Looking good, We have 6" of snow yesterday and more expected tomorrow. Roads and trails here suck right now.
Ya this has been a winter for the records. Barely any snow her in the Sierras and in the West, but the East seems to be getting plenty.
On the way to Cloudland Canyon in North Georgia we found ourselves riding out of what seemed to be the apocalypse! The sun was setting the sky on fire which was darkened by a controlled burn, pretty wicked sight in the rear view mirror.
With the temp nearing 40ºC this river crossing was too good to pass up, I just had too ditch the riding gear & get wet. South Eastern OZ has been bloody hot lately!
Good pic. I don't blame you cooling off. In Melbourne we have on average 1.3 days over 40c (104f) each year based on the records for the past 150 or so years. Yesterday was our 8th day over 40 so far this summer. It's been so hot I've barely even looked at the Terra.
It's snowing right now and Strada tires aren 't the best for 6 inches of snow....a fair amount of pushing with my feet on the uphill stuff....but it was fun for a snowy Saturday night!
The noise you heard at the beginning was a hair dryer. It was blowing on part of the FJR left of frame trying to dry out a little project I'm working on. It would have had the same traction as the Strada, but would have made a much bigger thump when it would have inevitably fallen over.
Took a day trip to Savannah, Ga then took backroads to HHI South Carolina. We found an abandoned fishery in the outskirts of Savannah.
Coffee, I know that your FAQ says: Approved sites (for video): Dailymotion;Facebook; Liveleak; Metacafe; Vimeo; YouTube. Why not smug mug
Here's a few pics from my maiden voyage on my Terra. I flew from NC to MA and picked up this bike that was a demo. Thankfully it had already had the first 1K service. I spent about 7 days riding all through New England (MA, VT, NH, RI, ME) and even crossed into Canada before heading back to NC. A total of about 2300 miles with aprox. 800 on dirt. Sadly I didn't take very many pics but here's a few. Covered bridge along the Puppy Dog trail in rural VT. Not much here but it was just off my route. Camp for the night. Somewhere in NH. Satan seemed to be the theme of the ride. Just after crossing into Canada.
Last weekend was a long weekend for us. It was full-on riding with a mix of the good, the bad & the ugly as I went down south to ride around my mate's "backyard". The good... riding was great. Through the forests and over the sand dunes to the sea and back again. Tight and fast as well as slow & overgrown tracks were ridden and new tracks were found. The bad... kangaroos were out in force. One hopped over my mate's bike as we were going along a tight track. That is unusual. Later they reverted to usual form and one kangaroo wiped him out from a side-on hit. Now my mate has great eyesight. He can spot anything ages before I can. As he was falling after being hit by the roo, he saw that he was going to fall directly on a dugite snake that was sunning itself on the track. Thinking as he was falling, he managed to stick out an elbow and turn slightly so that the snake finished up under his armpit area untouched. The snake must have been pretty relaxed though, because it just slid away as he fell on top of it without trying to take a bite. Maybe this is still some of 'the good' because I'm sure I would have fallen on the snake. The ugly... Due to an act of my own stupidity I smashed my headlight, instrument cluster & some cable connectors. It doesn't look too bad visually but these are pricey items so it's an insurance claim for me. The ever reliable DR650 my mate was riding - ran out of fuel, had idling issues and to cap it off, late on Sunday afternoon died in the bush, miles from home. Now that was an interesting ride home. It's very dark, the roos are out & no low-beam once we hit the blacktop. Mate riding pillion & every time an oncoming car came I covered the headlight with my hand to stop blinding the traffic (not sure I needed to, but I'd hate to cause an accident). I ended up dropping my mate at the nearest town where he waited for me, in the pub, to come back with a rescue vehicle and trailer. Going slowly the rescue vehicle barely made it home, with the low fuel light on & no petrol stations open in any of the towns in the area. Just a bit more stress to finish a very long day. Can't wait to do it all again!!!
That was quite the adventure. Beautiful country you live it. We still have ice on the roads here in NW Arkansas. Supposed to be 70* F here on Saturday though. Can't wait!
