Late update, apologies! The shift issue was easily rectified, the gear shift return spring had been "modified" a little and wouldn't pull back enough to centre the shift rack, not before pulling the motor and splitting the cases, one gear was incorrectly installed causing a slight binding, no harm done though.
It now shifts very well and has done plenty of laps of my 110 acre farm, it's an absolute blast to ride!
I may advance the ignition timing a tad, it's at about 1.8mm at the moment. I am aware of the issues with advancing too far, but have a theory about that which may help a few people here.....more to come.

Get yourself a straight kickstart

I'd love a later model alloy kick start lever, it just doesn't work unfortunately, that kicker is there for frame clearance, nothing else.

The "works" look of the expansion chamber really does it for me.

Nice clutch set up. Very neat ride!

I need to give the pipe a bit of attention, steel wool and WD40 for a start.....
