I just finished a four day trip of trail maintence and riding. Not sure which part is most responsible, but this is the first time since early this spring that my 2009 TXC has not boiled over and come home needing repairs. Before this trip, I added the high flow water pump from this thread - not sure why it isn't stock, I added a TE fan with a manual switch to turn it on - the 12V switch was about $4 at a local tractor supply store, and I switched to waterless coolant from Evans that has a boiling point 100 degrees F above engine ice for about the same price as engine ice - a little bit more with delivery charges. My last race, the engine got up to about 260 degrees, cracked the radiator and blew out all of the engine ice (not positive which happened first). This weekend, riding through very similar trails with air temperatures about 10 degrees warmer, I got the engine up to 204 degrees one time, then turned the fan on and cooled it down to about 180 pretty quickly. On more open trails, the temperature varied from a low of 146 with the fan on to a high of 172 with the fan off most of the time. Again, I don't know which of the three is most responsible, but I do believe my Husky has finally become a dependable bike that I can again look forward to riding. Thanks Kelly!!!
Ahhh, should have included that information. Trailtech Vapor computer with the heat sensor in the hot water hose coming out of the engine.
Bandkw, This "Evans" stuff sounds good, tell us a little more! Where did you get it(found it at Amazon for $34 a gallon) and which one did you decide on, the NPG-R? Thank you!
I purchased the 1/2 gallon SF+ from Zip-ty racings web-site. I picked it because they did not mention needing to flush the system with a second $30 bottle of fluid to get rid of all the water before adding the waterless coolant. When it came, I discovered two things: 1) they say the water content should be less than 5%, preferably around 1%. In other words, drain all of the original coolant you can, then dump our stuff in there. 2) there is an Evans logo on the front of the bottle, and I'm pretty sure it is the same stuff that Evans sells. Not sure if it is the NPG-R. It is pretty much the same price, so I don't see any real reason to buy from one place over the other unless one is closer to your house so it arrives faster or you need to purchase a second product for one of them. I bought the 1/2 gallon size because about 3/4 of a 1/2 gallon bottle fills my Husky radiators and reservior (which I learned by boiling the radiator dry a couple times and re-filling with $19 per half gallon engine ice). My real hope it to not have any additional boil over issues, and to keep the 1/8th gallon of waterless coolant on my shelf for years to come. It has been 80 to 90 degree F highs since I received the bottle and opened it. The liquid looks like water when you pour it but has kind of an maple scent to it. Anything else I can describe?
Hey guys, my name is Roberto and I have a husqvarna 450sm 2004 and want to put the hi-flow water pump to my bike, but the local dealer told me that it only fits together with the 2008 models, do you know if it fits together in 2004? number of the high flow pump is this 8000H2449 Thanks, greetings from Mexico.
