Seriously man? Personal quotes like "always"... dont even know what your talking about now. I looked through my post and saw one "always"... "There are always personalities on forums." how is this a personal bash? WTF? Can we just talk about the TL? Some really good info here but buried in piles of meaningless whining about members. Ignore the people and posts you don't like and stay on subject. Please.

3 - OMG? I meant you are always using personal quotes in your responses. That itself becomes a bit personal. (Sorry, just wanted to clear that "always" part up).

I have done plenty of talk on the 5 or 6 year old subject of the TL being a problem. It's nothing new Fella's, there's something like 400 pages under this subject on the internet (TT) alone, quite a bit on other websites as well that are BMW G450X related. Years of it. Sorry you CH members haven't got it until recently (meaning the last 2 or 3 years).

I've tried to steer members to research some of these other sources of information through your browsers using Google or Bing by using the Phrase "BMW G450X Torque Limiter Failures". It will take you here to CH and a few other places as well. Again I have respect for the Truly helpful information of this Forum or I wouldn't be here and from whom it comes from.

The Kymco Torque Limiter subject even now and in the future will be kind of hard for some to get there head around. I've gone at it from every angle I could think of with my resources. Thanks for your patience and the information while we all are following along Fella's.

If it wasn't for Tinken sharing the Husky race team experience and fixes I wouldn't have even bought a Husky. Do they turn their fixes into products? Yep. Do I buy them? Yep. Do they do as advertised? Extremely well, I'm thinking about sending my suspension from the east coast to the west coast just so I know its going to be right.

Its very generous to share the knowledge and experience of a factory race team and I appreciate it.

I also appreciate the knowledge of the guys who get out to the garage and figure things out. We need it all here.

Ah, the TL. Hoping mine will have a longer life with the oil recirc kit from Zipty. :)

Yep" Ah, the TL. I hope every bodies lasts a long time too. :excuseme:

I too run an oil recirculation/ breather set up of my own design as his unfortunately won't fit the BMWs chassis anywhere near correctly or I could have helped him sell plenty of those for him as well for G450X owners. I would too. It's great for keeping the oil level up to where it needs to be, I use A ZipTy valve cover Breather, billet tapped filler plug, plumbed to a baffled breather box I made. I have no desire to build anymore anything I make anymore is a prototype. I've quit doing work for others. I also use a ZipTy Billet Oil filter cap, Evans coolant and have referred many people his way too about the Evans coolant as well. All of them were G450X owners.

There's been several times this summer riding with my buddies when there radiators were splooging over and we just got done popping up out of a sandy, muddy drainage ditch up the side of the ravine. With my buddies complaining, " its too muddy, too much sand, I'm having to fry my clutch keeping up, or my gearing is too high for this stuff. They say to me, "your not over heating because you have a fan". So while the fans still running I pull the radiator cap without any incident and tell them they should buy some Evans Coolant from ZipTy racing for that cooling problem you guys are having there.

I probably bring ZipTys name up every time I let someone look at my bike or even have a conversation related to dirt bikes.

a simple bkow by gas will not burn a solid piece of steel and Bearing. Every Combustion Engine has them.

The Lubrication holes through the TL are to small to allow a free flow of any Gasses.
Keep in mind , i had mine apart and investigated the whole thing .

Your info is very good and appreciated. I have been steered in the right direction by Tinken and ZipTy many times so I don't need to discount what they are saying and greatly appreciate the info shared through vast experience of many disassembled race engines and piles of TLs sitting in boxes. Not one motor, not one TL, piles of them raced at extreme levels. It is completely fine for people to read forums and decide what info they wish to use and what they wish to ignore. I get it that Tinken appears to talk down to people here. Having spoke to him many times on the phone I think it is more of an internet misconception as he is super helpful, funny, straight forward and extremely informational. Very few race teams, manufactures and aftermarket providers will come on forums because eventually they get pushed out or criticized till they leave. This means we all loose out on the info they could provide. The internet is a tough place, no inflection, no facial expression, no instant back and forth and people have vastly different styles of posting and levels of info. I sure don't think we would be better off without Tinken and ZipTy here. I know my bike is far better for knowing them and many of you. Do I agree with Tinken on everything? No, I think he was wrong on the BF removal, said so and removed it. All good. He does not like the JD jetting tuner, I do, all good with me. I use what info works for me. I greatly respect their info and experience but also understand I am not a pro level racer in SoCal with a race shop at my disposal. It is what it is.

Again, can we please just talk about the subject and agree to disagree on things and realize all info is good and we are free to choose what info is useful for each of us in our own world. Please.

since the BF removal , there is a crack in it.
We were written down with many super technical descriptions here why it will not work

    Funny it worked.

