Hah! Great. Thanks, Steve. Thanks a lot. No, really. So Plan B hatched in my mind last night while I was sulking in bed, trying to get to sleep despite the bitter disappointment. I know! I'll just do a Fly `n Ride! Perfect! Surely someone would have a bike for me to ride, right? My boots are comfy enough for a plane ride. Well, those hopes and dreams came crashing down this morning when the cheapest fare I could find for us was $547 dollars each. I mean, I love y'all and everything, but...
I'm kinda stuck here but all I can say is my comment was meant in fun and to make you know You and Eric will be missed by everyone and it should have probably been expressed a little differently. And yes if you could have made a deal on flight, there would have been transportation and lots of bikes for you two to ride.
Haha!! You worry too much, Steve You should know by now that I like to laugh a lot and I find humor in almost everything. I totally got a kick out of the "Queen" thing Bill's breakdown of the plane ticket costs makes it sound totally reasonable, but I know better. It's still over $1000 before we even get out the door
Are old Huskys welcome too? I'm thinking about bringing the '88 430. Just put on a new chain, sprockets, and did some linkage maintenance. Don't know how good the jetting will be on the 38mm Mikuni at 4,000 ft + though. Dave
Cool, Kevin. We need some big bore 2-stroke representation at the event. Not just all those e-start, EFI, disc brake, 4-strokes ! I'll see if I can find some mains too and a pilot too. Dave
Good idea! A few months ago, I went round trip on Amtrak from Klamath Falls (just south of Chemult) to San Jose CA. About $90 one-way. Heck of a deal. Trains run north and south every day.
I am picking my son up at his lunch time on Friday from school. The wife doesn't want him to miss a full day. We should be on the the road leaving Salem by Friday noon. We are packing the trailer, now it is time to make a food list.
WHAT!!! NOOOOOO ! Guess I need to make that "Aunt Tami" call after all... Besides, I bought a killer (so I'm told) bottle of wine for you. So...You HAVE to come to get your wine
No... by the time the arrangements are made to pick you up, all the security to deal with on the departing end, and all the other time it takes, that would be about as much time as it would take to ride up to China Hat (unless my calculations are completely off). Last I checked Amtrak was at least 12 hours to get to Salem (an acquaintance of mine was considering taking Amtrak up to Salem to get a bike from Bill and riding it home). Hopping on the TR650 and riding the 8-9 hours up to china hat is about as quick as it gets. Leave work mid afternoon Friday when you get off work, get to China Hat at midnight, set up the tent and sleep. Alternatively if you get tired riding up spend a night in a hotel then getting up early and finishing the journey. Either way you would be at China Hat mid morning on Saturday. Leave Sunday morning and be home in time for dinner Sunday night. All for the total cost of 20 gallons of fuel. All you would need to pack is a tent, sleeping bag/pillow, and a couple of sandwiches for the ride up. I'm sure oodles of people would be happy to supply the rest. EDIT: leaving work and splitting lanes up the golden gate bridge/37/121 or whatever route you would want to take seems much much quicker than using a vehicle that cannot split lanes to me.
The nice thing about that Amtrak trip is that its at night...sleep on train and get up in Chemult at 0 dark thirty in the A.M. and it arrives in Salem about the time Bills opens...just a couple blocks from the station.
