Regarding fuel prices, if you are coming from the south. Pilot station in Dunnigan (I5 & I505 intersection) remains a good value, at least compared to what I had been paying (4.26/gallon) near where I live. 3.78/gallon? Pilot station a couple of miles south of the 97/Weed turnoff, it was 3.95/gallon. Farther up I5 in Oregon it is much cheaper, 3.58/gallon at an Arco in Salem for instance. But I've no idea how fuel prices are up 97 from the Weed turnoff off of I5, which is the way to go to bend, because I did not go that way.
ARCO stations are always an outlier, require cash or add a card fee. For the most part Oregon gas has been in the $3.80 range lately..you can try here for the latest. http://gasbuddy.com/
If anything the trend appears to be getting warmer and drier. Light snow is actually ideal for China Hat.
Going to be a little cold but perfect for traction / trail conditions which will mean you can actually ride with your buddies instead of a 1/8th miles behind waiting for the dust to settle. Should be real fun. Will be at the staging area around noon Friday if all goes well.
Yeah, for me half of the enjoyment comes from the camping. I remember the mulltiday cross country ski trips years ago and realize I'm becoming a wuss staying in an RV. I can totally understand staying at the Red Lion with the gas prices the way they are and taking an RV over the passes when it's snowing.
I just hope this warm air has dried up any puddles before they refreeze and get covered with fresh snow.
Yep, I really dont want to drive the motorhome in a mountain snowstorm....especially when I own an all-wheel drive car :-) I will be staying in Bend this time as well. Probably make my first foray out to 25 on Th afternoon and repeat daily. Im bringing the 511 with Watson Suspension so y'all can take a sample and I think the Watson folks from Hood River will show up on Saturday. And the ETRA club from Eugene will be joining us on the weekend. As Kelly says, a little snow makes it so we can ride together instead of being massively spaced out (that is a technical term)
