You are not being a jerk at all Tessier and I'm a pretty mellow fellow so I would not have taken it wrong. This is great advise and the "totaled" issue is being worked on as we speak. There is a new bike on its way to the dealer with my name on it already. This does not mean it is a done deal at all, but preparations are being made. I went through this before and all went well, so I will remain calm for now. You are right about the parts issue, but what the hurdle is now is they don't even have fixed prices for them. Getting a repair estimate is almost impossible immediately. Me and the other guy are insured by the same company and the bike is not owned by the bank, so this should go smooth after we can get the numbers. We are all 99 percent sure the bike is totaled, there just has to be a document that says so. It will be very disappointed if not, but we will see. I should make it clear that I have full confidence in my dealer (Big D Motorsports). If they say it can be fixed, then I will stand by them. They don't want to deal with a lemon in the future any more than I do. Big D (Dan) takes the relationship with his customers very seriously and he has kept me in the loop. He calls me weather the news is good or bad and tells me what is going on and why.
Do you think Kelly's new skidplate may have helped? http://www.cafehusky.com/threads/tr650-skid-plate-wow.28125/#post-252683
I'm guessing no. Seems the impact was on the swingarm and probably cracked the case where it goes through. thanks for the thought though.
This is the first thought that went through my head that day when I looked down and saw the damage to the brake pedal and master cylinder. I think Motosportz is being modest. He has developed a fine product and the way he designed it will no doubt add extra support to the bottom rear of the frame. The sideways torque applied at the time of the accident may well have been reduced. Even though the torque was applied to the cases directly, it may have been the extra 2% of strength I needed at the frame to hold the cases together. The cases are not cracked that we can see, but they are stressed enough to cause a leak at the gaskets. As our bikes get older and some people reduce the insurance coverage on their bikes, this product may save you significant labor and cost. We survived this accident with a little luck and little extra support may have saved my motor. All of us know the Motosportz skid plate is going to save us from 90% of foreseen underside hits, but this may account for the 10% of unforeseen hits it saves us from.
Yes, it would have helped with the brake for sure the cases i don't know. I do believe our extremely robust skid plate is going to save a lot of motors though as those cases are so exposed and that critical oil line is shouting to get ripped of the cases and ruin the motor.
It is official, the bike is a total loss. Talked with the insurance company today and got a little frustrated. They told me the bike was only worth so much based on the average selling price of a bike that same year, make, and model in my area. They said it was an outside sorce that gives them their quotes on this sort of thing. I told them there outside source is a scam since this particular bike has only been available to the public for 3 months and I find it highly unbelievable that any of these units have been sold for said price and I need proof of their findings. I told them the exact amount it would cost me to replace it with tax and title and that I fully expect that amount. They said that should not be a problem and they would check with another outside source to verify and get back to me Wednsday or Monday due to the holiday. I also asked for a buy back quote. This guy is not helping my case at all. http://denver.craigslist.org/mcy/3398551465.html He bought this Terra and decided he was too old to ride. I don't know if it is a reasonable question to ask if he could just delete the post for a few days until we get this sorted out. I may loose a couple hundred bucks or more because of this listing, but maybe he needs the money worse than I do and old age is just his excuse. I hope age is never my excuse.
Well I finally got an opportunity to use the line. I said "How's my little sandwich maker?" She said "Sandwich maker!?...Do you want a sandwich?" That's my girl!! She read this post and got to see where I got it from. Totally blew my cover, but we got a good laugh. Thanks Chicken pot pie!
I saw that and thought it was to pricey. Once it's sold it should lose more than 200 dollars. I really see where you're coming from. Seeing as how you're not at fault, they should be giving big d a check for your brand new bike
I agree. They are only $349.46 away from the total cost out the door. I am pretty confident they will find the rest, but we will see. The bright side is now I can proceed with the farkles ordering now that I know sort of where we stand with the whole thing. Dunlap 908s are the first thing! I canceled the order after the accident, but ordered them again as soon as I got off the phone with insurance. Back to being excited instead of depressed. So Chris, just which bike is it that is going to show up under your avatar? No pressure!
Wow...I would have been, like "Uh...excuse me? What did you say, my little valve adjuster?" Glad to hear your bike is being totaled...as odd as that sounds It's the best case scenario for you and I'm glad you're back on track to having fun again. Hell, I don't even have mine yet and I miss it already!
No, no post; I just haven't gotten it yet! I've got dibs on one but apparently they're sitting in a container in NJ? I dunno...I guess I should have pulled the trigger on the first one but I wanted to see the Strada first. Meanwhile the Terra's flew out the door and now I'm sure that's the one I want. I'm just hurrying up and waiting now...
Ya, I just got that when I got out of the shower but you beat me to my edit! Oops! Hope one turns up for you soon. My dealer was suppose to get in a Strada 2 weeks ago and they still haven't seen it. This scares me a little since my new one is suppose to be here next week....maybe not
When I left my Terra at the dealership after I put the money down on it, some sap came in and offered them an extra $500 to buy my bike!
Parts of New Jersey still do not have things like electricity after hurricane Sandy... so it could be simply a weather delay as opposed to anything else going on.
It really may be the terra because I can't rent the dirt bikes at Big D's whenever I feel the need for a real dirt bike. Then I go back to the 449 because I desperately want to do ice racing, supermoto, hare scrambles, and the pikes peak hillclimb. It just keeps getting tougher lol. Tax season will tell me what to get lol
