid Term results? Want to single me out on the 449/511 Ok I'm just not politically correct but I've earned the right to call an ace is an ace and a spade is a spade.(old school for "it is what it is") A POS is Still a POS. of course this being MY opinion. I've personally bought them rode them and then sold them. Didn't feel like reinventing that wheel. Ok for under $5000.00 the 449/511 not a bad play bike, as $9000.00 race bike or Dual sport it's still a "POS" ask any of your former sponsored racers, and others who tried to race them. Am happy for all that have and like them just keep riding. I will always remember this model as the one that finally broke Husqvarnas back. OF course this is just my opinion Later George
Just to get off old Husqvarna business, the AJP is hand built in Portugal, and in case someone doesn't know, that is part of Europe. Bikes are designed and personally inspected by Antonio Pinto, many times Enduro champion. So here you have a guy that knows how to set up and race a bike and knows what conditions have to be conquered, and he set out to build his own bikes to accomplish just that. By sourcing a high production Asian power unit, he is able to focus on high quality components for the rest of the bike including frame design and build. There may be more in house built parts on a AJP than a KTM, Husqvarna, or other major brands. A good portion of parts on a KTM are made in Italy. How many times have we heard, Why doesn't someone build a modern day XR or KDX? Well, I think it has now been done. GP
Ermagerd, this is not good! LOL. Just getting my 125 all dialed in, am happy as a clam with it and excited to put a 165 kit on it. Love 2 strokes. Dislike 4 st's in the woods for all the reasons Kelly mentioned. So conflicted now!
Well then; their a very tidy package i'll throw in with you there. It could be a big hit based on price alone so no pressure boys when my old Husky finally gives up it is worth a look although Chinese whatever is not where i'm at. [ i have never been in a Wal-Mart store either ] Ride on.
Gobs of great bikes out there including yours Ed, no need to panic. Was just trying to say this bike is different and you really need to ride it to get it. Should be more ride reports from others trying it this weekend.
Right on Kelly. I was more just laughing at myself and how easily I get excited and distracted when I learn about yet another awesome bike out there. The 5 gets added to the long list of amazing bikes. And re panic, you should know my personal motto is: Panic now, avoid the rush!
John01, my name is John as well. I have a AJP dealership in southeast Pennsylvania, we are only a couple hours from Virginia. If you would like, we could set something up for you to demo our PR4. You can come to Pennsylvania, or I would be willing to meet you if that helps! Our shop number is 610-696-2546
AJPPA (John) I talked to you right after you got your PR4 demo bike and had a ride in on it. You told me it was a great little bike and tons of fun. I SHOULD have listened and left the pumpkin I got in the patch. I'm trying to sell my 2010 Husky TC250 and when I do it's which AJP bike time. A tip to all my bike riding e-friends......don't listen to you friends on which bike you should get, get the one you think you should get . I'll be in touch asap John. Thanks.
The moral of the story is don't listen to your real friends, listen to your internet friends. Who woulda thought lol
Off of subject I have seen Italian huskys. Same year bikes and size one with Chinese bearings other not......who knows....... I'm very Leary of Chinese stuff. But did have a Rupp (yes they tried for one year to steal the name!) 04 I think. It was a 90 cc I think. With 900 miles on it and running strong when I sold it. No rusty bolts even. Lol...
The bike is european, the motor is asian sourced and warranty backed. Time will tell. Mine likes a good pounding, never misses a beat, is very quiet, does its job, never gets hot, just plugs along. 800 and some miles now. Dont think it is even broke in yet. Two eaton oil pumps, 2 quarts of oil, SS filter and 2 screens, balancer, roller rockers, nice looking castings. Seems good to me so far. The engine castings are very nice, japanese like and clean / modern looking in every way. I dont think it is some amazing motor but does the job well and is easy to use. Look forward to see how it will hold up.
