did the red rock canyon senic loop outside Vegas today. Dirt and twisties, loops $4 but its worth it.
Weather this morning wasn't too bad, but there was rain rolling in, so I didn't go far. Went to a recently harvested forest just north of where I live in Melbourne Australia. Somewhere I pass often but have never explored before. I am really liking how the bike is handling on the Metzeler Karoo T tyres. http://goo.gl/maps/6Xsvm One of the gullies too steep for plantation timber. ON my way down this track I tested how nimble the Terra was with the new Karoo tyres, keeping well to the right, close to the bushes. On the way back I decided to see how well they handled the water filled ruts. The answer was that they were deeper than i expected, and the base of the ruts was a lot sloppier than I expected. Had a very low speed tipover right in the middle of the puddle, however luckily the right footpeg embedded itself in the mud and stopped the bike even tipping far enough over for the crash bars to get wet. Through logged areas, which have just been replanted Hard to see but the clouds behind are catching me This is on the way home, just a nice road I like to take when I'm in the area.

I finaly got to break the Terra out of commuter mode and stretch its legs a bit. I did the "Glamping" thing on this trip. I dont know if you can make out the "driving on Hwy 2" on the GPS. The Terra is a fine HWY bike by the way. I came up on 1 poor couple on a big cruiser who did not realize HWY 2 was not their kind of "Highway". I told them I had been running twisty gravel about 25 miles and sugested they turn back. Lucky for them they had just got on the gravel part. Stopped by the former TWO (Two Wheels Only) now Two Wheels of Suches for lunch. I also managed to help these poor guys get this KLR back up on the road. I think they were kind of glad to see me come along. Once they said they were OK & just stuck, I had to apolgize, but I was going to take a picture of this.
I am so envious of you Ogre_fi. That corner of the globe truly is one of the best places to ride a motorcycle in the whole world. I've only seen it all too briefly from the sealed roads, but I would love to get back there some day and just spend a whole holiday in that region.
Yes it is. Goes in for a little ways, gets rough in spots. No idea how far back it goes, I was by my self with no tools so I didn't go too far.
Another day, another ride. This time, east of Melbourne. I rode about 80km east to Warburton, then into the Yarra State forest. I expected it to be a bit muddy here, because last night there was a lot of rain but I was quite surprised. The roads through here were hard and flat and almost as good as bitumen in places. It rained for a few minutes but I probably rode a loop that took me an hour and a half http://goo.gl/maps/9eUxr Then I rode up Mount Donna Buang. This is a 17km winding sealed road to the top. About 1km from the top there is an unsealed road which runs down the other side of the mountain to where I wanted to go. I took a punt that the road would be opened due to the snow season being over.. NO luck. 17km back down the way I came and then the long way around. A bit later on, closer to home, looking back at the direction I'd come from
Another day, another ride. I have this week off work. I had intended to go away camping but the weather here has been so crap and so unpredictable i've just been checking the forecast each day and playing it by year. Today I decided to head up to Woods Point. A small town with only a pub and a shop/petrol station and maybe a couple of dozen houses and a population somewhere south of 100. Plenty of forest roads and tracks around there so the pub and general store get holiday and weekend business from bike riders and 4wders. Woods point is also quite unique in the state of Victoria, being probably the only town which can only be accessed from any direction by 50km or more of dirt and gravel roads. http://goo.gl/maps/3cjjv I left home about 10am. It's a 160km trip to Woods point, about 100km bitumen and then 60km of dirt. Perfect distance as I often get a range of almost exactly 320km per tank. Started out with the Black spur. A favourite road for motorcyclists here. About 20km of winding road through the mountains ... and more of the Mountain Ash gum trees. The Woods point road for most part is a logging roads, so well maintained and plenty of room Out in the middle of nowhere are a couple of km of sealed road, almost at random. The yellow wattyl flowers catch the sun. Another entry in the bikes with altitude signs ... About 8km before Woods Point I come across a road block. A tree is down and it has taken another tree down with it. Someone has reached the tree down before me. She spotted a 4WD track off into the bush beside the road and attempted to use that to get around the tree.. but all she got was her car beached at the first hurdle. Doesn't look that bad, but the front right and rear left are both off the ground. Her 4WD skills rival my dirt bike riding skills. Her phone had no service but fortunately I was able to get a call through. She called her husband to come rescue her, and to get a road crew to remove the tree. I headed up the 4WD track over the hill to avoid the downed tree. Into town and a feed and a beer at the pub. I love this old petrol station in town Most of the road north was like this and this After I hit the bitumen again the rain hit and it was a wet ride for the last 150km back home again. Fantastic day out on the bike. I've never enjoyed a motorcycle so much.
ogre you said you come close to where I live but I need to go where you are. A lot more interested rides. I have no mountains and bridges are just going over I-95. LOL Now if you had a Mud Buggy or Truck then my area would be better.
I am still from the Florida Panhandle. I just have been up in North Georgia doing some training for the past week. I wont want to ride when I get back. This place has spoiled me.
I was thinking maybe you went up in Alabama for the ride. Yeah I have a good friend that lives in Buford Georgia that is trying to get me to always come up. Maybe I should take a few days and go up there. I was looking for good trails and other than fire roads and one road that no one knows about that's about it. If you liked the beach it would be ok. Although living by the beach I will not bring my bike close.
