Went to the Victorian high country a few weeks back, mainly on the bitumen but also found a few dirt roads that my buddy's SV650 could handle. Was a bit strange visiting the ski fields when there was no snow
Nice pictures and an even nicer area to ride in ! Dirt roads are far and between here and most have no legal access.
Great to see other Terras around in Australia. I was at Mt Tarrengower near Maldon for the Australian round of the 2014 World Trials Championship a few weeks ago and saw 3 different Terras in the carpark. (not including mine... I took my car... oh the shame). In fact I was there early on the Sunday morning and at that time 2 out of the 3 bikes in the carpark were Terras.
Did a little exploring today around Peavine Peak. I just can't believe we have fresh snow and it is almost May.
Here's a few random ones from the last month or so: I ran across this by surprise yesterday. The Army's Special Forces uses this as a training area but some parts are open to the public: Every source (maps, my GPS, etc) I checked showed this road going all the way through and the is named simply Jeep Trail. Sadly it has been closed for good. View from Old NC 105 in Pisgah National Forest: Look closely at the display. There was something very satisfying turning 10,000 miles on gravel: Just over the tip of that rock is a 1000 foot (330 meters) vertical drop down to I-40 and the Pigeon River. Located in Great Smokey Mountains National park on the NC/TN border:
Couple of picture from my last ride up through the sheep mountains north of Las Vegas. Nice little 60 mile trail or so.
Nice area ! I'm just sooo jealous of all these areas some of you people have close at hand. I have to drive to Spain first for that sort of terain !
Just bought the Terra yesterday and had to find the closest place to play a little bit today. This is outside of an old lime quarry in Ohio
Congrats on snagging one of the last ones. There are a few things to work out, especially the air box issue but overall I couldn't be happier.
Thanks, I am so glad I snagged it to. I feel this is like the best kept secret in the D/S world. I had a KLR for 5 years and a DR350 for a short time. This feels like they had a love child and added better brakes and suspension and doubled the power.
Don't blame us that its a secret. All the rest of us TR owners have been telling everyone who will listen
Met up with Ace today and went for a short ride around Tucson. Boy have I got a learning to do. LOL. Photo op, didn't think to take one on the dirt/rocks. I was huffing too much. I'm a way noobie dirt rider, well that and the other thing.
Wife and I took our bikes out for a weekend ride through northern Victoria, Australia. a bit of a detour through a farmer's paddock Stopped to check out a gold rush era town took some tracks through a national park stayed on the correct side of the fence warning of live firing, bombing and laser hazards..
A day spent on the Sunshine Coast. A short ferry ride north of vancouver. Sechelt Inlet One of many many creek crossings on the Dakota FSR. The KLR in the picture has over 104k on the odometer and keeps on going. Action shot
NEV... could you tell me about your front tyre??. i have to change mine (17000km) and I still thinking about it.. what about it works on dirt tracks?.
Nev, Is that Myrtleford with the leaves? Looks like a great trip. Planning to be that way early spring
The sun decided to show its face today so took the Strada out for a run up to Licola in the Gippsland region. 250 kilometres of twisty tar roads and a friend on a Triumph 650 triple to try and keep up with! This is my first bike - I am still on my learners and I am no expert but I was very impressed with how it went today, great handling and smiles all round. Views down one of many valleys. Stopped for a stretch, see my Strada does go off road!
The front tyre is a Metzeler Karoo 2 Traveler. It is the most agressive tyre I have ever had on a bike. Didn't want to turn for the first 100-200km but after that felt as good as the Sahara on the bitumen (just need to take it a bit easier around wet corners). On the dirt my confidence is much improved with this tyre, and the grip on loose or wet dirt is much improved over the Sahara. I changed the front Sahara at 5400km, and this tyre has already done 6000km and still a bit of life left in it. A bit further west. Tatura, near Shepparton. Only 170km from home but somewhere i"ve never been. On the other hand, Myrtleford is almost twice as far from my home and I have almost worn a groove in the road between my house and there, with so many trips out that way in the past decade.
