Guys I think you need to contact Magneti Marelli for the ECU and code. I am talking with them now, but they are not very helpful at this point. This is whay I started the Petition http://www.cafehusky.com/threads/pe...650-random-low-speed-stall.43428/#post-420924 The Petition is to show them the extent of this problem and so far it is doing this very nicley, if you have not filled it in please do. I also have the V16 MOSS Tool DVD's, should I copy and share them on Google Drive or something....?
That would be great to have the DVD's. But what does that actually mean? That we can do MOSS updates ourselves? Surely not. HOPEFULLY SO!
My guess is, that this is proprietary BMW software, which is not legal to distribute, and that to use the MOSS software, you need to connect to the MOSS server at BMW in Germany, and you will probably need a userid and password. You'll need the correct cables to connect the bike to the computer too.
Well if you want to get all legal about it, how does a racketeering charge sound? I would love for them to come after anybody who is trying to fix the life threatening stalling issue. Publicity is the last thing BMW, Husqvarna and Magnetti Marelli want. Why do you think they are ignoring us? By law, you do not have to take your vehicle to the dealer to have it repaired. If you wish to learn more about copy rights, the dcma, first sale doctrine, and fair use, do a quick search. You can search tabberone if you want to see a little guy who has beaten the big dogs, and won money from them. And I have followed the advice and won on ebay vero. @kiwiape... If you wish to make an archival backup and store it in the cloud, that is within your rights.
WAUNT! I would have to agree. Trying to fix a well known safety is the last thing any mfg wants to challenge.... BITD (back in the day...circa 2000) I was heavily involved with tuning GM C3 fuel injection systems. Many users had open-source editing programs that disected the GM code. AFAIK GM never got fussy over it. I'm sure Halls Cycles flashed my bike with the latest MOSS update when they did the PDI. I don't have nearly as much trouble with mine but it's far from what I would consider stable. If someone was able to come up with a program and cable so I could dump the calibration into a file I would. That way at least we could have some kind of community support since BMW, Husqvarna, MM and KTM are so worried about passing the buck. Unfortunatly I'm not a software or electronics guys. I'm a nuts and bolts guy. I can make or fab anything mechanical but I need someone else to do the electronics....
Sorry, you have already prepared the backup copies of the program? Someone has already put in some cloud online?
Today I followed the lead of Mag00 and filed a formal complaint with DOT Auto Safety Hotline 1-888-DASH-2-DOT(1-888-327-4236) I cited the off idle stall as being a problem which could result in the death of the rider from pulling out in traffic or being rear ended at a stop light. This took only about 10 minutes of my time and they gave me a confirmation number for the report on file. They said an investigation would take place and I would be advised if they find a recall is warranted. I don't know if this will help at all but then… it only took 10 minutes. I would encourage others to do likewise. Thanks Mag00.