With the TL issue, there is one thing missing here from the other very informative side. Which is the Detailed pictures and how the NEW DESIGN looks or will do.
People are left with a picture of a TL in a BOX. And i dont think every single bike got a modified TL installed now.
Dont forget , these bikes are also much liked by people who do not UNDERSTAND one word english. People we wont even find on this forum.
And TL are made to fail. BMW HVA got them and supply 200-240NM ones. Just simply how they turn out at the manufacturer. Minimum reading for releasing is 200NM.
In the BMW Parts diagram, we can order one extra shim and get more out of it. I can live with the fast i might have to replace every now and then.

Here on CH it seems everything is about the special Radiator fluid. Anything else will just not good enough. Hello other People race too. Here in AUS no one knows the Zipty racing team. I am a husky fan and cant find much info.
Same with Oil... it all has to be that certain oil.... other brands are just not as good.
Then we go to the Breather. I have looked at the Shaft from the breather. It is hard to get blow by gasses through that..,,,, maybe a HD MECHANIC DEGREE is not enough to judge that.

It is a "Cost reduction " solution to run a breather without any Catch/Condenser solution either integrated in Frame or as a add on , on the bike....
In most Situations the with 900ml Oil the breather works ok.

The Breather we find on Hermunenes Bike will and worked very good. And Oil will flow back down to the breather hole.
We got a DEALER here in AUstralia (R&D Husky) he got shitloads of them 449's running and some with more then 12000km without rebuilding and and only 1 TL. NO breathers installed at all.

It started all here by someone talking everybody else's Solutions and fixes in to the Ground. Yes i said that before. Some good fixes for the bikes from there , and i think many and most of us to appreciate that. But other people know shit too and do not deserve to get talked down , called idiot or other.

I am not alone with this here as i can see when i go through that forum.... some pages just read like SALES Pitches .

I run JOHN DEERE coolant in my bike and went out with temperature Gauge to measure on the Trail , up hills and other conditions to see if i am wrong. But believe it or not. Even John Deere coolant works fine. Boiling point is way higher then any other manufacturer and my REUSED Head Gasket is still in there.

There are people here who don't even want to write about their own fixes , just because they cant be fuk'd with all the thing they have to argue with, coming from one side here. Or at least did in the past.

I am a service Manager for JD products and every now and then i get critics myself and i have to suck it up and get them sorted and accept the fact that other people know things too.

Not many people here who really have KYMCO tech info brought up here besides electronic fixes. I will Continue doing so and share my DETAILED information as good as i can in the time i am willing to spend on....

I will keep my comments to the facts in the future...

If you don't like someones info, ignore it. Simple. You, Timmy and Tinken have all provided excellent info on this subject regardless of the delivery. Thats great and what the forum is for IMHO. All the crap does nothing but pollute a good thread. This will all end in good people taking their toys and going home and we all loose. XF coolant? Dont buy it if you dont like it. It for sure is not a necessity nor was ever advertised to decrease temps but I like it a lot for several reasons so I will run it. My choice. New TL design, he is not obligated to discuss or explain. Fine with me. If he does design and build one I may or may not buy one. Its up to me. I'll decide if it makes sense for my bike and me at that time. Dont know or like the ZipTy team or understand them, 100% fine, don't support them. Your degree tells you the breather is not worth a crap, don't buy it. Got your own design, use it. I don't use the catch can. Dont want the complexity and don't find it necessary for my situation. I do run the breather relocator and rerouted hose setup and believe it helps even though you tell me I'm wrong. My choice. I agree, seems like to much sales pitch on XF and earth-x etc. Does not bother me at all. Takes a millisecond to read right past it. Takes hours of posting to keep bringing it up.

Agree... I did it anyway and liked it. My choice and a good one. Fixed my dead throttle issue which was my reason for giving it a try. Even started a poll on that to get feedback from others and a feeling for its usefulness.

There is no obligation for him to post anything detailed or not.

True I think he could be more tactful, as could I and many others at times.

Probably true but at the same time we are here discussing for Tinken pages and bashing him. Thats acceptable?

I for one am very thankful for the information you have provided and said so many times. Your clutch info is also very much of interest to me and useful and have been following that. Timmy experience with TLs is good as well. Dangermouses info on the BF and that whole write up was excellent. MUCH appreciated and the BF removal was great for me and my dead throttle issue. Tinkens Earth-x, XF, and many others posts have been very beneficial to me. He even badgered me into sending suspension off when I have a local guy that does it for nearly free, best thing i ever did, completely transformed my bike. He relentlessly badgered me into buying an exhaust system which I have always laughed at people for doing. Know what, freaking works great, bike never ran better. That Landofmotards guy brings nothing to the table but is funny so I will tolerate him :D

SO.... maybe we can get back to hard facts and good info? Maybe we all stay here and contribute and leave it up to the individual to decide what they want to learn from each post? Maybe Tinken will back off on the continuous sales pitch and talk in less absolute terms yet still participate? Maybe we can all step back a step, cool off and get back to making our bikes better? Maybe? Please.

