I merged with the caravan from Salem on Thursday just before we crossed Horse Ridge east of Bend. Put about 20 miles on the WR250...great fun....and another 12 on the trusty 511(still my favorite)..then off to the 24 Hours of Starvation Ridge (Yes, we won)
Yep, that trail 31 was fun. Thanks, Russ. Sorry we didn't get to ride together. Next time we'll ride the 310's together.
I've NEVER been to a gathering of such like minded DERELICTS in my life. Of course this weekend will go down as one of the best. Met a lot of new people, and some old ones. Like Steve, Kelly and Brian. Oh, sorry, Brian only LOOKS OLD. Glad I could help with the fire. BILL, your one a kind. I've met a lot of dealers. You rank at the top of the heap. Gramps ps To all of you who I offered to take for rides in the Trask, just send me a PM. We'll get here done
I live in Bend and just picked up an 07 WR 250. We rode four corners Millican on Saturday to get a feel for the bike and to make sure everything was working properly. Then Sunday we headed out to China Hat. We pulled into the 25 camp on Sunday morning to our surprise it was full of Huskys. The wind was blowing like crazy so we headed out on the trails and figured I would see what was up when we got back. Well as most of you know the weather turned. It rained, snowed and hailed. We got back to camp and most of you had headed out. We were cold and wet and did the same. Found this thread and hope to make it next year.
Welcome. That 310 with the giant headlight you see above in post 201 is also based in Bend. Its usually sporting the 1R plate...youre not alone :-)
Well done Gramps. Nice to see you again. I had a great time too. I need to compose a report of how much fun the gathering was and it is forthcoming. Thanks Bill and Bryon. I was hoping that Dave and Adam would make it too though.
I had more fun than a puppy dog with two peckers last Thursday - Saturday. Many new friends were made and the weather was pure bliss. Bryan was the most accommodating guy at camp throughout the event and I only tripped on Busch Light cans fourteen times while I was there. I absoutely can not wait until next year's event.
I think I saw you pulling into camp around 12:45? We were packing up from our 3 hour ride (1/2 in the snow). I saw 1 or 2 huskys pull in and keep riding by. I wondered who it was...
Riding down I stopped at spots in the fossil rich region. Arrived at camp on Saturday...I sorta misunderstood exactly where I was supposed to go to. Picked a nice place to park my bike and setup for a cold night of camping. Went for a little ride before dark. Once the sun went down...the fire warmed up. The music played, stories of the days ride exagerated, the booze flowed, and the embers warmed.
Thanks Kevin & Dave for letting me ride with ya all day. We weren't lost, we just rode a couple of the best trails of the day, several times. Steve commented about a 1 hour ride turning into 3 hours. hahaha.. Thanks Russ for the dark at six reminder, we made it back just in time. Next year: spend more time there to meet and talk to more people, knock down more trail miles, make effort to try a demo bike (provided they are there), really wanted to ride a 449/511.
Was all good but that old F-er who kept throwing the firewood in the wrong places. Good to see you again.
I saw you there. You busted out early sunday as you were all packed up and gone by the time I got back out there. Hope you had a good time.
No, and I kept meaning to go over and talk to you and Blake, but never did... I got to get some 1 1/8" bar mounts from ya for my Terra, I will email ya
Thank you sir. At the next Gathering, unless I make it over there before that. I really enjoyed that riding, which I didn't think I would
Clete, Great to meet you and ride with you. Thanks for leading us around. We weren't really lost, there were just moments of uncertainty. All part of the fun of riding. Right, next year we'll spend more time and knock off more cool trails. The trails are so good, it's worth a trip before next year. Dave
I take a group from my area every year to Bend in late May. You are all welcome to join us. We pre plan the routes and put them on 4 x 6 cards so no one gets lost and you don't have to wait
Early is a bit of an understatement. While I knew I didn't bring the warmest sleeping bag in the world...I couldn't sleep later than 5:30 and that was even after I had put on every single piece of clothing I owned, had a candle lantern going all night, and even used sleeping bag and tent cases as booties. No dice. I broke down camp, attached myself to my motorcycle via electric vest, and spent the next 80 miles fighting fog, road frost, and helmet frost. Warming up at a diner in Prineville before dawn, 4 cups of coffee, warm grub, and heading east out of town in the warming sun was heaven. Still a great weekend. Riding a Husky 300 miles each way to meet you characters, seeing nooks and crannies of Oregon, and doing it all from a motorcycle was a big treat!
Thank you, KKelly. That's the nicest thing ANYBODY has said about me in the last three weeks. Nice to see you again, I think. Get a hold of me if your down here again. Gramps
