I don't see mine in there either? I filed the complaint at least a year ago. Edit...there I am, Fayetteville
I just checked the site again and my complaint is not on there. I checked my email and they received it (#10788508) but it has to be reviewed by NHTSA technical staff THEN entered into the database. FYI.
I just got off the phone with Kevin @ https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/VehicleComplaint/index.xhtml asking if anything has been done yet. I asked to be allowed to speak with one of the engineers who are supposedly looking into this problem, he said no unless they have a question for you. Told him about AU and CA recalls. Need more people to call. What's up in EU?
yes the more people that bug em the better! NTSHL phone number is: 1-888-327-4237, or you can click on this link to File a Vehicle Safety Complaint at https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/VehicleComplaint/ If you do the 5 step form you will still be contacted, I think the direct phone conversation is best because it's recorded and a case file number is issued for each call.
I own a TR650 Strada. I love it! The build, materials, looks are all great. I receive compliments all the time from all age groups. (have new seat (ouch on old one), wish it had a 6th and the forks SUCK!!) Did 5,000 miles from Mexican boarder to Eureka, CA and I mean everything in-between. Could have died multiple times while turning around on dirt roads with a 1,000ft+ drop on the Lost Coast and in Big Sur. Also, taking-off from the front of the line on Wilshire, Santa Monica or Sunset at 4:30pm on a Friday afternoon could be lethal. Literally looking backward, when my engine died, is the only action that prevented my rush hour, involuntary cremation. (I road a R100GS and a XR600R all over the desert and cities and neither bike stopped once unless I was at fault. NOT ONCE!!, warm-ups excluded!) The only time a bike of mine died unexpectedly was during a road race when my friend road up next to me and flicked my kill switch while under power and entering a turn. Yes, I could have crashed. He thought it was funny, and I was confused. Why! So, anyway, that's what my TR is doing to me now. It's happened over one-hundred times and my confidence level is dropping on this machine. I certainly do not want to die due to a mechanical/electrical defect after so many years of getting it right in completion and on the track. BRIGHT IDEAS!? - Why doesn't KTM do a great and CORRECT re-map and then do a through-the-mail exchange? Also, guys at the track were re-mapping ECU's, with their laptops, almost twenty years ago. Isn't there a pigtail interface for direct re-mapping. Any encryption would have to be released at this point! I feel better now! Thanks!! One TR nut, Garneau Weld
Garneau, welcome to the cafe. Sounds like an epic adventure of sorts. But as you clearly stated, every outing can be conceived as an adventure where the stalling issue is concerned. You will find plenty of well documented information here to support the concerns and pro activity of resolving the 'death stall'. I would seriously encourage you to petition the NHTSA clearly outlining your experiences with these concerns, as many members have done so. Due to such actions a recall of the TR's has been issued for Canada. We can only hope America will follow suit. To date the most satisfactory results have been outlined in the thread 'Silver Bullet'. Where the upgrade to Pulstar plugs and larger injector seem to have cured the ill's of the above characteristics. But we are now finding that BMW dealerships, where willing. Have the capability to revise to latest firmware. The latest firmware also targets the lean stall issue. Like many of us here, we know we have an excellent platform of potential in the TR. The tricky part is navigating the support, or lack thereof to obtain optimum performance. For one, i believe it will be a worthwhile investment of energy in the end. You might also look into GS-911 also documented in these threads as it's development includes TR capability.
