The offer is always appreciated and I may take you up sometime . I have another commitment that weekend this year though. Very tempting!
We will have at least 4 new bikes,2014 CR144,2013 TC250r,2014 Te310r,2013 Terra 650 for sure and maybe more.
I am planning on making it this year. Looking for an excuse to camp ! Is there room at the camping location for a small 25 ft. RV? Val
And its fairly flat so its easy to setup an RV...No power or running water though. 1 concrete bunker restroom.
To get an idea of the space of the area, see these pages: http://www.cafehusky.com/threads/nw-gathering-round-3-2012-ride-report.28758/page-5
I would appreciate it if you could call the proper people and 100% confirm that China Hat is open. At least 1 BLM riding area I went to last week was closed due to the government shutdown. (Let's not get political, just want to be sure the place is open)
For those folks that aren't camping, does anyone have a motel in mind? Last year some of us stayed at the Red Lion in Bend. Big parking lot, free all-you-eat breakfast (eggs, bacon, coffee, etc) and a good dinner restaurant next door. I think it was about $80 a nite. The NorCal, Idaho, Washington, and Montana contingents stayed there too. And they mostly behaved themselves! http://www.redlion.com/our-hotels/oregon/bend/?cm_mmc=Google-_-Bend Brand-_-Bend Brand-_-red lion hotel Bend
Just called OHV Hotline: 24 hour recorded information, 541-383-4010 and it looks like it's open... it did say the restrooms were closed due to the govt shutdown..
That is what the locals are telling me, trails are still open but restrooms are locked. This is a joint BLM/FS/State managed area so we can still expect Country Sheriff to patrol.
Talk about the lack of essential Gov services! What are we going to do? Do they ticket you for using the woods?
I will be staying in town, looking into reservations now. Sometimes I can get the associate rate of $35 per night at one of the spots there. If so, That's where I'll be.
