You might try Krylon Fusion. It's a plastic paint that is like a dye. Goes right into the plastic. I painted the inside back of an acrylic marine aquarium a year ago and the stuff is impervious to everything. Except probably gas.
Kool story Bro!! Now you can return it and get a JD tuner.. I got the Ibeat download from dealer.. new.. The jd tuner is what you want to get.. PERIOD!!
iBeat is a usefull tool to have if you own a Husky 4T that uses it. You need it to reset your TPS. To check fail codes if needed. Check actual motor hours (dash shows hours key is on, not motor running, they do differ). Adjust fueling, etc. iBeat and a EFI tuner both do things the other one cant. I say keep iBeat even if you have a EFI tuner of any brand. 4 Husky 4T's here, and iBeat, no tuners. I am keeping mine.
I will give it a go, and then decide. Thanks for all the heads up and opinons, it`s all good intel in the end. Finn
My package from Uptite Husky came in a couple of days ago. Here's what it included: Aluminum Throttle Tube with bearings both ends, for barkbusters. Since I have HDB I had to cut .34" off the bar due to the end configuration of the tube. I used a sleeve as a guide for my hack saw and it worked great. Installed. Shifter Mod. It's a sleeve that fits behind the shift lever to account for slop in the shift rod (as it wears a bit) and keeps the lever from getting into the case. Installed. Spare Counter Shaft Sprockets. I bought 16 and 14 T in George's recommended brand. George swears that the bike is geared too low, and it may be for the CA desert aces, but I plan on installing a 45 T rear and the 16 will put me to stock gearing if needed, and the 14 will give me more control for the tight and steep stuff. Install as needed. Uptite Skid Plate. A work of art! Will install when the bike is off of it's blocks. Suspension is at LT Racing now. Next up: George's Uptite Exhaust! Have to wait a few weeks on that, but dropping 20 pounds is just too tempting to try and save money. I love the red tip on the Uptite, too.
Would like to see pics of the shifter mod and his exhaust solution when you get a chance. I've heard good things about the throttle tube, but wasn't sure how it would work with the HDB. Thanks for the update!
Check out this thread http://www.thumpertalk.com/forum/archive/index.php/t-611365.html to see how someone dyed their tank. It looks factory! A bit of hassle, but it looks like it works. I'm interested in painting the bottom of a red Safari tank black to simulate the factory colors and thought of possibly dyeing part of the tank, but that's probably not possible. Krylon Fusion sounds interesting and might be worth a test on a scrap piece of plastic.
Here are the pics you asked for. Note that the flange on the throttle tube is a bit too close to the cable housing for the grip to slide over the flange as on the stock throttle tube. I don't see a problem leaving it as shown in the pic. The flange on Uptite's tube should be a little farther from the cable drum, but otherwise, the new tube is much nicer than stock. It has "bearings" inside the tube on both ends that eliminate the slop in the stock plastic tube. I like it!
Just got an Uptite billet throttle tube for $20 (MSRP is like 70) because they knurling in the center was fubar, which of course isn't a functional issue. Just installed it tonight it reduced the idle-WOT twist by about a third, which is great for quick roll-on. It's also a lot smoother with less slop because of the snug fit of the delrin bearings. I'll take it out this week and see how the response is.
As the rolling stones would say: Paint it Black! Now waiting for my new Metzeler M5 tires.. 2 months after my accident and I can't wait to ride my beaty again
I contacted Pro Moto Billet today and sent my tail rack drawing to them. It's larger than what is offered now for the 610, but tidier than the tube type racks. I have no idea whether their R&D dept will be interested in making something like this but we will see. I would like something that is located directly above the Wolfman rack loops and provides wide support for a duffel. It will be level with the seat. Fingers crossed.
My white Safari is in my local UPS truck right now and I'll have it today. I REALLY want to find a way to make the bottom part of the tank black and intend to go to my local plastic fabricator for some scraps of PE plastid for experimentation purposes. I intend to try the Krylon and black die. what I'm thinking of is coating one side and then finding a way to contain gasoline on the other, then let them set for a few weeks to see what happens. The hard part with the die is leaving the top white. Maybe some fineline masking tape would prevent the die solution from migrating. Like I said, it's going to be an experiment. What ever happens will take place before the tank is mounted and while it is still clean. Failure on the final product could get ugly!
I just don't get why in the heck the 630 does not come with black wheels, I would give anything to have black wheels on my TE Sethro
I picked up another Fuzeblock FZ1, I've put them on a number of bikes, from FJR to dualsported XR650R & XR628. I find their compact size and the built-in relay make them ideal for a bike without tons of space to mount a fuse block. The FZ1 lets you run things switched or unswitched by where you place the mini-spade fuse. I Posi-tap'd the relay lead into the switched hot for the 5w running light in the headlight housing.
