Tom said they spent a LOT of time sorting that windshield. It's the same one he uses on all his models, just different mounting brackets for the different bikes. It's got a flip lip on top, has to be set to the right angle and height, and needs the space below the headlight screen to eliminate buffeting. It's also wide to give good torso protection. In his words, 'You won't believe it." I'm really anxious to try it. BTW, the bracketing is really sturdy too, so you don't have to worry about it spinning out of place offroad, like the spitfire or Maier, RO, etc. Plus you can either drill more mounting holds for a lower position for offroad, or just flip it over with another pair of holes. That way you're not hitting it with your helmet or chest when really climbing around the bike on a gnarly trail.
I drive by Turbo City on my way to Irv Seaver's, but have never been inside. Hopefully I can pick up a wind screen before LA B 2 V. I'll be riding there and back on the Husky as well as riding sweep both days. Only have about 1000 miles on the bike and I'm looking forward and anxious at the same time.
Call or email Tom, he's the owner, and tell him you want one. He'll let you know when they're ready. You can have the one they were going to put on my bike, I won't need it before their production run is ready. Yeah, I had no idea they were in the ADV motorcycle accessory business. He got started a number of years back when he needed a rack for his wife's bike. They just took off like wildfire, now with Parts Unlimited selling them under the Moose brand - thousands of racks. Super nice guy. He never drives a car, always rides.
Really nice gear, I'm going to need to open a super secret bank account that my wife doesn't know about. That's the easy part, actually getting some cash in there might be a little tricky.
Windscreen would be a lot nicer with a flatter top half -- needs more rake. Looks like a turbulence machine...like a 990 Adv screen. My head hurts just thinking about the time I rode one at freeway speed for 15 minutes.... I'm in for that rack, though!
If the windshield is a buffet then I won't be running it. Tom says they spent a lot of time and trials to get something that is turbulent free. The angle of the photo makes it look more upright than it is. It pretty much follows the rake of the headlight number plate. I'm anxious to try it out. The wind blast at 65 is very fatiguing. I plan to mount it much lower for trails, hell I hit the mirrors with my forearms, so I would surely be bumping into the windshield. I need some folding mirrors too.
the good thing is...they take returns. I might try the screen, so long as I can send it back if it bounces my noggin around. They're smart guys. I'm willing to give the windshield a try. Looks like the rack mount is a perfect fit with DirtBagz...and, I think my existing Pelican case top-box mount will bolt right to that rack. Can't wait to order one...
In the planning stages I suggested to Tom that some of the guys were going to want to run the DBZ setup with the top rack so their mount should take that into consideration. The way it ended up their mount goes where the DBZ mount would, and there is one bar in the way at the very front. So the mounting plate on the DBZ will need to be modified and a new hold drilled in it to thru-bolt to their mounting plate. Plenty of room under there, easy access from behind for fasteners. I'll have more pics of the windshield next week when everything is done, and an opportunity to try it out. So if you want to hang I'll be able to tell you how it works first hand. I don't think he'll be ready to ship for a couple of weeks anyway. You could always email Tom for a price and reserve one, get in line, etc. There's a ton of interest in this stuff - he tracks web hits by source and there's a lot of new traffic to his site.
I have this thread going on in the big 630 thread on ADV and Bill Eakins posted this: You can also put robo brackets on there if you want a differnt screen angle or height. madstad use turbocity's mount arms, but his own shield shapes and of course the brackets. he'll sell the brackets alone for turbo city owners. http://www.madstad.com/s.nl/sc.10/.f http://www.madstad.com/s.nl/sc.7/category.1921/.f
I can't say for positive, but I would think it would be the same as it has always been, and the same as the one for the 610: $119.95
More pics coming, this was just shot at the shop when I picked up the bike. I'll get some more over the weekend. Everything looks and works really well.
The TCI stuff looks really good. going to order myself a borrego rack as soon as they are available. Observation about your skid plate though. It only has one hole. Unless I am VERY much mistaken there are 2 drain plugs that should be removed when the oil is drained. Unless you have that second hole you are going to have to remove the skid plate to change your oil (or at least you 'should'). You might want to check with TCI before they make a large run of these (OR someone/anyone PLEASE correct me if I am wrong, don't want these excellent folks having to run around in circles because they got some duff info from me!). I assume the engine guards ONLY work with the TCI skid plate because of the mounting, if so that is a shame, but perhaps that is the only way they could make them work. Thanks for keeping everyone up to date on htis stuff. Cheers S1
Yes, they need a second drain hole for the main plug. I need to remind them of that before they run them. Engine guards fasten to the skid, so yeah, it's an integrated unit. Hell for stout though. The guard mounts will bend in a hard crash, so bend them back out and keep going. I'm just making a second windscreen that's about half the height. Will post up if it turns out. Gonna test ride of course.
Did you trying mounting up that fuel can TCI sells and riding with it yet? Interested to see how it feels/ holds up
Next week. Will post an update. I did get a medium size Rolie bag and enduro tank bag from Wolfman. The Rolie is gonna work out perfect with the fuel pax. EDIT: was tinkering the other night and took this one...