Question 9880sts: What were the adjustments that you made to your clutch?[/quote]

I am using the Midwest Mountain Clutch lever , which makes the clutch feel very light already compared to STOCK lever. But lately it felt very soft and i was missing the hook up once released.
So i pulled the Clutch out and had a closer look at it, and realized that the pressure plate only preloaded with max 1mm. (picture before)

Then i checked the Service / Repair Manual and found the adjustment procedure. My Clutch pack was just above 30mm and that was just measured with a vernier .

i ride mostly ST up and downhill , 40-50km in 5-6hrs. So the clutch is constantly slipping as i got that thing always pulled slightly especially on slow up hills.

Some people just don't like being told what to do Kelly. By you or anyone else. What right do you have to tell us that, whether its for the good of the forum or not in your personal opinion. Now just chill out and hear me out.

What you may perceive as doing good for the forum may actually be bad and in it self may be enough cause to run many of us off and how is that acceptable?? This use of personal quotes seems to be continuing. This is personal bashing to us and attacks plain and simple. There is no obligation for you to keep doing this either.

We have a right to our opinions and to post what ever we like and to ignore whomever we want also, let us make that decision by ourselves please. We are capable of doing so.

You are telling us to continue providing our info in your own words but you will cause us to stop, by your own actions. With this kind of welcome why would anyone want to stay. As you pick apart line for line each post. This keeps on happening and is at this point predicted and expected when someone posts anything you personally don't like. Its getting way worse. Think about it. I am also guilty of trying to get in the last word but I am doing this in the most friendly way as I can at this point here and now.

I have respect for your experience too and information. Sure you have close to 20,000 posts and nearly 10,000 likes since 2008.. Some of us actually have a higher " Liked Percentage" of massages and posts than that. So more people may appreciate our contributions than you may think and I'm speaking for several of us. Maybe we should all step back, Yes. Including you. Now that's a friendly suggestion. Maybe we should all re-evaluate the way we go about things in our own ways. We all have a different approach but as you said, there all kinds of personalities on any forum. I know all of us mean well but we don't need an in house volunteer policeman. If this gets dissected and quoted I will likely drift off into the proverbial ether but that would be too easy. I have predicted worse.

"Personal Messages" back and forth will be the only option for us to communicate amongst each other if this activity doesn't stop with the personal Quotes being referenced and the Dissecting of all the posts. This will be the only way for us to avoid the dissecting and interference.....

Trust me. It has already begun. Maybe this should have been a PM itself. PMs can be perceived as personal attacks also. That's not my intension at all.

    Enjoy the day!

I have followed this thread and appreciate all the constructive input provided by those more knowledgeable than me on such matters. I'm no engineer, but do know how to spin a wrench and try to do as much work on my bikes as possible. I do have a few TL questions that I hope, if answered succinctly, could really help us all out:

    1. Post 148 shows that we have the option of buying TL parts from either Husky or BMW suppliers: is this correct?
    2. The BMW list shows part #1 and part #3, which seem to be the TL parts in question: is this correct?
    3. My understanding is that BMW part #1 could be used as a shim to tighten up a slipping TL: is this correct? How would it be done?
    4. My understanding is that BMW part #3 could be used to rebuild or replace a compromised TL: is this correct? How would it be done?
    5. Has anyone's work/testing shown the best approach to dealing with a compromised TL, either shim, rebuild, or replace? How would it be done?
    6. What are the specific costs associated with any of these options?

Setting aside the interpersonal challenges dispersed within this thread, I find the topic and possible solutions to be of great interest, as an owner of the bike in question. I am not a wealthy man who can replace a luxury like a dirt bike often or pay someone else to do a job that I can do myself, so the idea that I can find good information on how to purchase and/or maintain parts subject to wear and tear is extremely important to me, whether it comes from a fellow hobbyist or dealer/vendor.

Increasing the torque resistance on the stock TL will transfer a dangerous level of force to your transmission. And it WILL cost you lots of $$ if that fails. The price of TL is not much compared to that. And any good mechanic knows never to use a cheater bar with a torque wrench. The accuracy is adversely affected. So the sheared inner spine torque limit test, broken at 350NM will have to be retested more than once.

You have missed the point here.
The repair Helmut has detailed was not to make massive increases, but to get a used, repairable limiter back to spec, or just over.
The broken plates were done as a test on the old parts to see how far they would go.
The fact that BMW make the parts available is proof they are repairable if caught early or pre-empted.
    No danger to anything there!!

    1- is the repair kit.
    3- is the shim pack.

As for costs, the prices are the on the list
You will need access to the special torque test tool, a friendly BMW or Husky dealer maybe or purchase one.
If you need to get a dealer to do it, it would likely be cheaper to just buy the new part as labour will add up.
