OK OK. I'm sure it is a fun little bike. Just wonder the horsepower and the true dry weight. Just my thoughts 4999 instead of 5999 would just seem more appropriate. like. Everything I'm sure there is a niche for it. And if a guy burned around on it for a day would be able to make a good determination as to what the bike is and is not capable of. I'd probably rather ride one of those old small gassers. Can't remember the model name but it is smaller and doesn't have a Chinese engine...
You're comparing it to the wrong bikes. Instead of 125's, compare it to a drz400 or yamaha wr250r. Its almost 1k cheaper, has the power of a powered up version of those bikes, comes with better suspension and brakes, and is about 50 pounds lighter. It's meant to be an easy to maintain torquey 4 stroke, basically to do the job in the trails 4 strokes are supposed to be for. This isn't your tc250 but one of the best small bore 4 stroke trail bikes out now
The PR5 is way more bike than you might think. Other then being a little down on power I find it as good or better then most bikes of any brand. You have to see one up close to understand the build quality and details and need to ride one to understand its abilities. It FAR exceeded my expectations which were semi high after talking to people that had seen and rode them. Highly underestimated for the most part. Its a great bike regardless of price. The motor only makes 27hp but is very willing. It has not changed the pecking order in our group and if anything I am going faster on this bike. It is very good. This model did very well in the pro class at the Portugal extreme enduro. I'm considering racing it in at the Idaho city ISDE next year which is a big serious 2 day 240 mile race.
Delphi. http://delphi.com/manufacturers/other/powertrain/small/ I have WAY more info and ability to diagnose this EFI already than any EFI system. As it is not some proprietary system I have full documentation, test procedures and info on everything. Very liberating compared to hard to get info on most bikes. The documentation i have so far on these bikes is excellent. Much more complete and all in english than any other manufacturer I have seen so far. Quite nice.
Come ride one, it will change your mind. It is WAY more bike than a GG pampura ever hoped to be. Quality and details are far exceeding that bike too. And yes I have seen and ridden a pampera. If you burn around on it for a day (I have 250 miles on it) you would realize how good it is. I have a pile of bikes, this one stands tall. Diced up with a well ridden WR300 in the high dez, hung just fine. Ride with the normal crew that I usually ride my CR165 husky or CR250 husky with and keep the same pecking order. In fact I think I'm slightly faster on the AJP. The bike itself is as good as anything, the motor is slightly less on power but willing and able you just have to dig a little more. Love riding this bike and every time I have taken it out the crew is amazed. Read my ride reports, this is no toy.
Not a toy, not like a pampera, not at all what you expect. Very solid easy to ride bike with way more ability than you will give it credit for until you ride one. "From 1991 to 2000, AJP participated in the National Championships of Enduro, winning five titles in a row from 1996 to 2000. AJP also participated in the National Off-Road Championships, with victories in 1996, 1997 and 1999." What sets AJP apart from other manufacturers is the fact that Antonio Pinto himself hand-checks each and every bike that leaves the factory. According to Pinto AJP designs off-road motorcycles that can get from one point to the other in everyday activities but can ultimately give its rider a race-like experience if so desired.
Fletchman45 "Looks like a OK trail bike nothing more.......priced higher then I would expect....weight?????" These bikes? On Any Sunday
Delphi have a long history, should be a good thing if not locked up as the end user. Thanks for the info.
Hmmm..... very good suspension, EFI, 2 year warranty, great build quality, compare it to all the other bikes out there and see where it stacks up. Even if the new Yamaha wr250f has more power it is atleast $2,000 more. trail bike, nothing more.... A aircooled PR4 finished second in the expert class at the Lagares extreme enduro leaving dozens of "underpriced" KTM's in it's wake. If you think the race was not legitimate, Graham Jarvis finished second in the pro's.
I should back up and say that I don't believe it is supposed to compete with $8-10,000 bikes, but it does appear to be a quite remarkable value in todays world.
Not arguing with anyone. 4999 seems better. I'm sure with their history probably OK. Hey I like a fantic just never seen one. If the engine can hold up probably fine. Can a guy plate the thing?? For its purpose I'm sure it is fine...is motosportz selling these things or just really likes it that much???
I'm selling them. Been very up front about that. I also have reviewed bikes and parts for decades and try to be as honest as possible. Same with Lectron carbs and Motos tires and JD tuners along with a ton of stuff i don't sell like XF coolant, Golden tyres, ZipTy suspension, etc. I'm not going to lie or make stuff up and have people call me out. There is another PR5 owner on the AJP forum, says he 100% agrees with my assessment of the bike so 2 for 2 so far. It is a very good bike. If your ever out this way ping me, I have a pile of bikes and you can try the AJP. You like suspension, handling and flickability or so it seems from your posts, I have no doubt you would like this bike. As I said the motor is not the fastest but gets it done, the rest of the bike is very competitive with most anything out right now. Best stock suspension I have ever sampled and the handling has to be experienced to understand.
