So, did ya get your new new bike yet? Yes I said new twice... I work in the mountains quite a bit. I happen to work off of one of the "secret" windy roads that motorcycle and car magazines use for road tests near L.A. As a result I see quite a mix of slow bicycles, slower runners, slow drivers, and lots of nutty/stupid people on all kinds of motorcycles and in all types of hyped hill racers going way faster than their skills would allow. I've also seen every kind of stupid idiot with a camera you can imagine and people who are still looking at that thing they just passed while drifting into my lane. They still can't fix stupid, although I suppose there is some sort of executive order for it, but I digress. I've gotten to where I just assume there is some jackhole that's gonna drift on to my side around every blind curve.
So, I hope your new bike process and your insurance company is working out. I was wondering if I would see any Terra's during the LA-Barstow to Las Vegas ride last week. Didn't see a single one. I did see several GS1200's and a few other big big bikes powering through. I was curious if you had any time in sand or whoops and any technical mountain terrain time and how did you like it. I rode my '08 TE610 and it was handling like a champ. But I needed to stiffen up the rear 'cause I was bottoming out on the whoops. Oh, yeah...as far as calling my wife sammich maker....it's usually followed up with a foot rub. She's not all that fond of that name. She actually said she preferred being called 'sponge'. When we were 1st married back when I was in the Marine Corps, the spouses called themselves 'sponges'. Now, I have not, would not and will never even say that, nor would I recommend anyone starting that unless they both understood the joke early on in the relationship. Unless you have your foot rub technique down like Samuel L. Jackson in 'Pulp Fiction'.
No new bike yet. Big D called Husky and they said 2 weeks...that's what they said 2 weeks ago. I have finally quit holding my breath and trying to get my shop done and get all the farkles ordered up. I will have all the farkles here before the bike...crazy. This is very difficult for me as I am a typical American and when I want something...I want it now! It is a great bike, better than expected with a big demand, and I understand. Is the "secret test road" the Mulhalland Highway? I did a pacific coast tour a few years back and accidentally wound up in it. I was stuck on the 101, I think, in traffic and made a left turn thinking anything had to be better, and man was it ever! I was on my Buell Ulysses. My first view of the ocean on that trip was when I popped over into Malibu. I was looking down on what looked like an Italian villa next to the ocean...Fantastic!
All is well Chicken pot pie! The insurance money is on it's way. I negotiated a buy back and have all ready sold the "old" bike. It is on the trailer and I will deliver it tomorrow morning. I came out good on the deal and so did everyone else. State Farm was the insurance company and everything went smooth after the straight talk. I did not get a chance to ride sand or whoops, but did get technical. I posted the results in the First Dirt Ride Impressions thread here in the TR650 forum. One thing I missed though is that it does not feel heavy at all. I suppose it would be if you are not use to this style of bike. You just have to ride it differently. I also posted pics in the Out and About Terra, Strada thread. Be sure and pull up the thumb nail attachment with the Seasons Greetings lights in Cripple Creek, CO.. Wait, I will add it here too! I have already put it in a couple spots, but it is very appropriate for the time of year. Here is to you all!
Ya, but just too many slow pokes. I always find the slow pokes! I always seem to have the stretch between Cripple Creek and Victor all to myself though...zoom zoom! Side note: I was not speeding at the time of my accident.
Got the insurance check today! Going straight to Big D's and pay for the new one right after I finish my coffee. He said there is a possibility it may be here at the end of the week. He has been invoiced already. I think that means it is finally out of customs and in transit. That is also good news for everyone else waiting for their new Terra's and Strada's.
A new batch just hit the East coast. THe 2 local dealers just got in Strada's and my buddy at Toytech is getting a Terra today or tomorrow. Good luck with the new bike! I know you will have better luck this time!
I hope I have better luck this time too! You all get to tinker with your bikes and I just have to wait. It's killin me! Won't be long now though. I am curious about a few things though. I am going to guess that maybe 40 or so were sent out on the first batch and they are out running around, minus my first one and Krussell's. I am going to assume that with this latest shipment that maybe another 40 are going to hit the streets, but I don't know? Also, where do they ship to in the US? Rumor has it that this last Husky batch was held up in customs for at least a couple weeks . So they have been here for awhile. Meanwhile all the dealers are looking bad and have angry customers. I do understand and am sort of patient, but not everyone is. Why would a motorcycle shipment get held up at customs if the same manufacturer is sending the same bikes sent previously and have already been checked out on a previous shipment? Or is it someone in front holding up everyone else? I don't know how these things work.
I heard they were delayed because of the storm on the East Coast. Who knows? I've been waiting for over a month for mine to arrive out here in Western Washington. If they're showing up back east, maybe I'll get mine before the weekend! I feel bad for the dealers. This waiting thing has been torture!
I got one from that batch. I put my order in well before Halloween and had to wait until just last week when I got mine. It was a painful wait. Also, the Husky plant that makes these bikes is the 5-6 year old one here in the US...so idk if that "held in customs" bit is totally true.
It was in fact due to Sandy. They had ships anchored waiting for ports to accept them and off load cargo. Customs did not have anything to do with the bikes arriving. They did for parts. All of the accessories deliveries were pushed back to after the first of the year and was told they were held up in customs for one reason or another. The skid plate,(no thanks, mine on the way from Motosportz), the alarm and something else is currently available. (Was not anything good) Toytech actually has 2 Strada's and one Terra available on the floor.
Ya, I saw you got yours...Congrats! I am just a little confused as to why you posted a pic on the "dark side" and none here in the Out and About section? What gives Blain? And thanks for rubbing it in Toyboy! You know the truck drives right past me to get the bikes over there...fume fume cuss cuss! Oh wait, that's not true. I just saw they are in PA. I just assumed it was a Cali dealer for some reason.
Hahah "dark side." I restore vintage bikes, so I've been on ADV for years. It wasn't until I considered a Husky that I found this forum. I'll warm up eventually
It's here! It is in a box, but it is here. They said it will be done by noon tomorrow. The high here tomorrow is 43 degrees Fahrenheit. That's way rideable! It did snow here today, but it was just a dusting.
Dunno? Big D didn't say anything about it. I would assume so since it was actually suppose to be here long before my Terra. I didn't ask if he got in my black plastic either. I was too excited to worry about anything else. I considered taking off work just so I could go look at the box! It would have been built today, but It's Ryan's day off.
