Here's a photo I took of part of the Stonyford map. It's kind of big (sorry!) but it shows some of the trails and terrain and the campground, too...

With the new forum it resizes so it does not mess up the peoples threads until they click on it to make it bigger. :)

Mind if I make the link in post #1 a bit nicer to look at?

I believe that looks a bit better. I typed in the words "Stonyford Recreation Area Link", highlighted those words, then clicked on the link symbol. Then a window popped up and I could paste that long link in.

I should go update that tips and tricks thread I put up today. :)

I lived in NorCal for 10 years, but never rode there. I'm supposed to be returning from Italy about then.

It's about 600 miles each way from SoCal. Perhaps my oldest son could deliver bikes for guys from SoCal that want to buy a cheap round trip ticket on Southwest Airlines to Sacramento.

That would be cool to meet you and some of the SoCal crew! Where did you live in NorCal?

As we get closer to March 27th I will get some directions from you. I know a people can get lost easy in that area, plus I will be driving there early in the morning. Will be fun, cant wait.

Just to be clear, the meeting / camping place is Gray Pine Group Campground - which is about 2 football fields before Davis flats. Although we should have some type of signal set up I suppose.

Look at the map in post #22

Well, it is tentatively Gray Pine Group Campground. I want to see how many people we're going to have before reserving the group campground. It's $75 per night, but if we have enough people it will be well worth it.

Also, when cresting the ridge and coming down the hill towards the camping/staging areas, you can look down onto the campgrounds and see them all quite clearly. I'll do up a Google Maps tomorrow. For some reason I'm not getting the background map on it right now.

Well ok, but the intention at least at this time, is to be in the flat area and not up at one of the more complicated to get to campgrounds, correct?

And to avoid the logistical silliness of multiple group camping areas. (See China Hat thread)

WC, We certainly dont expect you to absorb the cost of the $75 per night. Any way to set up a PayPal link or some such so we can chip in easily?

Yep... lets make it Gray Pine, and keep it Gray Pine... I am sure there will be at least a few that will make it.

Yes, that is correct. I don't want folks having to drive all over hell and gone just to find us. If we don't get enough people to make it worthwhile to reserve the group campground we can always meet up at Davis Flat. I never, ever camp at Davis, as it is a big empty dirt lot with only a few tables on the outside edges. It's funky.

I figured a jar for donations would work[IMG] I have a PayPal account but money has always gone out of it, never in [IMG]

Gray Pine is the only reservable group campground there.
